Koji Igarashi now denies that it was sexism that motivated him to remove it from the timeline, but rather the fact that if Sonia has a child with Alucard, then effectively future Belmonts are descended from Dracula...which just seems kind of weird and would be hard for people to jive with.

Because the current head of the series, IGA, is sexist. His only reason for removing the game from the timeline is because, and I quote, 'No woman can be a Belmont hero'. He only sees women in games as nothing more than a sacrificial maiden to be rescued. Hoped working on Order of Ecclesia would of changed his mind about female main characters, but Legends is still not back.

Sexism aside, this was just a poor origin for both Dracula AND the Belmonts. Not to mention it made Dracula related to the Belmonts, it made him Trevor's Grandfather. joining the two families not only goes against Alucard's convictions, but it undermines the Belmont family. Theya re to always be opposed to Dracula, not join his family, and Alucard would never allow his cursed bloodline to be passed down to another.

Actually IGA is still sexist even though Order of Ecclesia featured a female protagonist but if you actually look again and actually played through the game and seen the ending you'll learn that the entire game is nothing more than a meaningless side story which made Shaona irrelevant and not remembered in the main series. I think people get a bit hung up on canon. The story weaved in Legends is more symbolic than a strict narrative. Dracula gave up his humanity, and became a pure force of darkness with no will of his own. The love of a human woman then subdued that darkness. After her death, their son confronted him. Then Sonja. Then their son, etc. In essence, it's that first love that continues to confront him. Alucard is just a link in that chain. It's more symbolic of the ongoing battle of light and darkness.

Part of the reason. Another is he believed in 'Alucard is Trevor's father' theory and didn't want the Belmonts related to their greatest enemy. Another is he wanted Trevor to be the FIRST Belmont to kill Dracula.

Lament of Innocence establishes what Dracula was like before he became what he is and his reason for becoming a vampire and eventual King of Darkness. And it also tells how the Belmont's signature weapon, Vampire Killer, came into existence.

More like Lament of Ignorance. And I liked the story of the Poltergeist King w/the Vampire Killer better. What Iga wants and what *WE* want are obviously two different things. I was perfectly happy...no...ecstatic about how this game basically began the story.

That is a good point, the major problem with your argument however is that the Castlevania series is far from being based on history. Occasionly the series makes references to medieval culture (The Church, Crusades, and Wallachia) yet in no way can this game be given the rank of being even "inspired" by history. Wasn't she supposed to be the first Belmont? I think Konami decided they couldn't have a gal figure as the first to fight Dracula so they had to bring out Lament of Innocence. Symphony of the Night will always be the best for me.

Sonia is the first Belmont to fight Dracula, since Leon didn't get the chance. They took her off the canon list because they SAY her giving birth to Trevor wouldn't fit in the timeline properly, but I see no real contradictions, and consider her canon as far as my own taste goes. Also, good to see the next DSvania will have a female lead.
