  • @yup, fuck you.

  • i love fat chicks

  • Nice video.

  • cool...but a little sterile imo

  • Talented as well as beautiful. Great music.

  • That must be what sunlight sounds like. :-)

  • jimi hendrix of the fiddle world

  • But why the Diminished end??

  • Gosh, it is really difficult to figure out what she's playin because, the string are all jumbled up. Low G at the Bottom and High E at the top..

  • This lady is smoooth. Would bet she has a classical background.

  • You are awesome, Katrina!!!

  • Katrina just won the 2011 National Fiddle Contest in Weiser, Idaho as well. Katrina is one of my favorite fiddlers- a world class player and a classy women.

  • What's the point in playing left handed??

  • @greenfloyd68 She is my teacher and is a lefted handed. She is not uncomfortable at all and she loves what she does.

  • She's a classic music violin player... about at 1:56 you can find a kind of Paganini's Capricci influence ;)

  • @pozpa She is my teacher and she does not play Classical. She did when she was five though.

  • strange kinda un-balanced feeling watching her play a fiddle left-handed AND upside-down... but, what tone and clarity - Grand Master,Indeed!

  • She is a fantastic fiddler!

  • Nice job on Beaumont Rag, one of my favorite tunes.

  • Just a note. Katrina is my cousin, the fiddle she plays is not a left handed fiddle it is a standard fiddle in everyway excpt two things. 1. The chin rest is a left handed chin rest and the woman playing the fiddle is beyond extrodinary. I am so glad to call her and her mom family. Her mom also taught me to play.

  • Am I the only one that thinks parts of this song sound like the Super Mario theme song?

  • thats intence. Though it sounds kinda jazzy..

  • Wonderful ! And I think she is playing an instrument setup for righty which makes this player even more amaazing.

  • Wonderful !

  • That tone is gettin to me !

  • What... Just happened. Whoa.

  • goose bumps

  • She has great position/posture. I am amazed that she didn't restring her instrument to be left-handed. Excellent, maestro.

  • @CreasonStudios : a majority of the instruments, rightly or not, are made for right-handed playing, so the availability of quality instruments is much larger if you purchase a right handed fiddle. It may not look it, but the interior of a fiddle takes into account low heavy strings on one side and thin high bright strings on the other side, shape of bridge vs. fingerboard, etc. Simply flipping the bridge & strings around, or just the strings will not work.

  • excellent!!!!!! She is very good. Sounds like she could go on the road with a country//bluegrass group. Tough luck to all you guys still looking. Looks like a diamond ring on her hand//finger. Looks like another guy beat you men to this one. Looks like she is already attached. Maybe you guys will have good luck later like me. We have been so happily married for 36 years now. Sure dues get by before you now it. All best wishes. Respectfully, RN

  • excellent!!!!!! She is very good. Sounds like she could go on the road with a country//bluegrass group. All best wishes. Respectfully, RN

  • Nice fiddlin' Katrina! That's a very sweet sounding fiddle! Was it made by Frank Daniels?

  • its left handed.. you can tell because the chin rest is on the left side

  • @TheEmoluver013 nope, the chin rest is left-handed but the fiddle itself is a right-handed fiddle.

  • That's a left handed fiddle alright

  • Bill birchfield is better!

  • You see a lot of people advertising them as great fiddlers on youtube...their usually not. This lady is really incredibly smooth and clean. Great!!

  • I'm a grand master champion at the arena in the imperial city

  • good job lady! ;)

  • Insane! She's brilliant, but playing a right handed violin with left handed violin technique is incredible. Kudos to her!

  • What specific sheet music do you think she used to learn this? I have a new temporary mission in life. I know the name of the song, but all the selections I've found don't seem this complex.

  • Cyril Stinnett the great old timey Missour fiddler played like this I think, with the fiddle round the wrong way...if you get my drift?

  • Awwwww..... I'm left handed and I still had to learn the violin/fiddle using the bow in the right hand and violin in the left. :(

  • WOW... You play left handed. Wicked!!!!!

  • playin sweet county music...makes me wish that i was there!

  • thats great fiddling. never seen a left handed player that hadnt the strings changed so the e string at the bottom. must have been real tricky to learn. 5 star

  • o_o... first time seeing a left-handed player :o!

  • WOW!!!! a left handed fiddler!!!! i didnt know they had those!!!!?!?!?

  • @deathnotefan92196

Molly Cherryholmes is another super talented rarity.

  • waaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuw what a lady her technics are SUPER GREAT thanks for posting it

  • The pegs tell you whether it's left or right handed, it's a right handed violin. I make them.

  • @barquester YOU would know then huh? shes terrific rt?! i think so..

  • She's definitely playing an right hand strung violin left handed. I have an old friend in my town who does the same thing. She's great!

  • No, a left handed violin has the bass bar and post on the opposite side as well. I'm sureshe has a genuine left-handed violin--she's surely good enough to have earned it, what a treat! Fantastic.

  • Beautiful job ! - of what seems to me to be a very complicated piece - but well worth trying to learn - well, remember ! Never seen a fiddle played left-handed before, re-strung or not. She's livin proof that it makes no difference ? - or that it CAN be done !

  • She is a superb player. I am left-handed but I havealways been formed to play the Regular way.

  • i think shes playing a right handed violen left handed

  • @Chazzbass13 I think you're right, and doing a darn good job, too...

  • @Chazzbass13 yes she is... how weird.... never seen that before. but she delivers well.

  • @Chazzbass13 I think you're wrong...Her E string is on top still, therefore it has been set up as a left handed violin.

  • @irbrannon

Nope - it's strung as a normal right handed violin but played by a left hander lol

E-String would be on the bottom if it was a lefty.

The chin rest is the only difference I can see.

  • @Chazzbass13 You are right.... Oh my god its so wrong... O.o

  • @Chazzbass13

    that looks uncomfortable...

  • @Chazzbass13 yer the top e string is over to her right .

  • @Chazzbass13 she is, you can tell from how she reaches over to play the high notes rather than close to her.

  • Clear accurate playing. I like it.

  • it takes a lot to make me smile...listening to that made me happy....thanks!

  • That's my wife!!!!!!!!!! I love her very much!!!!!!!! Alex Nicolayeff, By the way her name in Katrina Nicolayeff now, for over a year!

  • You are an inspiring force for all of us who are learning to play this challenging instrument. I love that you are left handed.

  • That's cool. Is this just another style playing a right hand left....would confuse me ta death. I assume you also play standard just as well...but no doubt a master, you're GREAT.

  • Nice one

  • At last! A left-handed fiddler playing a right-handed fiddle!

  • Katrina, I never comment on youtube - all I gota say is you inspired me - and not many fiddlers do ... Beautiful artistry ... and I agree with ralph5656 - you need to post more - maybe old 36 string jazz stuff ... and a nice waltz - midnight on the water - thanks

  • You're playing it wrong that's why your so good. Man I love it.

  • juste the best of the world!!!wow the wow the wow !!

  • Your pitch accuracy is really quite incredible.

  • Katrina, you are simply an amazing fiddle player with lot's of energy and finess...and beautiful too....

  • Great!

  • So thats my problem. I should be playing

a left handed fiddle righthanded! I KNEW

    I had an excuse.

  • Same thing I was thinking. lol I can play Beaumont Rag but not like that. Great job!

  • Only one fault I can find here. She need to have more videos with backup. She is very pretty but not enough to hurt her fiddle playing any. lol

  • amazing tone

  • Well, I knew a heck of a guitarist who played a right-handed guitar left-handed. Boggles the mind a bit, with the instrument strung "backward" for a lefty.

    Whatever works!

  • One of the Black Blues players from way back played guitar like that...Muddy Waters maybe?

  • Agreed, she is playing right handed with fiddle still strung for left. It looks weird as hell to watch. - BUT Sounds awesome!

  • Hang on - is she playing a right-handed fiddle left-handed?!

  • Wow. Looks that way. Awesome Job!!!

  • excellent...

  • so basically shie is the greatest of ALL TIME!!! i have NEVER seen better than this girl right here...pure talent! no one tops this girl right here " KATRINA NICOLAYEFF" BTW she got married!!!

  • I remember watching this girl grow up and she's always had a great command of the fiddle. This tune shows off every ounce of her ability. I love this tune and this version is really good.

  • @fiddlemepink

    This tune ?! - What tune - please !

  • @fiddlemepink Sorry, too soon ! - Beaumont Rag, ok.

  • C-L-E-A-N!!!

    Wow!

  • from 1:57 it sounds fiddle passacaglia lolz

  • I agree, this is the most impressive version of Beaumont Rag I have ever heard. Katrina's technique is incredibly clean. What a great player.

  • In my opinion, this is the best rendition of the Beaumont Rag I have ever heard.

  • not enough feeling, no emotion, the song is meant to be danced to but you cant feel it. If this genre of music is played correctly you can always, almost subconsciously, hear and feel that underlying beat, stamp, rhythm.

Unfortunately I do not feel this, and thus I do not ultimately appreciate the music, nothing could make me want to listen to this again.

just my 2 cents, otherwise she's got great technique and ability.

  • GOOD!!!

  • Now, that's playing!

  • 9 Year Old Fiddler - Mikayla Roach - Orange Blossom Special wow it's good 4 a nine yr old

  • great job. How you play that axe with the strings set up for right hander is beyond me. I was messing around the other day and tried to play mine left handed. That didn't last long.lol Post some more if you get a chance.

  • Excellent fiddling, clear as a bell and smooth as Kentucky whiskey.

  • wooh doggie i could jig to that

  • @robertsyt

    Yeah boy! Like Booker's bourbon!

  • this really inspires me because im a left handed player as well, but nowhere as good!

  • You go girl!

  • wow! left handed!! that's amazing(:

  • that was so cool!

  • amazing!!! brilliant!! wonderful!! wow.. i wish i could play that well..

  • Its bobbies daughter!! ah man i miss fiddle camp so much!

  • buenisimo, nunca lo imagine en el otro hombro... que grande esta chica!!

  • ohh, thats kinda weird when its on the other shoulder. i didnt know you got that. :s

  • I'm left handed as well, but I play true southpaw. She's playing it simply flipped, makes it even more impressive.

  • thats really good for a left hand violinist!!!

  • outstanding...

  • Why dosen't she get a lefthander violin? Omg that's impressive though it must be really uncomfortable though!

  • Holy crap! You are really good. I played the violin for twelve years and was pretty good, but you are really good at the fiddle.

  • Those string crossings are tricky enough right-handed, but when you don't have the advantage of a down bow to start them they must be a real pain! Kudos.

  • GO KATRINA! she is my fiddle teacher :]

  • dude...never mind the string crossings impressive though they are...how 'bout those double stops...good lord...I don't think my brain could work backwards like that.

  • Fancy schmancy and impressive fiddling Katrina! Glad you're using the talent that you have! From a fiddler and music batik artist from northern WI.

  • "Grand Master Fiddler champion" couldn't be better deserved - hats off to a magnificent talent!

    Best' Geoff. :O)

  • Jimi Hendrix, mostly did not string his guitar for left hand either. You are an original.

  • left handed? its so odd to see even a lefty playing with the hands reverse... how's she get a chin rest that fits the right side of the violin?

  • Sounded wonderful. Damn. tune is called "Beaumont Rag"

  • Does anyone know what this piece is called?

  • Does anyone know how to transfer this video into a music file using firefox or any other? I would love to listen to this brilliant play in my MP3. Thank you very much

  • Woah that's backwards...can she play the other way too? I've always wanted to learn how to play like that.

  • She's a left handed fiddler! But does not string her fiddle backward. One of the best for sure and friend of mine.

  • What in the world! She's playing the other way around. Look at how she's holding the violin :P

  • Typically I'm not crazy about fiddling - I'm an uptight and stodgy *violinist*, though I do fiddle on occasion when the fancy takes me. Usually I don't like fiddling because it is so flat, but this was quite excellent and enjoyable.

  • Terrific intonation and technique!

  • hey i was just wondering where all that begginning part came from. Is it just another version or what? thanks

  • Awesome!

  • Not just a Master, but a GRand Master. does that mean no one on earth is better? or is there a higher rank?

  • Grand Master as in Grand Master Fiddle Contest. Its just the name of the contest doesn't mean she is the best on earth.

  • i was just jokin. the title is just really powerful sounding.

  • Yea.

  • DAMN SWEETHEART !!!!....you belong here in nashville Tn.....keep it up doll

  • Ok I realize she is left handed but the fiddle is strung like a righty. That is even crazier beyond the fact she is an awesome fiddler.

  • Crazy.

  • is it not crazy?! :] what makes it especially awesome, is the fact that her E string is where the G string would normally be, and vice versa. so she can get a lot of pressure when playing the G string which gives her such a deep and warm sound. with most right handed fiddlers, we just get all that power on squeeky E strings. ha!

  • thats my fiddle teacher :] love herrr <33

  • She taught you well! You have some impressive trophys for your shelf.

  • why thank you. :]

  • So do you play backwards like her, too?

  • no i play right handed. i don't know how she does it, i would get all kinds of confused if i played my fiddle backwards like that! i've tried. haha. only katrina :]

  • Where's she from? I'd love for my daughter to take lessons; she's a leftie also.

  • I have a feeling she's from Idaho, considering one of the tags states the Idaho Statesman...

  • Yup, she's from Boise, Idaho :)

  • she lives in boise idaho. she's a great teacher, she was mine for many years when i was younger :] love her to death!
