Yes, I declare that this is my favorite song off Damnation. I hate the whole album, but this song at least isn't screwed up by Mikael's terrible clean vocals.
@demonof90 I have been listening to camel for a very long time, actually way longer than Opeth... And I wrote this because I quoted Mikael from Lamentations after he played this.. Check out the DVD
does anybody know what genre this kinda music is? i dont mean opeths progressive death metal but this bluesy, slow soloing type. im really loving the sounds and would like to hear more of these kind of music...so please, if you guys know any artist that plays similiar to this let me know. thanks!
This was the most-listened to song on my friend's Itunes. He shot himself in the head two days ago. I was his closest friend and he was my closest friend. I miss him dearly. I will always listen to this song and think of him.
Sorry, it's not my intention to garner sympathy or attention. He had very few friends, perhaps I was one of his only friends.. and I want the world to know he existed.
@jybh012 I only wish they could have dedicated this song to him then, im sorry for your loss, i have lost 3 of my closest family members as well, even saw my grandmother pass
Thank you very much. And I appreciate your other comment too. My friend once told me, 'my life has no present and I see no future for myself. I'm hanging in the balance and there's no where for me to go but out...'
On January 1st, it'll have been 9 months but that void is still there.
@jybh012 I lost my best friend too. He hanged himself. We were two strange dudes, alone in a strange reality togheter, and in some way i feel this had to happen to help me see life in other perspective. I´m taking pills and therapy for about two years. I feel i have the weight of his death in my shoulders. Theres a video about his life btw (watch?v=A7Y0x-19rJ8). Yeah i know what its like, you´re not alone. Keep strong. (sorry for my english)
I'm very sorry for your loss. I watched the video. He wasn't much older than me and only a few years younger than my friend.
In spite of the tragic circumstances surrounding his death, I'm glad that something good resulted from it; his death facilitating your change of perspective and outlook on life. I wish you only the best.
@MolimoKuja You're disgusting. Does it make you feel good by insulting people who you've never even met? You and me have no idea of that persons life, and you claim that "Suicide is for the weak"? Please show some respect. Please don't try and steal the so-called "spotlight" for yourself over someone elses death.
@jybh012 I'm sorry for your loss...i don't know your friend but i'm sure he is happier somewhere beyond this rotten world.I wish i could find the long awaited peace.
@jybh012 That is really awful, man. It's cool to see you doing this in his memory, though. I hope my friends would do something to remember me if anything ever happened.
@jybh012 I don't usually say this for these types of attention-seeking comments, but the music is already sad enough, reading your comments actually made me so fucking down. Bless your friend :).
these "X is better than X" comments get so ridiculous. There's no rule book for music. There's no Olympic style standard to accomplish this or that in this amount of time or whatever. Music is amazing for that reason. Some prefer one thing, some another and there's always a musical form out there to meet that
I'll just say I've listened to Opeth nearly daily for 7 yrs. There is so much variety and color in their music that covers everything I want to hear. Ive never listened to Neco by choice
Of course, there are no olympic standarts for music, but e.g can you say that 50 Cent is good music? You CAN compare music by it's content, and what most people try to say is - Opeth is much more complex, musical, and there is "color" in their music. Opeth is listened by more experienced listeners. I don't find it in Necrophagist.
@anoblenate im myself i am a born again christain and as far as the real heavy holler music i dont really get into it very much. but my daughter introduced me to this group and im very glad she did. these guys are virtual musical geniuses. since my daughter and myself play it is a real blessing to share great music like this with her. i agree with your post. some folks are too close minded when it comes to great music!!
Opeth is truly an awesome band. Their skills are overally godlike and I really can't even compare other bands with 'em O_o Keep up the good work boys!
It's harder to make an atmosphere in a song than being technical.

This may sound a bit of personal opinion, but there's something good about Necrophagist. They're a good band to give you starter points on technical death metal. Usually Necro fans stick to Anata, Suffocation and Spawn of Possession later, eventually forsaking Necrophagist. But that's opinion.
opeth has another way too different to express theri ideas, they don t tell the hystory in their lyrics, their music have the real history, the fellings, and its says more than words
And once again, Opeth is more complex than Necrophagist. Necrophagist use songs with the same scale over and over. It's just an illusion because their songs are harder to play. It doesn't mean they're more complex and technical. Opeth use a lot of scales, jazz influenced rhythms on drums, groovy bass and extremely well thought lyrics and vocal passages combined with weird sound effects from time to time. Much harder to compose.
Id still say Necrophagist is more complex to play than Opeth. Opeth might have more complex composition, but phagist has bass solos and intricate fast drums too.
Necrophagist smashes Opeth in terms of technicality, it seems like you haven't even paid them a listen, they're insaneley technical. They're more technical than Opeth. Fact.

BoreanWolf 2 years ago 2
B/c they tromp Opeth to dust? >_>
lol just kidding.
But i do think Necrophagist is a lot more technical than Opeth
Henry14arsenal2007 2 years ago
Wankery =/= Technicality.
True technicality is to create an atmosphere, in case of Technical Death Metal, a chaotic and scary one. Necrophagist does not have such atmosphere.
Necrophagist has no atmosphere AT ALL.
Also, if you think Opeth is not technical, even more than necrophagist is, maybe you should check the tabs for Heil Apparent. :D
BoreanWolf 2 years ago 2
What are you talking. Necrophagist does have an atmopshere. Their atmosphere IS the technicality.
Also, having atmosphere doesnt imply technicality. Rammstein has shitton of atmopshere, but theyre not anywere near technical.
I didnt say Opeth is simple, i just said Necrophagis is more complex.
Henry14arsenal2007 2 years ago
It's harder to make an atmosphere in a song than being technical.

No.
Want emotional music go listen to some emocore or shit.
Necrophagist solos arouse tons of feelings, theyre insanely beautiful, and their riffs are hard, difficult to listen to AND catchy at the same time.
Henry14arsenal2007 2 years ago
...It doesn't work that way.
Emotional =/= Emo. Every songs have emotions, from anger to love, to fear, to sadness etc.
Does this song sound like emocore to you?
Can you deny it's feeling and emotion?
This may sound a bit of personal opinion, but there's something good about Necrophagist. They're a good band to give you starter points on technical death metal. Usually Necro fans stick to Anata, Suffocation and Spawn of Possession later, eventually forsaking Necrophagist. But that's opinion.
