I like this pianist very much. He seems to be in tocuh with the music unlike many contempories. That is also, a fantastic piano. It's tone seems familiar and warm. Horowitz must have been very particular in choosing his piano and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he had actually played a part in the design of certain parts. Thank you for posting this video.
Horowitz never actually owned this piano and it was never in his home. When not in use for concerts it sat in the basement of Steinway Hall in NYC. Who knows where it is now.
@xistr Here is a message from the owner of this piano. It's in two parts because of its length.
Dear xistr,
While you are correct in that Horowitz never owned CD-75, you are incorrect in that this instrument was not in Horowitz's home. In fact, I am the current owner and I have a letter from the Steinway & Sons Concert Department indicating that it was craned in and out of his East 94th Street home twice. (it continues...)
...This piano was used through the early 1980's and was the instrument he played and recorded in London. As well, he played this piano at the Met twice. I was there for both concerts. He played his first concert in Tokyo on CD-75 and he played the piano all through touring the USA in that era. (it continues...)
... Franz Mohr, Horowitz's concert tune, discusses CD-75 and how Horowitz came to know and love this piano is his book, "My Life with the Great Pianists". The piano is shortly to come to stay at Lincoln Center. -Tali
Has his piano been restored at all ? I mean it has been played by horowitz himself probably daily when he was alive and it doesnt seem to want to quit! its like in perfect shape! how is this?
Bravo! My friend, this is the best performances of this piece I've ever heard. You get every nuance that can be wrung out of a great Steinway, and capture both ends of the spectrum - the wild, heart-pounding abandon and the elegiac lyrical warmth. You've made me remember how I first heard the piece in my mind's ear when I played it as a teenager - with all the banging versions over the span of many years, I'd forgotten how extraordinarily beautiful this piece is. Thank you for reminding me.
What an amazing opportunity to record on Horowitz's piano!!! I really enjoyed the extreme HD sound and video. For your performance, I think this is one of my favorites now. I really like how you played the middle section and brought out some of the inner voices =)

A very good performance. I recall that Horowitz at least kept his hands shaven.

In Tribute
Sandro Plays
Sensibilities and passion in sounding splendor
To the will of beauty his heart to surrender
Upon piano keys black and white
Heard be the call of the questing light
Sandro plays, artistry in rapture sublime
The music, the music, and known be the divine.

No, seriously, this is a very beautiful rendition of Scriabin's beloved Etude. Also this piano has a fantastic color palette.
