@shinevangie - you probably did, back in those days if you watch bar routines on here, with the absence of room between the bars the girls very often had to use upperbody strength and abdominal power to lift them to handstand as opposed to swing (just wasnt really possible)

Thank you for posting this-Nadia during the 1979 Euros-her triumphant comeback-and after she had physically matured. A little girl at Montreal and here she had blossomed into a lovely young woman-she had gained so much more power on her vaults too! I so wish I could see Nadia's AA competition at Euros-that was her shining moment imo-right up there with the Olympics since it showed her doubters she was back after her subpar 1978 Worlds and with a vengeance-in top form.

Yes it was very difficult to be a child in Romania when she was born in the 60's-90's. IT was either you competed in something and got a good education, or you worked and worked at small jobs while getting little education.

Tell you this, I'm very happy she chose competition. Plus it was the smart thing to do obviously.

Also, Shawn Johnson reminds me of Nadia. Because of how spunky she is during her floor routines.

Nadia trained in lesser conditions than USA, Uk, (WESTern gymnasts). In the EAST, she did not have quality/all-the Facilities like US, UK, etc gymnasts. Life was becoming HARDer and harder as she was growing up in Romania. But she got on with it, trained/worked hard DAILy, as well as studying (learning Maths, English, French, Italian..) Not her trainers but WESTern ones said: most WESTern GIRL-gymnasts are spolit, not committed enough, (even lazy?) that's why they doN'T make it 2 her level
