They study hundreds of meerkats, so they're not too fussed about what they name them. (:
Grumpy, the meerkat, was named after one of the Seven Dwarves from Snow White! They also have groups like The Toyota (named after a car), Commandoes (World War 2), sometimes they name them after plants like Baobab and Drie Doring...
Sometimes they come up with pretty unusual names :P
I don't think the researchers purposely gave Grumpy her name, they study so many meerkats that putting deep consideration into their names is really neccessary. I'm sure they miss Grumpy too<3
They called her Grumpy after the seven dwarfs (she has several siblings named after the other dwarfs) so I suppose they had a reason for calling her that, though it still wasn't very nice.
But the nicknames Pig and Greedy they had no reason for :(

Grumpy gave birth to six pups shortly before she died. None of the rest of the group has TB (new DF Hemulen, Grumpy's daughter was one of the first female to become pregnant this year) , One of her pups was missing at the end of last month. Hopefully he was just with his evicted older sisters.
Grumpy was a ghreat lost to the KMP and such an old girl she was. She did Have a Litter I beleive Or was pregnant before she was lost TB. Did you have an account on KMP?
Anywho, This is a beautiful video dedicated to a great meerkat! Grumpy really was something. Even disapearing for months after months and finally returning. I'll miss her <3
For other documentaries, I beleive there was a few scenes she may have starred as Flower in the flower movie. But that wasn't really a documentary anyways and I'm not sure if she was one of the 'actors'.
I found it on ebay, it should still be availble if you're interested! It also features the Elveera Group, led by Eleusine! I plan on making a tribute to her too sometime. XD!

Nice video, though there was only one error, her identity name. Her name is actually Grumpy Lazuli, she was born in the Lazuli group.

Yes, she was born in the Lazuli, in a litter of 7. I prefer to use her other more commonly refered to identity name, Moomins.

I cried so hard when I first heard Grumpy had died.
She was such a wonderful meerkat, yet the researchers were mean to her, giving her horrible nicknames like Greedy and Pig :(
Even calling her Grumpy wasn't nice.
She wasn't grumpy.
She was an angel.
I saw a picture of her on her 9th birthday, after her first successful birth in over two years.
She looked so happy, with a big smile on her face, like she knew it was her birthday.
It's so sad she's gone now.
