Scylla was once a water nymph whom was adored by a water god.Through the jealousy of another female (forget if its a nymph or some other type of goddess/creature) was poisoned and transformed into that creature. And as a side note Charybdis is a monster which would swallow the sea routinely. These two monsters were said to live adjacent to one another at a distance that you could not avoid both of them if you wished to cross. This created the phrase "Torn between Scylla and Charybdis"
This is one of many reasons I love Castlevania. It has many different types of mythological creatures from various cultures. There a lot of japanese demons (such as Arthroverta), some greek monsters (Scylla) and some german mythological creatures (Werewolf).
scylla means bitch(female dog) in greek,i guess thats why they named it that!

It comes from Greek Mythology, I don't remember what it was exactly, but it's usually pair with Charybdis.

It was Circe the witch that turned Scylla into that. She was the one who turned Odessius's men into pigs.
