  • Never gets old, listened to this countless times... such heft

  • Damn good!

  • What tuning do you play in.

  • nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly nolly...

  • So cool to hear Pete's part and then go right into this video of Nolly. :)

  • @maxxhaste In all seriousness... Look: vikguitars com/en-us/forum/index php?topic=60.0

Though I've been being a dick; my original argument is perfectly sound; just look at those pics. I built a through-neck bass guitar at 16yrs old. I used a flame maple top. 3mm ebony veneer through the body, mahogany back, rock maple neck. I did a better job of bookmatching. I learnt the hard way on the underside of the maple that figured wood doesn't like surface planers...

  • @1slowhead rest assured I've checked out all of the pics that exist of that guitar. I'm glad you elaborated about your experience to support your opinion. There was dickishness from us both, and my apologies for beef threats, but that's solely why I created this username. I'm still buying that guitar and you can't stop me.

  • @maxxhaste The only thing that stood out amongst your jumbled words was 'Vdik'.

  • @MaxxHaste91 "Hey Nolly. I like you. Enough to have a nonsensical argument about the construction of your guitar with a guy that intimidates me with his knowledge of bookmatching. I got so flustered I told him to cool his squashed beef.

So, Nolly... what presets do you use on your Axe fx? What string gauge blah blah scale length? blah?"

    Blah blah?

  • @1slowhead there's the infantile response. No one is intimidated by the pretense of adequacy. It is bookmatched just fine and compared to the rest of the guitar's aesthetics it is a minute detail. I attacked you because you wrote as if you were a pompous luthier and made VdiK out to be a farce, then I attacked you again because that turgid vomit you call an opinion stained my khakis.

  • hey nolly, have you tried hufschmid or rash guitars?

  • THATS NO BASS GUITAR NOLLY

  • @maxxhaste *Google images

...To clarify further, this happens to be THE signature instrument, sat in the hands of its namesake. I am a bit embarrassed for Vik; this is a poor job of bookmatching.

Squash your own beef like a rabid gibbon.

  • @1slowhead cool it please, overzealous pseudo-intellect. I don't need to google bookmatching and I don't deny that I was hasty; but, I stay true to the username, unlike clever youtubers like yourself. And I love that guitar in every way it is ViK's best work IMO, so any criticism you dealt, by default, was going to be met with some confrontation. Unfortunately for me, you turned out to be more of a raving twat than I thought, so I had to react accordingly and I'm not remotely sorry.

  • @maxxhaste Allow me to explain, squashy beef man. A perfectly bookmatched top is achieved by removing as little material as possible between the two halves. Go ahead and tentatively type in 'bookmatched wood' in Google and see what can be achieved with care...

  • @maxxhaste True to your name, you felt compelled to argue without thinking first. Take another look with your broken eyeballs please sir.

I'm not attacking anyone for the sake of it. I'm expressing my disappointment at how an otherwise beautiful piece of work has been spoilt by a lack of attention to detail. I am clearly not your typical troll.

  • The guitar looks just awkward enough to still remain beautiful and then they sand away the bookmatched halves. That isn't being daringly different... it simply upsets anyone involved in woodwork/anyone with eyeballs. Crazy fools.

  • @1slowhead what are you talking about? seriously, I want to know what part of that masterpiece you don't like. the top layer is bookmatched so I don't know what you're beef is, but please squash it.

  • Why would the producers of that guitar do such a poor job of bookmatching?! We're repeatedly shown a close-up of the end of a partially bookmatched guitar; otherwise very beautiful. Deliberate? Crack smokers? Overzealous sanders?

  • Solo was great. Very Vai.

  • subscribed after 0:48 <3

  • GoDAMN that's such a beautiful guitar... amazing music. just found you guys. Have a prosperous career!!!!!

  • Nolly, you're an absolute tank. x

  • hey Nolly where did you get those pants. This IS a legitimate question. hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • I don't understand how these guys can pull money out of their asses to afford those guitars and Axe-Fx processors. It boggles the mind.

  • @Verstaeker work nigga

  • @Verstaeker Don't worry, one day you'll get a job too. Seriously awesome playing and perfect tone, props man!

  • @ambassadorofpain1 Just don't have a well paying job. Need one of them. Also to not be in NZ where economy is crap.

  • @Verstaeker he doesn't pull it out of his ass. he works hard and is in more than 1 band selling albums.

  • Im so sick of people asking for patches and settings. Get off your ass, put in the hard work and make your own fucking patch.

  • I hate the guitar sounding like farting bison :P

  • Do they make six string versions of that guitar?

  • Is this Nolly from periphery? Ive had Red Seas Fire's album for months now...such epic music.

  • @emann43 Nolly is in Red Seas Fire, and is just filling in for Periphery

  • Is this truly just the AxeFX? Great work by the way!

  • Sick!

  • what guitar did you play the leads on?

  • @mank666xx The first one is his vik duality signature and the second is his Blackmachine B6! Beautiful guitars, i would kill for that!

  • that guitar... omg.... I want...

  • Wowwww! What pickups are you using Nolly?

  • Hey Nolly, what is your musical background? Formal study site reading, lot's of theory?

  • you can hear so much more with out the vocals, wicked tone :)

  • LOVED that solo, full of emotion!!

  • Great stuff!!!! Great sound. Greetings from a fellow Fractal forum member hehe.

  • i was wondering what strings you use and what gauge you use?

  • Nolly, are you an official member of Periphery now as well as RSF?

  • ah dat solo, dat Blackmachine, dat ViK! dude I wish I could once afford one of these.

  • Hi!

I want to replace the bridge pickup of my ibanez rg 2550, i play rock, metal, mostly in standard tunning, drop C and drop D. i do not want a emormous amount of bass, i want clarity and note defintion, good pick attack

What pickup model do you recommend me?

Since you have a lot of videos with different bare knucke pickup models, could you do Comparison video between them?

    Thanks.

  • @em07189 The aftermath is what you are looking for. Check out Mishas review of it, at the Bernie Rico Jr channel.

  • @AddictedToSmegma , well i checked that Mishas video in the Bernie Rico Jr channel, and my overall impression is that the pickup has to much treble and mids, what other BK pickup is agreesive but has more bass?

  • The solo with the Blackmachine was gorgeous

  • Clean and tight, just how I like it.

  • Love it! \m/ So GOOD!! The sound quality, the musicianship.. Great work!!

  • put it to 1:23 and let it go from there :D the melodic sounds he is doing sounds amazing right now with my drunk ass :D

  • BEAUTIFUL GUITAR:O:O:O

  • @lineofhead what?

  • I would buy this album if there were hard copies

  • nolly thankyou for the album download its amazing

  • I thought this was a Solefald coevr ;/

  • Hey this is amazing man! What pickups are you using? They sound sweet!

  • @Torqueofficial

  • Your gear sounds pretty huge there buddy.

  • what about the guitar, brand is it?

  • @TheEpiphone28

    Black Machine for the solo

  • NICE COVER;

    NICE GUITAR!

  • pickups??

  • @TheEpiphone28 Custom made.

  • you remind me of me. except you're way more hipster.

  • Haha looks exactly like a blackmachine headstock but with an extra piece of wood on it

  • Oh and by the way, can you make a video of The Recovery? Love it, it´s so melodic.

  • Very nice grooves, Nolly! And a sexy guitar too...

  • What are your pickups? This guitar is very sexy! I love the carved top and neck/headstock binding. Very classy and elegant look. Superb!

  • Unregistered NollyCam 2.0

  • That guitar sounds wicked!!!

  • tone is awesome.

  • Very good playing. Plus, having a cowskin speaker cab is just automatic thumbs up material.:)

  • Can you talk about what's going on in your Axe-FX patch? Lovely tone; I'd love to get it out of my unit.

  • @thinkpad20 Nolly is clever when he records.

He double and quad records each track and also does harmonized quads to get the sound you hear.

As well as a lot more that im unaware of I'm sure.

  • @thinkpad20 Any news on the settings used yet dude?

  • Thought it was a Blackmachine at first and got excited. What type of guitar is that?

  • @FromDevouredGround Its a ViK Duality. He uses a Blackmachine in the solo section though.

  • That solo reminds me of keith merrow on heart of the sea nymph. It. Is. AMAZING!!!

    You guys are great! :D

  • @1jacobdarling i thought i was the only one that saw it =P. but yeah both Nolly getgood and keith merrow are amazing musicians

  • @1jacobdarling its because of the similar scale they're using ;)

  • I've never seen something that is so cool and wrong at the same time, I'm talking about your bottom cabinet ofcourse.

  • wow

  • Amazing, an Axe user actually making music on a 7 string, instead of the predictable fretbored wanking. A first! Well done :)

  • That solo gives me chills every time.

  • I really can't remember the last time I actually commented on a video, but I felt like this one really deserved it. I loved the song!! Did you guys release an album?

  • You guys deserve world fame, that solo at 2:38 was so perfect

  • an instrumental realease would be grand

  • At first I thought this band was called Red Cease Fire

  • I just listened to your album and its awesome! Best stuff i've heard in a while.

  • Dude, this is crazy! I love how you manage to blend fusion and metal/djent so seamlessly and tastefully. Your mixes are killer and so are all your other projects too. Also, I just ordered your signature socks ;-I

  • Outstanding!

  • tabs?

  • Where are Vik guitars made?

  • @maklin25 Belarus.

  • truly great... the guitar is among the most beautiful that i have ever seen (especially the headstock)

  • Holy shit that breakdown!

  • great!!!!

  • Shame that there isn't an instrumental version for the album...great riffs just don't like that kind of vocals anymore

  • Absolutely great!!

  • insane, appealing songwriting.

oh and tell your drummer that he has a SUPERB style.

  • This is incredible. Your solo was so tasteful. Loved every bit!

  • what gauge strings do you use please?

  • Very nice stuff really tight tone, wish I had more than Pod farm when recording because no matter how much I tweak the tones I cannot get anything to sound decent

  • Comment removed

  • there aren't any words that truely justify the beauty & tech. of your playing & your guitar.Sweet mother of God!!!

  • the head stock on that guitar is beautiful

  • well sick

  • I can't get over just how awesome the solo is on this song man. Kudos (and many other congratulatory words). You have some seriously soulful tone!

  • NOLLY,

What camera did you use to record this video? It looks awesome! And also great playing!

  • this is my first video of yours i have seen sir! FUCK ME!

  • What pick ups are in the VIK? I know the Blackmachine has Bare Knuckle

  • @empyreusmusic custom vik pickups

  • tunnnings? tabs? ;)

  • @ALIENMUSICART for tuning, AFAIK it's dropped A :)

  • How much do your studio patches differ from your live if any?

  • Dude, I'd do anything for that Blackmachine....

  • That was prettty badass

  • This music is confusing me a bit. What is the key and time signature. Love the breakdown at 2 min.

  • Love the looks of that guitar. Rosewood neck too? Ebony fretboard? That is some guitar. Excellent playing too.

  • That solo is amazing

  • Could you send me via message the chord progression that you are using starting at 1:27? It would be a big help. Thanks so much!

  • badass.

  • Wow very nice! I like that key change at the end of the solo!

  • That mix is literally mindboggling. HUUUUGE!

  • are you going to release a separate instrumental album like periphery?

  • @skycaptain141 this should not be a question. IT SHOULD BE A DEMAND !!!!

  • @skycaptain141

    Why??

The Vocals Fit in RSF, unlike periphery!!

  • @clcartlidge I'd take the harsh vocals here but the cleans in Periphery.

  • I want your guitars.....where do I get them? And what are they? Thank you for writing a great piece of music!!!

  • Hey Nolly, I really like the crescendoed picking at 2:20. Such nuances really add to the music. Keep it up dude!

  • @LocketRauncher crescendoed picking? If anything, there was a slight crescendo at around 2:35. This song is bursting with energy dude no slow build ups, therefore , no crescendos here.

  • @OfficialRedSeasFire Reminds me Architects 'Hollow Crown' album!!!!

  • That solo was pretty Opethy

  • amazing stuff!

  • chords at 1:25+ are fantastic.

  • I love those huge open chords in the slow section.

  • damn dude that was great. makes me want an axe fx II so bad... I think If I had one I'd get back into recording stuff but I've got live music overflowing my plate and just can't part with the nitro and mako for live use. Otherwise, I'd be throwing my money at Cliff for a snax.

  • You in Drop a flat?

  • @mehtabb1 Drop A - A E A D G B E

  • @tehsimo cheers!

  • Hey man sick song/playing...can you give me a brief overview of how you go about recording your vids for youtube? The quality is awesome! Thanks man!

  • I watch this several times a day :) By the way, it seems I may actually be getting a Vic guitar after all. I'll message you tomorrow if I hear from Vic :D
