@theatheistexperience lets say a child doesn't have parents (or any authority figure in their life) God forbid? Do you think that the child would have any problem whatsoever in doing something immoral? Its the same thing with adults. Only difference is that adults are not as much controlled by their parents as children are. So they have to realize that they still have to answer to a higher power. Im not in any way saying that children don't and/or shouldn't believe in God, God forbid.

I heard there's this awesome FAIRYTALE book .. you know the one, where he does a bunch of mystical bullshit. the God you believe in is morally corrupt.evil.
GH is not a testable hypotheis. It is a play on words to define an entity in such a manner so that it cannot be tested, ever. Every time there is a test for a particular form of it, the entity is re-defined beyond the scope of the tests. While GH can be a source of solace, and for the less mature a way of guiding their lives, the existing versions are not above reproach. New Age spiritualists are coming up with better definitions but these too are not based on any evidence. It's philosophy.
If Evoluton is "proven wrong", having been "proven right" earlier, it would indeed be awkward. Is that not a tautology? And why would that automatically mean that the God Hypothesis (GH) is correct? It is a false dichotomy. For GH to be correct, to rise to the level of a "scientific theory", it too would require evidence. I posit that I created the universe before being born so that I could enjoy it. I know because I did it. Now if Evolution is proven wrong, is my hypothesis accurate? Huh!
That guy is so confused about Evolution. "Bad Mutation" e.g. cancer cells kills the organism or differentially is less likely to be passed on. "Good Mutation" is good because the existing competitive forces/environment somehow favor that mutation. We can say it is a good mutation usually after the fact i.e. did it favor the survivavbility of the organism. From our existing point of view it appears that all the mutations were good for them to get here. Not the case at all.
@Webofscience To be honest, I goto a black barbers in London. Today, other customer starts preaching about how important Christ is today & the barber's agreeing with him. I didn't don't want the convo to come to me - I KNOW me declaring im an atheist will not go down well.
@saintstrawman You just replied to yourself retard, see this is why you cant go around calling people brainwashed or stupid. You cant even handle making comments let alone think rationally. I pity your weak mind.
@TheAtheistExperience Criss Angel himself says that he has no psychic powers or magic abilities. He is starting to go the way of James Randi in that sense, calling out psychics who claim to have legitimate powers.
You know this all boils down to the god of the gaps argument, if you say that because science can't prove it or hasn't figured it out yet it means we should insert a magical reason in there instead, you are on a slippery slope....if you want to think that way then god is getting smaller and smaller as science (the real way to determine truth about our world) constantly finds the answers through trial and error testing and peer review. Evolution didn't wait for us to figure it out, it was still..
This Daniel guy reminds me a lot of myself when I was still a believer (even down to the tremble in his voice). Hopefully he continues his questions and doesn't stop learning. He sounds like a potential OTDer.
I second what the man said who was ostracized by his family and work for admitting his atheism. Be very careful, people, about who you admit your atheism to. People have lost inheritances, jobs and financial advantages of all kinds because of their indiscriminate honesty, in my opinion, a very foolish move.
The guy they talked to about the giraffe is stupid or a troll. Him insisting that if the spinal cord is inside its protected its complete BS.
He needs to lookup spinal embolisms. Organisms do indeed get their spinal nerves damaged from accident & blood clots. That "daniel" keeps trying to talk over the top of the panel, ignoring their objections screams that "daniel" is not interested in truth at all.
@kommissarw OMFG Daniel "I wanna say one last thing...if evolution is wrong, then their is basically no other prudent explanation at this time other than a God." After sniping at evolution from the sidelines with dubious logic, this is where this little fuck was leading too.
Actually, a cable company going out of their way to give you the least efficient length of cable does have ill effects on your cable service. The longer a cable is, the more degraded and/or slow the end feed becomes when it finally shows up as your television show or your internet connection. This is quite similar to, and possibly even more pronounced, the degradation one would expect to see in an unnecessarily 13 foot long brain to head nerve.
@TUSAnathema I thought the same thing, no, it doesnt function the same way as anybody running wire should know
Not that I expect Matt or the other guy to have done so. Hard to think of everything on the spot in these discussions, but then the moment the caller said hes not trying to trick them, thats when it seemed obvious it was what he was trying to do
Say hes genuinely curious then troll them by refusing to get the simple argument they are making about intelligent decisions
@TUSAnathema Another way to see it, which isnt too significant to us, but is real.
Length can be of such importance that it affects, I forget what they are called, but you may know the story of people who stock trade and put their servers on the same street as the stock exchange to beat all other people to the bets by milliseconds and affect prices in their favor.
Every milisecond counts for them, so distance counts because light is fast, it doesnt teleport.
@saintstrawman LOL.. RELIGION lays claim to MANY more atrocities and violations of morality and compassion.. besides, I'm sure you're a CHRISTIAN, taught by "the Master" to love, respect, protect ALL people, why is it then that I have found "Christians" to be the most Bigoted, Judgmental, Hateful and Vengeful group around. THEISTS are far more dangerous, when it comes "opinions equaling objective reality" each theist BELIEVES that his will is God's will.. no matter how appalling the deed.
@saintstrawman Something can be said to be true if it corresponds to the way things actually are. As such, your comment, "truth doesn't exist in the mind of the atheist. it's all relative to their imagination", simply isn't true.
I believe some people reach a point in their cognitive development where they subconciously realize the elaborate truth has becomes far too enigmatic for them to comprehend. Its far more effecient to reject the lot of societies conventional notions and conditions and actually deprive onesself from the underlying desires that one instinctivly possesses. This is the biological mechanism that aims to make sense of their existence. It is however misleading and results in social arrogance.
Why the heck to americans cling to the intelligent design idea. It is bunkim. It is rubbish. It has been refuted on every point ID has raised. ID is based on falsehoods. It will never be correct. Let it go.
The caller has a point: you need to specify what you think of as good design in order to show that something is poorly designed, like the giraffe neck. Something to think about is what the defining characteristics of a giraffe are. If you take the extremely long nerve as a defining characteristic of a giraffe, then the nerve must be long in a well-designed giraffe. However, it seems to make sense to call a design "better" if it achieves the design goals while using less resources.
Jesus is the way the truth and the light. You can only expierence if you have been born again. You can do it by repenting and asking him to help you. Believe god raised him from the dead and confess it out loud.
@13coltfox95 him? certainly the deity you refer to, jesus, is a hermaphrodite, or did you hear a male voice speaking in your subconcious? don t let those voices command you to hurt anyone, k.
I think that Russell's wrong about South Park portaying Mormons as "the one religion that got it right".
I distinctly recall an episode of South Park called "All about the Mormons", in which the beliefs and history of Mormonism are told bluntly, and with appropriate ridicule.
Although the magic Mormon underwear weren't mentioned.
@SinnFein4ever He was referring to another ep that showed the mormons in Heaven. I think Satan was going to visit God, and they tried to get him to stop and play board games or something.
@SinnFein4ever I think it is in the movie that Kenny is in hell and someone asks what religion got it right. The demon checks a paper and says oh the mormons got it right and everyone sighs.
First caller can't speak outside of his prepared talking points. He makes his point, they agree and riff on the idea, he agrees with them then reiterates his point, same words even, as if it had not already been made. You're on an international call-in chat show, say something new. FFS *insert eye-roll emo*
Does anyone has website which present the script of the show? or just summarization for each shows? I am not a native english speaker and have difficulty to understand some sentence. But I am very interest about this show. Thank you.
> there is not a single Atheist on this planet who is out to disprove ANY religion.
Speak for yourself, bub. ^_^
I want to disprove at least Christianity and Islam so we can get the two most dangerous religions out of the ballpark and lose a nice chunk of the religious bigotry against human rights.
48:06 humans could exist forever, we could fly to another planet when the earth dies away, and if the infinite universe theory is true, we could possibly find a way to travel to another universe when this one dies.
Sam Harris said that there is no reason to lie to people you can have a meaningful relationship with. In the nazi/anne frank example, the person answering the door is dealing with an almost non-human entity, something that will not be reasonable. so then a lie is validated to save a life.
@theUKatheist I found the whole Daniel call far better than most other shows. They cycled through so much info that the uninformed won't have known, when responding to the things Daniel said. Plus you might be underestimating the creationism problem in the US, it's vital to get into this. I suspect it's more than 40-ish%. I think many religious people who tell pollsters they accept evolution know nothing about it and are thereby vulnerable to creationist arguments.
@SelfImmolator no, what exactly is your problem here, i simply stated that they could have got the same result quicker and had more callers. how is that a bad thing to you?
@theUKatheist As I already said, I disagree that they could have got the same result quicker because I think they got into more issues and showed how one dumb argument lead into other dumb arguments. The flow of the argument was worthwhile in itself, too. Better than 3-minute calls, just superficial sparring with morons.
@theUKatheist Then they'll probably call back, whilst the guy that they argued with would probably not especially if his argument is treated as rubbish after 5 minutes. Though i see your point and Matt always trys to get to the point as fast as he can to fit the other callers and to stop things like that happening.
Cancer is a malfunction in the reproduction and replication in the cells of our body. Depending of specific areas of such as skin let's say. UV light destroys the nuclear membrane on a cell, therefore permeating different chemicals inside the cell than what the cell is designed for. Changing it's genetic make-up and causing slight differences when it replicates. Skin cells are designed to be skin when they aren't replicated as normal skin cells, cancer arises.
The last caller suggests cancer as a difficulty to evolution, but remember that natural selection acts as genes pass from one generation to the next. Cancer is by and large a disease of old age, once we have passed our reproductive years, and we have only figured out how to keep ourselves alive long enough to get cancer within the last century. Therefore, by the time I get cancer at 50, I've already given my cancer-causing genes to my children 30 years prior, & 'cancer' genes aren't weeded out.
First, let me preface my complaint by saying that I love what the Atheist Experience is doing. You guys have helped me immensely in my personal liberation from religion, irrationality and superstition. Now, here's the but; I think you guys should change the opening song. To me, and I understand this is my own personal perspective, this song doesn't appeal to adult intellectuals. Maybe this isn't your target audience, but I am a 35 yr. old male and I'm repulsed by this teenage angst sounding song
"There's no need for it to be done quickly..." How about when faced with a cheetah? Wouldn't you need to get your heard pumping quickly when that happens?
so to all the atheists out there. i have a question. i just asked someone on another video to give me some real proof that god exist. his answer was to tell me that "you are alive and breathing, that should be all the proof anyone should ever need." how do i respond to this other than to tell him to go read a science book or any book besides the bible. the stupidity just completely dumbfounded me.
@tdrpowerl - Theres really not much you CAN respond to, in order to have a conversation on this matter we have to have common ground, and without that there is no point in engaging such a person, especially when their position requires a complete obfuscation of reality.
@tdrpowerl "you are alive and breathing, that should be all the proof anyone should ever need." My answer is 1) My existence only disproves the existence of gods by my not believing. 2) And his existence only disproves intelligent design if he expects you to believe such bullshit.
the young earth theory is the correct one. How can we see galaxies billions of light years away? Evolutionists can't explain the "distant starlight problem".
Are you happy Daniel? You murdered the word aficionado in cold blood. Look at your hands Daniel. They will never be clean.
Creep.

@waltermh111 i agree,i like with people who smoke it,and it does kind of seem like there on the defensive if you say that there can be negative side affects of smoking it.I don't think they would believe there were negative side effects even if thousands of studies showed that there was.idk,we won't know for sure until there has been much more research and studies into it.

@18rubiks While nothing has 0 risk, I want to point out a few things to you who believe without analysing. Though I get why its hard to do sometimes.
miller-mccune . com/health/the-cannabis-and-schizophrenia-conundrum-10218/
This is a biased article that is anti-marijuana.
1) It admits there is no conclusion whether schitzophrenia or cannabis use came first.
2) Only 1-2% of population has schizo, yet cannabis use is much higher.
3) The use of cannabis has been common for over 5k years.
waltermh111 3 weeks ago
@18rubiks But it has risen alot in the last few decades yet there has not been a significant rise in schizo.
The comments have some good points also.
The article also seems to conflate use and abuse with cannabis, but not ith alcohol etc... Showing a bias that taints the article.
They also claim cannabis is the most used, and abused drug, which isnt true. Alcohol would likely be the case there.
Making it legal has reduced use in other countries anyway if thats the objective.
waltermh111 3 weeks ago
@waltermh111 i saw that they said that cannabis is the most widely used drug, and that is wrong, cannabis is supposedly(by whoever can track who uses illegal drugs somehow)the most widely used ILLEGAL drug, technically the most used drug is caffeine, then alcohol, and then tobacco. cannabis is the 4th most used.
18rubiks 2 weeks ago
@18rubiks As one commenter put it, the studies didnt seem to take into account the benefit of the drug on the users.
Only a continuous proving of some correlatio which does not equal causation.
Such as most of their schizo patiants use cannabis. Maybe thats because it helps them.
A comment says it seems to put people in jail or mental wards. We must remember, its illegal, thats expected
Some claim its for psychosis acts, where weed is more likely to keep you calmed, not hurting others

It's philosophy.
faizhakim 3 weeks ago
If Evoluton is "proven wrong", having been "proven right" earlier, it would indeed be awkward. Is that not a tautology? And why would that automatically mean that the God Hypothesis (GH) is correct? It is a false dichotomy. For GH to be correct, to rise to the level of a "scientific theory", it too would require evidence. I posit that I created the universe before being born so that I could enjoy it. I know because I did it. Now if Evolution is proven wrong, is my hypothesis accurate? Huh!
faizhakim 3 weeks ago
That guy is so confused about Evolution. "Bad Mutation" e.g. cancer cells kills the organism or differentially is less likely to be passed on. "Good Mutation" is good because the existing competitive forces/environment somehow favor that mutation. We can say it is a good mutation usually after the fact i.e. did it favor the survivavbility of the organism. From our existing point of view it appears that all the mutations were good for them to get here. Not the case at all.

It is however misleading and results in social arrogance.

halb45 3 weeks ago
The caller has a point: you need to specify what you think of as good design in order to show that something is poorly designed, like the giraffe neck. Something to think about is what the defining characteristics of a giraffe are. If you take the extremely long nerve as a defining characteristic of a giraffe, then the nerve must be long in a well-designed giraffe. However, it seems to make sense to call a design "better" if it achieves the design goals while using less resources.

Skin cells are designed to be skin when they aren't replicated as normal skin cells, cancer arises.

dopeasfuckk 3 weeks ago
The last caller suggests cancer as a difficulty to evolution, but remember that natural selection acts as genes pass from one generation to the next. Cancer is by and large a disease of old age, once we have passed our reproductive years, and we have only figured out how to keep ourselves alive long enough to get cancer within the last century. Therefore, by the time I get cancer at 50, I've already given my cancer-causing genes to my children 30 years prior, & 'cancer' genes aren't weeded out.
