This piece is very exotic. I read somewhere that Saint-Saens composed this at Luxor, but I am not sure about that. But still, the Andante movement is very exotic compared to other pieces. Interesting...
155 views??? only a hundred and fifty five people have heard this? what a pity! it is a beautiful interpretation, and none should have to miss the bliss of hearing it.
Dear Truecrypt, thank you so much for posting this magnificent interpretation. I want to ask you something: you said that this interpretation is from beginning of the 50's or so. But frankly I thought that Richter only recorded this piece at the very end of his career. I mean the 5th concerto, not the second, which he actually did. Am I right or wrong? Thank you
Yes, the last mouvement is the last estude named toccata from the op. 111. Saint-saens liked so much this part that he transformed it into a very difficulty stude.
The composer was a huge genius-savant in different fields. It was Berlioz or someone who said, "Saint- Saens? The only thing he lacks is inexperience."
This would have been an amazing concert to witness, Richte with the moscow Youth orchestra under the Kondrashin.

Saint-Saens' sense of tonality was just incredible. Does anyone hear a bit of Smsn et Dlla in this?

By the way I presume that's Saint-Saens and not Richter?

Thanks you to comment on my writing, pianoplejer.
My most favorite Piano Concerto is Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 2.
It always reminds me of the dream of my youth and gives me energy to live an optimistic life.
I love Chopin's piano pieces and concertos, too.

I love this concerto. This was the first recording of it I ever heard, more than 40 years ago, and it's been my favorite ever since.
Thanks, Truecrypt.

There are recording of Saint-Saëns 2nd and 5th made in 1993 with Latvian orchestra. They also exist on VHS but I don't have them
The one I posted is from 50s.
So, you are correct - later recording does exist!

Yes, Saint-Saëns used the finale as one of his etudes as well (or the other way round).
