@jacobR1377 Shut up!. Stop Bitching!. USA and England killed and inslaved native people and black people. Do you remember: Apartheid, Ku Klux Klan .. no? It's recent, hypocrite!. The Spanish abolished slavery longtime before than the British did. Spain was a pioneer in giving same rights to Native Americans. In fact the Spaniards married with Native Americans. Look, how many, natives live in Iberoamerica compared with Indians that live in USA or Canadá (today). Genocide silenced, cowboy. Blurb.
@SAACAAS Alot of what You say but dont overlook the fact Natives Here and Canada are way better off.And Spanish greed for gold and the Church destroyed most of the artifacts of the Incas,Mayans and Aztecs. And when Spain built the Missions Here in California how did They treat the Natives?
@calman1951, well, it's difficult to judge the past with current standards. But you can see the results in the present days. You can evaluate the trace of Native American peoples in both societies. Spanish controled areas VS English ruled zones. The difference is that north of the Mexico-USA border, there is almost no contribution from autoctonous natives to the present socitey. While south of the border the population, the traditions and culture are mestizo (mixed), they survived.
Ahhhh Califormia, land of my birth. I miss it a lot!! Wonderful tribute to the old missions. Every third grader learns this part of California history.
Saludos.
@jacobR1377 Why do you think you speak english? Why do you think english is the most extended language in the world today? As a result of an english peace policy? Don't forget that english people did the same (and even worst) that you say in much more countries than spaniards. Would you refuse your english heritage? You're not an objective person.
SPAINARDS SEEM TO THINK THERE SUPERIOR OVER OTHER HISPANIC CULTURES. THE ONLY THING THAT EVER CAME OUT OF SPAIN THAT WAS GOOD IS MARGARITA CANSINO( AKA RITA HAYWORTH ) AND THE CALIFORNIA MISSIONS.EVERYTHING ELSE TO ME IS EUROTRASH
@jacobR1377 , I'll give you an advice (it's free). Go back to school. Do not skip classes again. Are you losing a lot of time without reaching the minimum necessary to progress in life. Reconsider your actual education level.
I love the way you show each of the missions. And the amazing thing about them is that each of them is basically different, even though they are Spanish-style architecture. How amazing.
@okeith3917, thank you very much for your comment. You are right.
It appears that the oldest buildings were simpler, with perishable materials (clay, wood). Little by little around the missions, indigenous settlements flourished. The missions were getting bigger by using solid materials (stone), and the monks gave them a more sophisticated and majestic atmosphere.
Beautiful vid. I was born and raise there, and even though I am not Hispanic either by race or ethnicity or culture, there's a certain peace and calm that the Spanish style of buildings seem to convey. There's even a hospital close to where I come from that was built with the Spanish architecture in mind.
@suryavajra, thank you very much for the comment. I think your definition of traditional Spanish architecture is absolutely accurate. Is that peace and calm that spreads through their patios and arcades what invites relaxation and meditation.
you're very welcome!! You're totally right about the relaxation and meditation. more often than not, in a warm late summer afternoon, they invite you to just spend a little time, sit down on a bench and just close your eyes for a bit.
What I am trying to convey in my comments is that Hispanics are not a race, we are a culture, a civilization.
What I am trying to bring to mind with the video is that our ancestors were the first westerners to arrive, and the first ones to build cities, hospitals, universities and missions in the New World.
Believe it or not explorer, usualy the California textbook would start with Spanish exploration at Chapter 2. Right after the Intro to the State and the Chapter on Native Americans. There's smethng about the Spanish architecture that really resonates with me and makes me feel comfortable and at home.
@suryavajra, I think we link the Spanish colonial architecture with a relaxed lifestyle, peaceful and family related. Therefore, we identify it with a natural home, with the house and life we all would want to have.
It certainly is......As I said before here, I visited a hospital in California built in the same exact Spanish style, and the environment is so much more peaceful, relaxing and healing for the patients and their families than the downtown hospitals.
I'd definitely like to see a return of that architecture when it comes to homes, schools, hospitals, etc.

@jacobR1377, I urge you wonder where are the natives of North America. What trace left then in the anglo saxon culture?
You can compare with the rich culture of Central and South America.
Do not get carried away by the clichés.
