People, he's playing ska chords, which are pretty much bar chords, except without the Low E, A, and sometimes D. The reason he does this is because he's not playing those three notes to begin with, due to the upstroke strumming style he's playing. This makes it easier on his hands, because playing bar chords non stop constantly for 1 or 2 hours can be hard even for a guitar guru.

He does happen to bar the Am in the beginning during the whistle solo, I don't know why.
