Ah yes, the 80's. We had good looking women who didn't have the girl's of today's big guts and cellulite lower asses and upper thighs. None of us were overweight and our English was nearly perfect!
Spacy hard-rock ASIA. Dramatic verse and 'One word' chorus, GO! For me, 'Astra' is the best album of them. Voice of America, and After the War are also great songs. I don't know why the 'progressive' listeners don't like Astra.
Superb song. "Astra" is actually Asia's best album, better than the debut. Too bad it was released during the age of change. Mötley Crüe had released "Home Sweet Home" and hair metal was taking over from radio rock.
Wow, i found this video! This is the video the producers of the classic Anime "Bubblegum Crisis" showed to the character designer to show him the girl in the armor for inspiration. He then felt that his characters would be best off in full-armor hard-suits. The rest is Anime history!
The song is pretty trashy, like virtually everything Asia made after the first album, but the video is cool even though it was obviously made on a budget of about $20 and a pack of bubblegum. I particularly like the bicycle helmet and bondage gear worn by the main character.
Remember the world we lived in before the wall came down, this was a very dark album, The atmosphere went from inviting blue, to foreboding purple. Mandy Meyer was Asia's Trever Rabin. Steve is Ireplaceable, just my opinion
When I first saw the LP I said to myself how the heck this guy got the gig, but got it anyway as I like the other musicians. Once I listened to it I completely changed my mind. He may not be too famous, but he's a capable guitarist. This is a great (and underrated) ASIA LP.
I don't know, I kind of like the shower scene during the power chord break. Firstly yes, it's hot. Secondly, it does visually with the music and it's the only moment in the video that makes sense. I think if the whole video was simply of the woman showering and better shots of the band playing it would be much better. Seriously, the band shots are too dark. You'd think David Fincher directed this one.
Sci-fi concept was very much used in 80's clips; this one, "Mr.Roboto", Billy Ocean's "Loverboy" (they even used Star Wars Jawas on this one), "Wouldn't it be good"... Now it's all about bling and booty.
Too bad Steve Howe is no longer on guitar when this song and the album ASTRA came out. Still a great song, though. I love ASIA, I have all of their albums on CD.
I know this was released in 1985. I was referring to the year Asia released their first single. I meant they were a great band in 1982 when they first began, and are STILL great.
They were never intended to play soley progressive rock. They were more simply meant to have a BIG sound, with some influences from the progressive rock previously played, hence the name ASIA.
Neither was Trevor Rabin wth. People need to know their musicians haha. Just kidding some people have better things to do than listen to music and lift all day.
