  • what was the second song that starts at 0:53?

  • @prasad604 Yeh Dil Aur Unki Nigahon Ke Saaye...

  • @vphukan thanks!

  • amazing voice amazing alaaps...wonderful

  • what a fantastic idea --this is stunning --how her voice just flows--- I was not able to recognise some of the alaaps- and which song they came from.

This is a labor of love --a great idea from

    vphukan ---thankyou very much.

  • Thanks pariapsara, i've a hundred more such alaaps but just don't get the time to put them together. glad to see people are still discovering this clip a year after it was put up :)

  • Very good idea, but u shud only have included songs with long 'aalaaps' and exluded the tid-bits- according to me. Thanks anyways, it's a blessing to hear Lata's voice always!

  • great clip thanks a million...

  • ...madam jee just "jamming" around with the most difficult raagas in her car, in her livingroom....just anywhere. It´s amazing what she can do with her voice. Also Lata jee and other great musicians/singers talk about her. It´s basically a Khairaaj-e-tehseem for madam jee.

  • Oh and I forgot! There´s a song called "Pankh hoti to urrh aati re" by Lata jee, it´s also a fave. And then also Asha Bhosle, listen to "Tere khayaalon mein hum" from the movie Geet gaya pattharon ne, it´s so haunting and truly truly out of this world!

If anyone´s interested, there´s this user here on the tube called MIR963 and he has uploaded these amazing documentaries of Malika Tarannum Noorjahan, called "Noor-e-jahan" and "A tribute to Noorjahan". It´s amazing and one gets to see...

  • Behno Bhabion liye izzat.....many things that we share and that we could talk about nicely instead of fighting on the net. I wish more Pakistanis and Indians were like Lata jee and Noorjahan jee: proud of their identity but still very honest and respectful to each other.

Btw...my personal faves of Lata jee are masterpieces like "Kahin deep jale", "Raseek Balma" and "Suniyo jee", she´s amazing!

    Wassalaam.

  • ...or tv-show, they never know any. Just one of my Indian friends said she liked some old dramas like Tanhaaiyan.

Anyway, I hope no one here misunderstand me because there are so many things I truly like about India, no seriously! I don´t like the new Bollywood though but I know that some of my Indian friends, esp the older aunties/uncles, don´t like it either. Because it´s not so Indian anymore. India has many beautiful things in their culture like "Buzurgon ke liye izzat"...

  • ..for a Pakistani one LOL! That´s how much Pakistanis love Indian music. However I recently saw an interview with Ali Azmat and he said that when Junoon went to India for a radio show, the presenter asked them to wish for a song. And when Junoon said "Sayonee", "Khudhi" and so on....they got the answer that it wasn´t allowed to play Pakistani music. This really shocked me and also made me sad. Come to think of it though...whenever I ask my Indian friends about any of our stars, music or...

  • I think normal people, meaning not the corrupt politicians in both countries, feel the same about many things. Also, about Noorjahan jee...I love her voice and I truly deeply admire her. Unfortunately, her voice DID change a bit and got rough like you said, in older days. Maybe due to the cancer. But if you listen to her songs from her youth, middle-age, you´ll inshallah be amazed.

You know, I listen a lot to Pakistani radio and they play soooo much Indian music that one has to wait...

  • Great work phoukan da....lajawaab ...waiting for second part...

  • Such a good idea and a superb compilation of a truly ethereal singer.

PS: i reallly wish that the trend and ensuing competition among music directors to get her sing in progressively higher pitches NEVER HAPPENED. In her low and normal registers, she can give any celestial singer a run for his/her money

  • Thanks Prakar, I fully agree. I blame it all on Shankar Jaikishan.

  • @vphukan this is tooooooooooooooooooo ggod...

  • suniyo ji,,,,,

  • Wah! Lata's voice is indeed heaven!!!

  • Lata was always owned by Rafi Sahab. She didn't know what to do...so in confusion she didn't get married!!!

  • great job

  • thanks, this is a treat for all the queen of melody's fans. your collage proves that she will always besides being the queen of melody was also the queen of AALAAP - she doesnt need words to convey melody and feelings be it sad or joyful heres the proof

  • This is really wonderful, vphukan!

No Lata fan should miss this assimination

  • i'm from malaysia..sometime when i heard india song play in radio or tv firstly i will turn it off but i'm really enjoyed ur video...great vocal...well done and thankyou so much!!!

  • Thanks waiyuanleong - i hope you continue to find more Indian music that you like :))

  • Thank you for this very unique and I'm sure very time consuming piece of work you have done here...great job.

  • Cheerssssssss..

  • I am sure everybody will agree that no singer, male or female, living or dead come close to Lata. I know this is a very bold statement but I stand by it.

  • it is bold, but i think that you're probably right.

i think its tough to compare male and female singers, but lataji is the greatest female singer to have ever lived and that is a fact.

  • Agreed, she is a legend, but I think your statements down play Noor Jehan's status, which Lata ji herself held in the highest respect. It was her and Rafi...

  • I think Lata has one of the greatest repertoires in history considering the way she had most of the best composers across two generations reserving their best for her. However, music enjoys a great diversity, so many singing styles - think of Amonkar, Kolsoum, Piaf, Callas, the other great divas.. you can't single out any of them as the greatest ever.

  • in my opinion though, noor jehan was not a very good singer. she was obviously technically strong, much like lataji. however, i simply detest her voice. it is too rough and unfeminine by my tastes. however, noor jehan is indeed a good singer, but to me, not comparable to some of the other greats.

  • Assalaam aleikum and Namaste you all! First of all Vphukan, thank you so so much for this video. I´m Pakistani and like most other Pakistanis, I´m completely in love with Lata-jis voice. It DOES seem heavenly like someone here stated.

Cricketlover...please don´t misunderstand me my friend. You are totally entitled to your opinion and like many other youtube videos, I don´t want to start some Pak/Ind discussion here. But mere bhai...if I may: can I suggest you some songs of Madam Noorjahan?

  • Please type in "Kalavati by Ustaad Amanat Ali Khan and madam Noorjahan" in the searchbox, after that type in "Kahan tak suno ge". Please brother, don´t misunderstand me, I just love Madam jee and would love everyone to listen to her. And Lata jee of course! Two things that make me love these two great personalities beside their voices is their humbleness. I´ve seen so many interviews with them in which both of them are speaking very lovingly about each other. I wish more peole realised this..

  • I second it !!

Tears come to my eyes when I hear voice.

  • Great vocals. Thanks. One can organise a quiz.

  • great job this edition! congrats!
