I love Dee Dee because she is HERSELF!!! I have met her twice, she is a fantastic singer, a superb performer and a wonderful person who thinks nothing of coming of stage to say "Hey sister, how you doin'? I remember you from my last show!"...('in Japan,.that's where I live). When she asked for requests I yelled "Do a Blues!"! She went right into a Blues with her signature scat which I Love!! This is one super-Diva I will love forever!!!
One of my favorite clips of Dee Dee. Along with being a jazz ,blues and bossa nova aficionado for many years, here Dee Dee does a fine job with Horace Silver's composition.
I discovered Ms Dee Dee Bridgewater when I was about 15 years old. "Sweet Rain" was the first song I ever heard her sing. Dee Dee is a classic master-piece. She's right up there with Phylis Hyman, Angela Bofill, Randy Crawford, Sara Vaughn, to name a few. I absolutely love Dee Dee and her performance in this video is fantastic.
salsa is not jazz? Jazz an african american thing. Started in the brothels in New Orleans. Song of my Father is an old jazz classic (standard). Dee Dee has definetly mastered her craft.
Thanks, boricuajazzz8 for this from your collection. I never heard of Diva Dee Dee Bridgewater. Her voice is magnificent, and the piece is also until the too frantic for me mid to end trills. Gonna stick with Horace for now.
We bow our heads and we pray. Every day's Father's Day. Let's review. All that he means to you. Our Mother's love is real nice. But old Dad sacrificed. For us too. Let us give him his due. We're very proud to be. In his biography. We sing this song for him. And you.
I didnt know this song has a lyrics... unfortunatelly I don't understand to her pronounciation... Please, can somebody write here the lyrics? Thanks a lot.
Man Roy Ayer's is your Dad? How cool.I love his music too.I hear he still has alot unreleased recordinds in the vault.I have both volumes that were put out.Waiting for another. Yes Dee Dee is great.
Ded Dee Bridgewater, over the years has sung songs by Horace Silver, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and others. Her love for the lions and lioness's of jazz are undeniable. She continues to grow as an artist. She now has begun to explore African music. She has also lent her voice and style to electronica/house music. Dee Dee is an eclectic artist.
wow..... she really gives me a wonderful experience. allready one of my favorite songs, DD beats Horace himself, with her blue notes and incredibly warm voice! many thanks for placing this.
boricuajazzz8: She DID record with Horace Silver him on the Love and Peace CD. I believe Horace played on 3 of the selections...Horace's songs originally had no lyrics, but Dee Dee asked him to write some & she sang them on this CD...OUTSTANDING !
Koko...thanks so much for sharing this! I've heard this song before, but never such a pinnacle performance! DeeDee has got such an amazing voice!...her sound is beautiful and one of an "instrument" delivering a wonderful, beautiful rendition of such a timeless song! Great performance.... gracias, amiga!
the CD is fantastic, probably one of her best jazz-wise. I think Jimmy Smith played the B3 in the CD version..but there's still a soft place in my heart for the album "Just Family" from 1977, of which I still have an original copy...je vous aimerai pour toujours dee de dee car vous êtes le dee de phase quintessenciel de dee d'interprète de jazz... !
A fan of Dee Dee Bridgewater's voice since Roy Ayer's Lifeline, and her Just Family albums, I appreciate this posting, very nice indeed! Her tribute CD to Horace Silver is one of her best. Thanks
Go Dee Dee!

This little song for my father.
Does things that no other
Can do, as I sing it to you.
It has a rhythm and rhyme.
That will fasten his memory.
In time, as his beauty shines through.
For through my mind and soul.
My heart will always hold.
A special place for him.
It's true.
