What are you talking about? The Phillies LED the NL in runs scored and was second in homeruns. True, the Phillies' pitching could be better, but at least the offense was good enough to outslug the opposition's. Other than Santana, the Mutts have an aging Pedro (they better hope he could stay off the DL!), an even-older El Duque, Maine and Perez who could go either way (by the way, Perez SUCKED in the last couple months). And the Phillies haven't lost to the Mutts since June 30th.

Cole Hamels is the staff ace - and a young guy at that. He had a PERFECT game for 6+ innings over the summer (I was there), which the Phillies won. He could've easily won at least 18-20 games if he didn't get hurt, but again, he's young and will get stronger.

Brett Myers is pretty good too, and was actually filled in the closer role well.

Kyle Kendrick was a pleasant surprise who came out of nowhere.

Jamie Moyer may be old, but at least doesn't get rattled like many of the younger guys.

Actually...your beloved Sox have been acting like the "Evil Empire" for the past few years. They have the second-highest payroll in the majors - and as I mentioned a moment ago, *some* (not all) of their fans are becoming quite obnoxious. As in they are acting like they're "entitled" to a championship.

They have some good young guys, but also have been spending WAY too much money on free agents. Dice-K is a good pitcher, but *still* hasn't justified his ridiculous salary.

I've been rooting for most of the Asian players who crossed over to American major league baseball, ever since Hideo Nomo hit our shores over ten years ago. But unfortunately, it seems like Dice-K has been WAY overhyped (though not nearly as much as that "Fat Toad" Irabu) and overpaid. Decent pitcher, yes...but not worth the $100+ million to bring him to the States.
