You know what, after coming back from a debate about the portrayal of female characters in gaming I honestly (still i think, can't remember what i said previously) agree 100% with you. Female characters can EASILY be sexy and strong JUST as male characters are. The prejudice comes from the people that say female characters aren't allowed to be sexy or have sexy poses because it's wrong blah blah. It's stupid double standards cause guy characters are more or less the same.
what the fuck? this video is pointless, no one thinks like that. sexy is sexy, slutty is a verb not an adjective. men are the only sluts all of them, because they project their crap on people.
I think it is not about how everyone freaks out about a sexy lady in a video game.
The point is that female character are mostly completely reduced to being sexy and/or slutty. They seem to lack any other personality traits. That is what makes them so slutty (even if they are intended to be sexy).
So: Female character + Personality - complete set of clothes = more on the sexy side.
Female character - Personality - complete set of clothes = more on the slutty side.

In my personal opinion though there is nothing to be ashamed about either way because regardless if its sexuality or action on display, its all just another aspect of nature so why be ashamed of nature. Not to mention most people forget what the appeal behind fictional works are to begin with. Fiction such as fighting games are augmented reality intended to empower the player so why would we want to play as a unattractive and overweight male or female characters anyways lol.

However both are a aspect of nature so why society feels that 1 is more"obscene"then the other is truly beyond me. I would also argue that deducing the male form to a source of action objectifies it as much as a females body deduced to its reproductive factor, so the double standard is if anything more sexist against men because its saying"its ok if men are objectified".
The male form however is a muscle, it is power and strength incarnate. The association is more to action and not exactly sexuality even if it could very well be something sexual the male body is used for. That is why people instantly see a fit male as a athlete or warrior even if he is barely covered. They associate him as a figure of action but not exactly a sexual action, in short they view him as a muscle and not a source of reproduction.
The female form is inherently more sexual because the female form corresponds largely to the reproductive factor especially with the breast and hips. The female body is a incubator, with the sole premise of child rearing so it's only natural that it will instantly be associated with sexuality. The irony is that progressives and feminist are complacent in this immediate association as well, and everyone does it almost by instinct because we all know that on primal biological level women=babies.

1. The fanservice is much less blatant (if it is fanservice). Hwoarang and Jin's outfits are pretty sensible for a fighter, unlike Cammy or Nina's silly outfits. Also, I don't recall Jin ever sticking his butt out to the camera for his win pose.
2. EVERY female in Tekken/SF provides fanservice. In SF you've got ugly, weird looking dudes like Dhalsim and Blanka, while every female can be described as "generically pretty".

@SomethingRules Both men and women are made good looking in fighting games. They're high profile action games so most of the characters are going to be like Barbies and Kens. That is unless the character is SUPPOSED to be ugly.

Take a look at street fighter for example; that game focuses on being a game, not a fanservice adventure, like SkullGirls or the soul caliburs.(Remember:my gripe is with the art-style, not the actual game.) Those things are not necessarily bad, WHEN they have a reason to be there, and in fighting games most of the time they don't serve any purpose other than attracting the male crowd with boobs.

When all of your characters are flashing panties it becomes boring and just tasteless. As with Soul Calibur, it is only a trick to attract male gamers.

And, Peocock from Skullgirls is creepy.
Also, keep in mind, there are WAY more male characters in fighting games to begin with, so of course you're going to see much more character diversity in male designs, because there are A LOT MORE MALES.
SSF4 has 39 characters, yet only 8 females.
But, more diversity would be good.

Take a look at street fighter for example; that game focuses on being a game, not a fanservice adventure, like SkullGirls or the soul caliburs.(Remember:my gripe is with the art-style, not the actual game.) Those things are not necessarily bad, WHEN they have a reason to be there, and in fighting games most of the time they don't serve any purpose other than attracting the male crowd with boobs.

Street Fighter has characters like Rainbow Mika, who show off more of their figure and incorporate more sex appeal in design than ANY SG character to date.Sakura pretty much originated the "panty shot" in a high profile fighter series. But all of those characters have character besides that, and so does EVERY character in Skullgirls.
So how is SG any more of a 'fanservice adventure' than any game that has it (SF)?

And well, Sakura is THE upskirt girl, its meant to be her "gimmick".
When all of your characters are flashing panties it becomes boring and just tasteless. As with Soul Calibur, it is only a trick to attract male gamers.
