I feel for ya. I've trained a few like this and currently have one similar. A positive way of thinking about it is when you finally get a good ride it's worth soo much! Good luck and I'm sure she really appreciates your working with her and not giving her away as a "can of dog food" whether she always shows it or not. Maybe one day in return she will realize you won't give up and be the best darn mare out there.

Just give her a bit of time and see how she goes and if she is still bad then drastic action needs to be taken !! ( it could be the stress of a different rider and if she has moved farm she could be unfamiliar with it)

my boy used to have the same problem with contact. his wasn't so extreme but he would plant himself and not move. what worked for me, was keeping constant but light contact on my outside rein, and then kind of playing with my inside rein, sponging your hand works really well. once he dropped his head i kept the light contact but quit moving my hands. we've been together for almost 4 months, and he's done nothing but improve. it worked wonders for him! good luck with her!!!! :)

Well, not being a "crit" but when he rears lock your hand by your kneees. like proper lock. And when she does it with the other horse she was really close to they grey ones arse. If she does that then keep taking her in circles, The if you can still feel her going to rear and cant lock your arms. kick on. And if shr does rear. Punish her instantly.

Blade used to be exactly the same, he was so dangerous to ride, it took me a year and he can still give me a good try when he feels like it, but he used to rear for apparently no reason, bolt, flybuck, but we just did lots and lots of flatwork and hung on tight, and it finally got through to him that there was no need

You seem to be the only one who can get throguh to her, so stick to your guns and hang on tight, she'll come round xx :)

She'll get over it eventually, and it probably doesnt feel like it atm, but as you put in your description, she can be amazing sometimes! And the more you keep trying, the better she'll get.

i have always felt that when u groom a horse u need to not just go throught the motions, because if they trust u and behave for u when they r being groomed, most of the time not always they r better when u ride them. it depends on the horse, but i ride this horse where u have to be firm with him or he gets nervious and throwns u, so try riding with different rein lengths. also when u ride act like she is a perfect horse every time you ride if you expect her to b bad she will be. hope this helps.

TJ was simply a twat when i had hi,

He had good reason to be considering his past but he drove me round the bend.

He would do literally anything to avoid doing what i asked, he was constantly trying to tell me i was boss & got to the point where i felt sick getting on him.

It took me abaout 18months to get the basics..But trust me, its soooo worth it when you get it!!

i had had about 8 lessons when i had TJ & i managed it,, Your a great rider.. Will be easy for you!!

Okay, we ALL have bad days. Like I said, Teddy pushes me right to the limit and sometimes im just like so upset and peed off at him for not doing EXACTLY what I want him to do.
