This is the most brilliant patriotic commercial ever made, coinciding with Reagan's reelection year no coincidence. The idea is that Liberty symbolizes America's returning confidence. The raised hand, historically to immigrants, shows we are sure of our freedoms. Glad the govt. isn't allowed to make commercials to make us loyal, this one shows how powerful they can be.
@pootao66 so true what you said, and yet its even more brilliant than that.. The jingle is totally gospel based, thus adding a religious reason to buy this deodorant. Most of the commercials in the 80's stood apart from the then current trends in music and favored gospel/musical type jingles. I wish some budding sociologist would write a paper on 80's commercials, they were so different from any other decade imo.
The singer is Jack Holmes, best known for his popular, "I'm a Pepper" jingle for Dr. Petter. The announcer is similar to Joe Sirola, but it is not Joe. I directed Joe in 1987 for a radio commercial promoting tourism in Los Angeles, There's another Sure TV spot of this campaign that definitely features the signature style of Joe Sirola, You can find it on YouTube. It has Ned Wilson on a horse, a woman cop directing traffic, and a class of graduating midshipmen throw their hats in the air.
@irvinetustin The singer is Jack Holmes, best known for his popular, "I'm a Pepper, he's a Pepper, she's a Pepper, wouldn't you like to be a Pepper too?"
You know what all people out there? Something seems to be missing from commercials these days. Today they seem so dull. Back in the 70's and 80's commercials were so much better. And I raise my hand cause I am sure to that!
Each year, thousands of animals die in Procter & Gamble laboratories -- the victims of painful, archaic and entirely unnecessary product tests. Caustic chemicals are forced into the eyes of rabbits and applied to animals' shaved and raw skin.
Laboratory workers place the animals in restraining devices so they cannot struggle while the workers apply the chemicals, which burn into the animals' eyes and skin.
Animals sometimes break their necks or backs attempting to escape the pain.
I'd been looking for this commercial for awhile. It certainly brings back memories of a much better time. They SURE don't make commercials like this anymore. Many thanks, elithecat.
$150,000.00 of RNC-used money might be able, you'd think she'd be grab a stick of this stuff for $1.49 to erase those embarrassing armpit stains on her clothes. Tsk.
Confident, confident, dry and secure..raise your hand, raise your hand if you're sure!!! LOL is this deodarant even around anymore?! Man, what good memories...

The man singing in this Sure commercial was singing on many of the commercials in the 80's. Does anyone know the singer's name?

The implication that Lady Liberty uses deodorant is brilliant marketing.
