to be honest, this isn't that great, the shading is a little too abrupt. There is no smooth transition from dark to light and it makes it appear unnatural.....i'm not artist but that's what i think
Maybe many of you can't read..."for Beginners". The fundamentals of teaching a broad beginning course in anything is to reduce things to it's simplest form so that as many as possible can understand.
@sonictales69 If you call it a "white spot" you are talking to children, which is a complaint in some of the comments. It would be like calling, cross-hatching, "lines that go sideways and other lines that go sideways against eachother," it's just stupid.
This video is somewhat helpful, not entirely though. No one should be given bad remarks on their work, no one was made perfect. Thanks for the vid, keep posting more.
tired of youtube giving this kind of shit back again in my seach list... Stop calling yourself expert, or, review your video more than once before posting... Unbelievable!
WHAT!!??? Smudging pencil with your finger? The natural oils could ruin your drawing. Use a a qtip, tissue or brush to blend. Also if you have to smudge so much you really haven't learned how to use your pencil correctly.

I have no probelm with the way the end result looked on this vid, but reading through these comments points to some serious contention with the didactic & academic caliber of "expert VIllage" being not quite up to par...
First off, you might not want to listen to what she is doing. She didn't shade right, and she shouldn't soften so much of the circle. She was wrong in using her finger, then using an eraser to making this super white highlight that doesn't go with the softening. She also shades little parts of the shadow, which is wrong. She should shade with long parallel streaks so that the shading is mostly even, then she should go over in darker places of the shadow. -Kimmy, 14, CT
You know, i think its good to learn All diffrent ways of approaching drawing and art as a whole! thats why I love it, there are no rules, it incourages you to explore, and as well use your creativity for your own personal touch. she's only showing her approach and I respect that. it was still a very lovely drawing.
an artist will use every resource possible to express their perception. some of us are beyond techniques and guidelines apart from those we make for ourselves and then there are those who are by books. even the 'greats' knew when to discard their schools and when to incept their own ideal after all it is their view. pssh rules. you people went to school to follow rules, i went to break them and make all new ones. peace.
Like everyone else has commented! Expert should know better not to teach students to smudge their drawings with fingers. You can either use a tissue or a stump. By using our fingers, the object you draw will look greasily shiny due to the oil secreteed from our fingers. That's a very basic rule I taught my students! No fingers!!!!
Because it doesn't help. Expert village likes to be corporate, so all of their videos are supposed to be cute little quick "helpers" instead in in-depth guides. Expert Village has never helped me with anything.
