It's not as simple as letting them go. Some are orphaned when poachers kill their parents and sell the orphans to private individuals. In the event that they're rescued, they *have* to live among humans because they've never known living in the wild and can die if left to fend for themselves. The one's seen at shows like that are "humanised" and can't be set free or they'll die without humans.
