The Autism Intervention Research Trust can help parents know which alternative treatment might work so that they do not spend thousands of dollars on quack treatments.

My daughter has been on a strict diet and it can improve even if your child is older now. No wheat and no dairy is the big one, and give lots of vitamins and supplements like digestive enzymes and acidophilus.
