  • Great video, exactly what I was looking for. How water proof is that material? I am thinking of using a Kelty Noah's Tarp 9

  • Cont: I saw the black circle but no loop. Just don't want to sew a loop on and have more puncture holes to seal if not necessary. Great vid, thanks!

  • I love this idea and just made my own for about $15. Love the versatility of this! Recently got into U.L. gear and am sewing my own with great success. I take my 6 year old son backpacking with me and so I have to be very weight conscious because he carries very little at this point! Plus I'm only 4' 10" so I can customize everything. My question: How are you suspending the center top? Is there a loop sticking out of the center or are you just gathering a bite and tying it up? I saw the bla

  • Did you film this with a chair?

  • I`m gonna try that with a 9X9 should be big enough for 2 and 3 bull mastiffs, great vid

  • Is that a catenary cut tarp or a regular flat tarp? Very good set-up/video either way!

  • thanks for showing these tarp setups ..... I've never seen them done before.... good one.

  • To call anything "best" is best considered foolishness.

I've set up a pyramid tarp from a rectangular nylon tarp that is cheaper and more simple than your "best" tarp.

You can find directions in 100-year-old Boy Scout manuals or figure it out for yourself.

  • Amazing! No need for a tent :D

  • Very cool tarp origami.

  • Good stuff! Thanks for the lesson!

  • it's ok but to say it's the best I don't thing so, any shelter that may save your life , that to me would be the best, you just have another good tarp set up.good job.

  • I know it wouldn't be equal but would this work with a tarp that is 5 x 7? This is by far the best tarp design I have seen on Youtube. Thanks.

  • @hillbillybushcraft My GI Poncho is about 5 1/2 X 7, and it works great with this set up- if you use a bivy sack. I let my foot end of my bivy sack stick out a bit. Setting it up is the same as a square tarp, with the two adjacent corners initially staked together. Though not quite equilateral, the pitch remains taught because of the equal tension on the stake out points and center point. Hope this helps.

  • Nice set up!

  • Awesome designs. Sounds great for sleeping underneath the stars. How do these tarp designs keep out rain from entering from below?

  • @jadethest0ne: With either the tarp shelter or a floored tent, your chances of staying dry in the rain depends most on where you pitch the shelter. Before setting it up, look at the lay of the land. Do not pitch it in lower ground where water can collect. A good idea is to pitch the "closed" corner of the shelter in the direction of the wind. That way water coming down at an angle hits a barrier and doesn't come into the living area. Hope that helps.
