Actually I beleive heath Ledger tried to capture the character that was in the comics, because he read so many to get in the head of the Joker. He did his best to make it original as well. But this was, in my opinon, a Joker that most people read abouyt in the comics because he kills in them as randomly asa he does in the movie.

What I was getting at is the new interpretation the director and Ledger used to define the character as a more realizable human being rather than a far-fetched creature with a nearly mythological creation story.

Of course he bares all core attributes of the Joker, just with a twist
