I think if someone is really driven and focused in following your advices and knowledge this person will be able to play with anyone in the world. I mean it, because I have reached a point that I know what I still must learn and I guarantee that everything is there on your lessons. Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring!
Mr. Adam, i have had a look on many of your lessons. I am a intermediate player who has a lot of work to do, as I am still young (i'm 51)... I have to say to you that your videos and comments are made as if I had ordered them. You make it simple and direct ex to explain easy and complex things of this incredible musical instrument.
You still have not given a sense of where to START. only once a person has a general idea of the mouth and tongue work, is this useful. does anyone know where there is a lesson for someone who has never TOUCHED a harmonica, and has no clue whatsoever what to do.
Sir you have inspired me to learn the harmonica and take it as far as I can go. Should we cross paths one day I hope I have the skill to maybe have a jam session with you. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and pointing me in the right direction
just got my first harmonica! watched almost all videos without one lol. starting over now that i have one and cant wait to see where this journey takes me!
I dont know if you check videos anymore, but i just started playing...and i am having the most terrible difficulty ever learning how to do tongue block embouchure. Any tips, ideas, etc? PS,Mississippi boy here, live about 30 mins away from Meridian
@Aeiden Gussow and myself do tb this way; put the rim of the harmonica to where it presses against your teeth and make sure you are only covering four holes for a chord (the bottom 4 for example,) then stick the tongue out to where it completely covers the two middle holes of the 4 only. Blow out and you should hear the highest and lowest notes together creating harmony.
For the raw beginners like myself, don't buy anything cheaper than the Hohner Marine Band. I have and they are terrible, including the new Blues Bender. Pay the extra $9 and get something that is capable of doing what the Professor is telling you to do and practice.
I've watched many of Adams you tube vids and have enjoyed them all. I purchased the intro packet today and Wow what a tremendous value. For $17 you get alot of personalized and detailed instruction of how to get started in Blues Harmonica. You spend more for a Movie and popcorn. This will last for a lifetime. Get it and enjoy it.
Thanks Adam I'll be getting more advanced lessons as I progress.
This video is a great one for me. I've started to play blues harp a month or so ago (same time I started to watch your videos) and now I'll get the things I always wanted to know from the beginning in one video. Maybe I will check out now some of your videos for money.
Note to newbies: I've purchased five lessons from MBH and they are truly great value for your money. They are more detailed and focused than the YouTube stuff too. You'll find yourself referring back to them time and time again.
Even though this might be beyond the scope of a beginners discussion. I think John Popper (since you made reference to Blues Traveler) is a great harpist to listen to, especially in regards to his use of effects and amplification. Which, to me is it's own art form.
In addition, since you gig down here in the Tampa area frequently, so you know of any good instructors in the area?
This one is going into the bookmarks. It will be THE video or main thing in particular that I will recommend to anyone who asks how to get started with harp.
It's a perfect starting point to sorta lay out what to expect when someone is interested in playing harp.
excellent. I did get a harp for christmas from my best friend. he knew I wanted to play harp so he bought me a cheap off brand one, not bad for a beginning harp, but I am looking to buy a better one. But thank you very much, your videos help a lot!

i've ordered a Bb harp so that i can try to do the stuff from your first 40 or so videos. You do seem to use that key a lot.

Adam,
How do you go about cleaning the reeds on your marine bands? and how often, if ever, do you clean the reeds?
ewalden22 2 years ago
I never clean the reeds.

Great vid, but...
Hey Adam, why are you doin' your videos in your car on a quiet country road?
spec20dude 3 years ago
With my whole family on vacation and at home, it was the only quiet place.
KudzuRunner 3 years ago
That's O.K. I won't get worried about you until you start broadcasting from a downtown flop house with a neon sign blaring outside the window!
