  • Its all about respect, and she was respected, the troops on that day done HRH and the rest of us proud.

Some GREAT comments, my respect to the drummer who lost his life in 2007.

  • Awsome! Rule Britannia.

  • I camped overnight at Wesminster Abbey for Diana's funeral. No idea why, just felt I had to so I know how the mood would have been and this is absolutely spine tingling. Thanks for posting and God bless.

  • awsome

  • IN VICTOR.

  • The British Army was determined to send the Last Empress of India on her way in style that day. She would have been proud of them.

  • im gonna stick my neck out here ,but i think no country in the world has military like ours.....

  • @artman479 100% correct but you missed the fact that no other country in the World can do POMP AND PAGEANTRY AS WE BRITISH PROVE TIME AND TIME AGAIN !

  • The sounds of the bell of Big Ben rings and the pipers march of the Queen's mother funeral making Great Britian once again a powerful Empire of the past. With the Royal family marching slow near Westminster side doors heaven has opened their doors for the Royal sole of the Queen's mother to enter.

God save the British Empire and God Save the Queen.....

  • I have read somewhere that the King and Queen never left London during the blitz and that Buckingham Palace was hit.

  • I saw Smokey Smith VC buried in Vancouver a few years ago, thought that was something. But nothing like this. Amazing. No one does it like Great Britain.

  • Hitler described her as "The most dangerous woman in Europe" which at that time meant the world. For King George VI it can truly be said "Behind every sucsessful man is a good woman".

  • i have performed in many massed bands, this it THE best i have ever heard.

  • @happyg556 Me too, and I've piped these 2 tunes to bury people of every station. Elton John spoke of the challenge of playing his updated "Candle In the Wind" for Princess Diana's funeral -- all of us who play music at funerals and graveside appreciate the struggle to stay professional when we do the thing we most love, and it makes everyone else fall to pieces because of their loss. The sound you hear in this clip will never be heard again. More's the pity.

  • God Bless the Queen Mother, may she rest in peace, and forever be remembered

  • we know how to do things

    a proud brit

    RULE BRITANNIA

  • CANADIAN SHE WILLL BE MISSED... GOD SAVE THE QUEEN..!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great vid, but I wish they'd bring back the .303 for drill purposes.

  • Canadian here god save the Queen,,and those rowdy damn pipes, thank god for such an instrument, brings the good chills...

  • What an emotional sound that is... with the striking of the bell against the pipes... whoa

  • love the vid! the sound is just amazing!

  • this is sendinding shivers up the english cops spine

  • What tune is this?

  • The tune is "Oft in the Stilly Night" ... I can't think of a more haunting or beautiful tune appropriate for the Queen Mother and such a moment in history. She was deeply loved by her people. Since my grandpa was a proud Scotsman... I too, can't help but feel deeply moved by this amazing performance... by a never-to-be-seen-again group of pipers gathered for her remembrance. Amazing.

  • Perfectly poignant. After the Queen Mother's bier passes, the men lower their arms, ending their last salute. The bobbie at 2:13 looks like a young Sherlock Holmes, all business lest anyone usurp this moment of honor. The old duffer at 4:22 trying his best to keep step in spite of the infirmities of age was like Sir Grummore Grummursum at the end of _The Once and Future King_: still bravely questin'. Keep Churchill's bust handy, we want it back in the White House soon. GSTQ

  • my god the history of this blows my mind!!!!!

  • Even the horse's are in step. How amazingly British is that !!!!!!

  • The Queen Mother was Scottish and therefor a Celt ! She was not from England ! You Americans like your movies and lack of education think that Scotland is part of England ! May I suggest that if you are interested, check out "The Union of the Crowns" ! That is why the pipes and drums are played by the Scots and Irish Pipers in front of her coffin ! We live and learn ! Do we NOT !

  • from 1:43 is mist covered mountain

  • What's the name of the second tune?

  • Grand. Brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for sharing.

  • whats the name of the tune they are playing ?

  • this is the most breath taking show of bagpipes, God rest the queen mothers soul.

  • And the pipes called her hame

  • this is british to the back bone!!

  • @platoond Amen.

the Queen mum, IMHO, is perhaps 1 of Earth's greatest humans to ever live.

Coming from an American, says alot.

  • if britain keeps going the way they are,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they will loose this great identity...!!

  • @platoond I truly hope not, platoond. My Dad was a B-17 ball turret gunner during WWII. He had wonderful stories about the British people and the highest respect for them and their courage.

  • 3.10... that guy is hugh aha. Love it :)

  • why is there no royal marines?

  • @liam1997gbr Sound of bagpipe is used to send Queen Mother off. She is part Scottish. If you watch this year Trooping of the Colour, Scot Guard was trooping it and when they march off with sound of Scotland the Brave and black bear. you could see the Queen herself smile just for bit there.

  • @liam1997gbr

In the last few seconds of the video when the camera pans to the right you can see the Royal Marines.

  • @liam1997gbr The Royal Marines are Navy and they don't have Pipes and Drums *simples*

  • Wow.

My cousin was on the drums there, but unfortunately lost his life in 2007 in Iraq.

    RIP Christopher Casey &

RIP Queen elizabeth the queen mother.

  • @chavlad100 Sincere condolences to you and your families... a great honor for his service to your country and to have had at the Queen Mother's funeral... and to remembered in such way himself... better than any words can say.

  • @chavlad100

RIP Chris Casey, RIP, never forgotten, whas like us.

  • @chavlad100 God bless your cousin and all those who serve Crown & Country & the cause of liberty.

  • There is something about the pipes that resonates deep in the soul. There's a feeling of inevitability about them -- like walking the long road of history -- like the Queen Mother did -- and knowing that one must keep moving forward no matter what happens. I'm not a Scotswoman but I feel it strongly just the same.

  • What a video!

  • Britain's heart will never beat the same :/

  • God save England, and the Queen.

  • Of all the world's prominent persons, no one has ever said anything truly inappropriate about the Queen Mother.

    God Save the Queen.

  • What's that stick like thing some of them were holding in their right hand? Certainly not a pace stick.

  • Alas the passing of an age...A scottish lady who became a true royal with a common touch...I will remember her every time I taste gin

  • What makes it for me is the girl in the Union Jack. She is probably English, but she is hearing the pipes and still thinks it's British. and so it is !!!!!!

The Queen Mother was Scottish But the English loved her. That's what makes Britain GREAT.

  • always gives me goosebumps... thx for posting this.

  • No one does pomp and ceremony like the British

  • @justinBlast19 i didn´t see it.

  • thank you for sharing this.

  • Nice to see the Irish, Gurkhas and Toronto Scottish right up there at the front too

  • VIVE L'Angleterre et ses traditions

  • what is the number called they are playing?

  • what song is this:?

  • This farewell is stylish ... respectful ... impressive ... what else can I say ...

  • Breathtaking

  • Beautifull display of pipes and drums, makes me proud to be British!

  • @justinBlast19 you mean 4:20

  • good send off for a fine scottish lass

  • At my grandfathers funeral the drums Did the one bang every 3 seconds of his life. Along with playing my home.

  • Awsome the British do it right!!!

  • @flyfisher662 With a little help from the Irish, Canadian (Toronto?) and Gurkha contingents; but yeah, they can do the ceremonial

  • awesome

  • Alot of those regiments in that massed band don't exist anymore , literally centuries of tradition brought to an end by some civil servants.

  • @goatsawar02 The Gurhkas still exist as do the Royal Australia Regt. The Piper in the middle in the light Khaki colours. Your right, the Scottish Regitments have disappeared to suit the MOD

  • beautiful show of respect on every body's part

  • Oh, such dignity!

  • Very impressive almost spiritual. I fear that these events are the only things the British do really well.

  • Truly the Grandmother of the whole Commonwealth, God Bless the Queen Mother.

  • i was side druming in that, what an expierence!

  • This brings tears to my eyes just watching this :/ R.I.P Ma'am

  • Germany needs a monarchy... nothing contains so much pride and unity, and thats exactly what we need most

  • awesome i am learning to play the pipes and am wondering what tune they are playing because that is perfection

  • I also found this for accident. This is great.Beautiful.I'm from Chile, and all of our traditions or most of them, are from Spain. But i've always loved the sound of the pipes, even not being used to them. And the song is great too, i watched this same video but broadcasted in the news, and i think, but i'm not sure, that it's called"Last Song For The Queen"(or the King, being the case).Really beautiful.

  • This Irish-American tips his hat and bows his head in respect for the Queen Mother. May she rest in peace

  • i dont think that one single person marching in this vid including the royal family itself is out of step. truely amazing for a truely amazing person

  • Beautiful!

  • This is the most beautiful thing in the entire world! We all miss you mum! Rest in Peace and smile down upon us and your wonderful family! GOD BLESS!!

  • This makes me proud to be Scottish and Brittish

  • Like others who have commented, I am also an American deeply moved by this video....much love for the UK. God bless.

  • Britannia Forever.

  • I think its Fantastic. I've watched it dozens of times. The church bells in the back ground is awsome too.

  • American here. God Save the Queen.

  • @Jolmer7 God bless and keep safe America and all her citizens !

  • @Jolmer7 Hallo Jolmer and Best Wishes from the U.K

  • I am an American. Im damn proud of it! but i hold nothing against England or any other country. I must say that was a TRULY stunning performance.

  • @tommy192771 Britain .... She was a Scot.

  • A long and brilliant British tradition even in Royal Funerals...

  • What is this tune? Pls

  • God Bless MaM

  • god almighty i remember watching this on tv when i was a little kid

  • Very nice....rest in peace Queen Mother

  • Proud to be Scottish and to have the brave and loyal Gurkhas at our side.

    Respect

  • HOW COME IT SEEMS ALL THE BAND MEMBERS ARE IN KILTS EXCEPT FO THE ROW CLOSEST TO THE CAMERA...JUST WONDERING...

  • i keep returning to this vid every few weeks......its ,,,,,well you know.if you have any british dna in you. it touches it,

  • @ronsiris Im an Aussie with a Pommie dad, I always tease him, his comeback is i have british blood lol.

But the old bagpipes still make the hairs on my neck stand up

If Al Queda wants to have a go at us after I have been listening to some pipes i say BRING IT

  • only a true SCOTTISH pipes and drums sound as brilliant as they do here and only they can march and play in tune at all times although i respect pipe bands from abroad they will never in eternity beat the scots

  • this is true pipers at their best only scotland can play to this standard i have marched many many times behined pipe bands and nothing makes more prouder of my scottish heritage than marching behind the pipes and remember england has nothing to do with scotland ,ireland or wales we are individuly differant coutries

  • @halkburn yes you are correct.................we are different countries and we want to stay that way. However we are also proud to be British BUT not English or any other entitity that may dilute our differences. Sometimes thats gets fortgotton by the multicultural elites in London (Scots included)

  • the combinatioin of the bell at 25 makes it better

  • 14 dislikes !, why ?, god rest her

  • Regards from the United States. A truly amazing performance.

  • I like this video because it shows the importance of scottish heritage in the UK and London the capital of England............. Scotland can be proud that it still stands as an independent identity despite the pressure to sucuumb to English or 'British"" culture

The fact that this Scottish pipers march is actually happening in central London and for an Ënglish royalty is amazing - in cultural diversity we are stronger!

    We will prevail

  • @bc1050 Five things: 1.The Royals are descended from Mary Queen of Scots. 2. The Queen Mother, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was daughter of Lord Glamis, 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. 3. Of the five regiments of Foot Guards that guard HM the Queen, one is the Scots Guards Regiment. 4.These pipers are not all Scots: the pipers in green jackets and tan kilts are the Irish Guards . 5. Charles has a Scottish name and is "Lord of the Isles, High Steward of Scotland"

  • I've watched this video hundreds of times and have always wondered at the tradition behind that sliding step I see some of the soldiers doing. Does anyone know how it came about?

And I have to say it again..truly the most stirring video I have ever seen on youtube. Though an American, it does make me proud of my English and Scottish ancestry.

And to the 14 people who disliked this video my response is not one I can state here, but the words are very well chosen and clear in their meaning!

  • @harrier01 It is very hard to maintain a proper slow march, keep in step and not wobble. The slide maintains the rhythm of the march.

  • @harrier01 The step you refer to is actually called the "Slow March" as oppossed to the normal "Quick March".

It has been with all the UK forces Army Navy and Air Force for generations.

It is used many many times during all celebrations not just funerals.

Check out "Trooping The Colour" for more.

    Cheers from London !

  • Besides our language, any sense of God & Country, civility, honor or tradition

    came mostly from England

and not much of any of that is left in America outside of NEW England and the mid west.

  • This makes me proud to be Scottish but also damn proud to be British.

  • @MICKYMAVYT Hi its a shame that bc1050 does not see it your way, the queen mother was scottish not English a true scot and of scottish royalty not English,i am English and proud, and proud to be British like you but there always seems to be some one who wants to be different than the rest of us and drive a wedge betwwen us all, i do not know of any scottish town or city where us English are trying to push our culture on,weall have our own cultures be we are all British ?.

  • This has got to be the best version of going home i have ever seen.. Not one bagpipe or drums out of tune... Amazing

  • RULE BRITANNIA!!!!!!!!

  • I am very grateful to you for posting this very moving video.

  • No one beats the British when it comes to funerals. Wow. The pipes and drums are fantastic. I was amazed.

  • During a royal tour of Canada in 1939, Queen Elizabeth (then wife of George VI) was asked to settle a friendly dispute, was she a Scot b/c she was born in Scotland or was she English b/c she was married to an Englishman? She answered, "Since I have landed in Quebec, I think we can say 'I am a Canadian'".

She always seemed to say the right thing. She cemented the loyalty of Canada at a crucial time in history.

Rest in peace, mam, from Canada. You won our hearts!

  • I'm From U.S Maryland. This makes me feel my roots.. Its the heart beat of a great nation.. Queen mother may she rest in Peace.

  • even the friggin horses are in step amazing

  • How nice. Thanks for posting/

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN! Long may She Reign!! God Bless the UK and her Common wealth!

  • 14 people have no heart for Her Majesty The Queen Mother

  • This is the Funeral of the Late Queen Elizabeth II In 2002. For all those who are curious.

  • @Sigmarthetruthfull Actually it is the funeral of the late Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Windsor, nee Bowes-Lyon. Wife of King George VI and the mother of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

  • The last Royal Death was Queen Elizabeth II In 2002. This is the Funeral.

  • Not only are they brilliant musicians, do you want to fight them ? Do you really ? We Brits taught the world everything it knows, dont ever forget that.

  • Magnificent!

  • sounds wonderful...I love the bagpipes and their sound

  • I'm Irish, and a piper, though not a Loyalist. We Irish believe in a great send-off at a funeral and that was some send off!! I noticed the Irish regiment in there, (saffron - orange) and of course all the Scottish ones. It was both the Irish and Scots that used the pipes in battle. The British Army utalised this. We cannot continue to blame the living for the sins of our fathers - I'm for peace. And, respectfully, that is one of the best clips I've ever seen on youtube. The honour in it.

  • does anyone know what this lament is please?

  • @dkeith109a

at 1:10 they start Chi Mi Na Morbheanna (Mist Covered Mountains) and play that till the end.

    Fantastic tune

Please forgive my not having a keybord that alows correct accents on that

  • @dkeith109a 2 different tunes: 1st and last is "My Home" and the haunting 2nd piece is "Mist-Covered Mountains." There's an old 1950 Scots Guards recording of it on my youtube collection under dayepipes. Both these tunes are 6/8 tunes but for this event they're changed to 4/4 and I don't know the reason.

  • Wow. I'm not a Royalist but the sound of the pipes and drums touches me here.

In the UK we should have a ceremonies like this for every one of our boys and girls who die in conflicts overseas. It's such a terrible, terrible loss of young lives and every one should have their own lament.

  • never get bored of watching this brilliant video of a very sad day......the music is haunting......makes me so proud to be British and more importantly Scottish!........the British Army....nout comes close,be the best...we already are!

  • I never thought I would ever say this about a funeral, but that is one of the most beutaful things I have ever seen in my almost 24 years on this earth. Its a very touching site of history, honer, and tredistion. Cheers from America my Bristish brothers in arms!

  • ... note ... only the wealthy can afford massed pipers at their funeral ...

  • Such solemn but beautiful music is fitting. Millions of people miss the kind and cheerful Queen Mother. May God bless her departed Spirit and her many worthy descendants.

  • Why are they playing this? I'm not here to be rude or anything, the last royal death I could think of was Diana. I feel stupid for not knowing who this was for...

  • @Teknicide It was for the funeral of HM The Queen Mother.
