Try stepping on the clutch if it goes away while your stepping on the clutch its from the clutch bearing.. Its not from the valve clearance tiburon is dohc w/ bucket
Tappet it means the valve clearance is self adjusting..
there aint timing chain on this 97 model, its the valve settings u need to re-set the height of the valve lift, in this case, the valve hit the piston a little bit by a millimeters. it wont do any harm onto the engine..i have the same exact problem..
I have the same sound coming from mine. The dual overhead cams are connected by a chain ($20) and is likely thlee culprit. I blew a head gasket on mine, so this weekend I'm putting on a rebuilt head, new timing belt, cam chains and water pump. I'll let you know if the sound goes away.
replace the exhaust manifold gasket. I had the same problem but that was what fixed it. If that doesn't help change the oil and replace the filter with a Hyundai filter. Our cars dont like cheap oil filters, or anything made my anyone other than hyundai for that matter
Use the screwdriver stethoscope method. Get a large screwdriver, put your ear to the handle end, then stick the tip on non moving parts to pin down where it's coming from.
i´ve got the same problem on my tib 2.0 2005. On first start up it sounds excactly de same, after about 10 minutes of driving it disapears, but around 2000 rpm getting of the acelarator it keeps sounding a bit, got me worried also..
126,000 miles-ish. She's pretty beat up. I think i need to replace the alternator, and it's slowly falling apart. Yayyy... I think she was in a front end collision, and i have a bit more to fix her up with.
Just needs a new front left spring, front n back bumpers, new right tail light, and the spoilers break light clips are almost all broken off. =\
my cusins car had the same problem it was the water pump and something to do with the belts being to tight and there snapping idk exactly but call or text me cusin and ask him about it 641-216-3111
