I was there 5 ft. from the stage, many fans were pissed off yelling at Dave because he was so drunk he sounded like shit, dont blame them I was very dissapointed too after waiting two hours for them to hit the stage. There was 350,000 and listen how low the croud is responding, I know he redeemed him seld a couple of years ago but that was their prime an he really fucked it up that night.

Dave definitely imbibed a bit before the band came onstage. However, to be honest, this was a throwaway gig for them. The only reason they played this show was because they got $1.5 million just for showing up. They weren't on tour and this was before they started the sessions for "1984".

I love all Van Halen! Whether it be Dave or Sammy singing. But I have to say...Sammy would not put on a shit singing performance like that no matter what. Doesn't matter the venue, amount of people, none of it! He would give his all every night. This is just down right awful. But like I said, I love Dave as well.

Ed had it written way back, kept touting it to the band, no one liked it. He gave up & tagged it tot he end of 'Jump' (listen on the fade) eventually as standards dropped the band relented and went with it. The fact that a rejected song from the Roth era became a Stand out track in Hagar's speaks volumes.

I was a Jr In High school- Met the Band maybe a year earlier. I was so inspired by them I effed up the next few before I grew up and became a cop---Whatta crazy road we ALL take to get were we are going.

As Dave tol me years later "Problem with that is we never know when we arrived" Happy trails-
