I'm from the north (Cleveland,OH), I grew up an Ernie Davis fan in the 1960s as he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. I currently live in Houston, TX. On paper the KKK may be dead but in reality they are still burning crosses out in the boondocks around here. It's best to leave everyone to do their own thing and stay out of their business. Also, Syracuse was a football powerhouse in the 1950s, comparable to what Florida, Florida St., Miami, Oklahoma have been during the past few years.
