  • No waterstart with waves xD

  • Two possible causes of catapult. Too much power in the lift, and forgetting to sheet out once up. Firstly the sail should feel like flying wing, you control the lift by sheeting in. Tilt it forward and back to orientate. Once its in the right position, it will feel balanced, neither pulling on the front or back hand. The other cause of catapult is not sheeting out up top. You want the sail to launch you into the air, but as soon as you are on you feet sheet out with your back hand.

  • I was trying loads last season, but every time I get catapulted over the board along with the sail.

    Any advice?

  • the wind will never pull you onto the board you will best inn the warter for ever

    keep your arms strate

and slide your body onto the board yousing you back foot and tucking it under your ass

you should be croched on the board with your arms strate and the sail pointing strate up

    and then just stand up

  • Not sure what you mean by "wind will never pull you onto the board you will best inn the warter" but I have to disagree with what I think you mean - the wind does pull you onto the board. If the wind is strong enough to plane, sheeting in will catapult you up onto the board - all you have to remember is to sheet out once you are over the board so you don't keep going. In lighter conditions, or in the shadow of a large swell - yes you do need to hang low, pull in with your back foot and step up.

  • I can see now that learning to waterstart is going to be a real confidence booster. I never had lessons more than a 2 hour beginners course about a million years ago. And have mainly pottered around on longboards ever since.

  • The kiter did a boost and crashed in deep water at high tide. The tide was going out, so as I went past I saw his board drifting out to sea. He was a beginner, so I figured that he was not going to get it in time. In our little slice of heaven, we look out for each other - we make sure new guys feel welcome and work very hard to diffuse any tensions - which mainly come from blow-ins used to congested urban aggression. As a result I consider all the local kiters and windsurfers the best of mates.

  • Where was the kiter hanging out? Great stuff helping him out! +1
