  • I fucking love Stephen Fry!

  • Stephen Fry talking at 04:27 :D love that guy.

  • that guy just got a little bit of fry

  • @tedwilli9 Welldone, It is Stephen Fry.

  • Two things strike me, maybe three: 1) The astronomers are trying to explain astrology, but these are two different subjects that only resemble one another superficially. 2) Astrology can fail for the same reason technology can fail, i.e., its practitioners may only imperfectly understand or implement the principles that drive it. Does every airplane prototype fly? No. Therefore, airplanes don't work! 3) Randi ignores inconvenient correlations. Note that he says to "try hard" to find meaning.

  • @licensedtolive agreed

  • @licensedtolive If an astrologer could demonstrate even once that they are correct within a provable margin... well no I want more than a lucky guess, they would have to be right often. And what inconvenient correlation has he ignored? Oh and reason we have working airplanes is because unlike the supernatural the tests and research for air planes yielded results.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 There are levels of difficulty across all technologies. It is easier to build a bicycle, for instance, than a glider; easier to build a glider than an airplane. Have all people everywhere been able to build the airplane? No. If you want to get the wrong answers to astrology, just gather together people who don't fully understand it. If you want to get the wrong answers to an airplane, just gather together people who have never built one.

  • @licensedtolive is it impossible for non-builders to figure out who can build an airplane? No, we can test people to see if they know what they're talking about. Such is not the case with the supernatural. I'm not saying it's impossible but I will claim that we've never seen a horescope that is given on the spot and that is unique to the individual. The fact that both can fail doesn't mean that since one can be proven the other is true.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 It is not impossible for non-builders to build an airplane, and it is possible to test their knowledge, only after the laws of aerodynamics are understood. You are presuming a priori that such laws don't exist for astrology, only because you don't possess the knowledge of such laws. Maybe they are too complex, or maybe we are not asking people who know them well enough to test them.

  • @licensedtolive person A makes the claim in times prior to knowledge of flight. Person A demonstrates claim to be true. People experiment off of this and discover knowledge of flight. person B makes the claim in times prior to knowledge of astrology. Person B cannot demonstrate any claims to be true. People laugh at the idea. People invest in ideas that show results. Even without proof of all the laws if you can move an inch you can get a mile hence our current progress.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 Look at the phenomena of astrology as occurring within the boundaries of physical laws. If this universe is constrained by physical laws, with some randomness, then we should be able to predict all kinds of extraterrestrial behavior, within error. It makes sense that to some degree these same rules apply to organisms, and even human behavior. Randi is justified, but he cleverly tends toward subjective and biased interpretations of results if he can.

  • @licensedtolive I don't agree with the randomness part. And there is no reason to assume humans have the capability to predict all phenomenon especially at this point in technology, or at any time. All interpretation is to some degree subjective. I don't think he's especially biased for pointing out that no one can ever seem to navigate this field with a degree of certainty much higher than just guessing.

  • Comment removed

  • @licensedtolive Uh... no it doesn't? I mean you can give me a link or something but I don't think it proves genuine randomness and not just our inability to fully understand particles. And find me someone who can represent astrology. Find me someone who can do objective tests and come to a representable conclusion. if not then quit wasting my time for essentially not finding santa claus so i can disprove his existence.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 You said you don't believe in randomness, and I pointed to Brownian movement as a demonstration of randomness. You hardly need me to "give you a link" to look up Brownian movement, as it is a part of every basic Physics course. If you choose not to look it up for yourself, then you're no better than the religionist who chooses to ignore evidence of evolution, and proclaim there is "no evidence". As for your statement about Santa Claus...Huh???

  • @licensedtolive i did look it up and my confusion is based on the fact that it doesn't prove randomness merely claims it's existence without explaining it. Pointing to a rule that uses randomness doesn't prove that randomness is a real law. And the santa claus thing... You claim that randi only picks charlatans and never the real deal. Well find us a real deal that will do the experiments. That's all it takes.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 If we follow your reasoning, we might say proof doesn't exist for order or randomness, because just because we can observe what appears to be order, maybe it is only a grand coincidence. I'm having trouble understanding why, if we can repeat examples of randomness (and Brownian movement experiments are repeated in every college lab), why a hypothesis of randomness is weak. Recall that gravity is also a theory, with multiple explanations.

  • @licensedtolive I'm not saying that there is no proof i'm saying you aren't providing it. If i ask for evidence of gravity and all you give me is a formula that makes use of the force itself then you still haven't provided evidence for gravity. Give me actual evidence.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 You're asking me to prove gravity? You're asking me to give you evidence that gravity exists???

  • @licensedtolive evidence of randomness... not gravity. Never have i been shown any evidence for randomness. Gravity was a metaphor. Brownian movement is a system that explains that particles don't move perfectly based on the predicted model. Give me evidence of randomness specifically.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 You keep changing the topic. See two posts above, you did, indeed, ask for evidence of gravity. True randomness is probably harder to demonstrate, but your criticism of the existence of randomness, in an ironic way, brings me back to my assertion that there is a physical basis for astrology.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 For evidence of the existence of gravity, I would start with Newton's apple, and work your way up from there. For evidence of randomness, I would ask this question: If it were not for randomness, why is mass in the universe distributed so unevenly? Shouldn't a "Big Bang", assuming all conditions are equal, result in the perfectly even distribution of mass?

  • @licensedtolive I haven't changed the topic and I already explained that gravity was a place holder. I said IF i asked for evidence of gravity. Then i asked for evidence meaning of the topic we were discussing. Learn to read and quit making stupid assertions when the words are available for you to resource.

The topic is still whether or not astrology has a case. I've stayed on that point by pointing out that it has failed compared to other fields.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 Gravity as a placeholder, but so what? You're saying the phenomenon doesn't exist? That the apple falling toward earth isn't real because gravity is only a metaphor for processes we don't really understand? As for individuals knowledgeable about astrology, if they don't exist, does that prove astrological effects don't exist? Would you say that tides and crops correlate with lunar phases? Then, isn't that rationale extendible to the rest of the galaxy?

  • @licensedtolive I don't know why the universe is distributed unevenly... there could be any number of forces we aren't aware of pulling at the universe. Asserting randomness requires proof of randomness. Should a "big bang" distribute things evenly? Why should it have to? Do you fully understand every aspect of the theory?

Ask away. I don't need answers to call an assertion unsupported. Like astrology. State your claims, provide evidence or we don't buy it.

  • @ebonmaskarade77 "any number of forces"...interesting. The flaw in your line of reasoning. Forces of which you aren't aware, can't measure but we know they are there. We can't no more reproduce the effects of the Big Bang than you are demanding that I reproduce the effects of astrology. Yet, there they are, big old Jupiter, little old Mercury, and a whole bunch of galaxies that are each different from the other.

  • @licensedtolive If you wanna win, just give me an accredited expert who could have shown randi up if given the opportunity. If you can't give me that then where's the bias? If every astrologer is faulty then the idea of astrology is faulty. If nearly every astrologer is faulty then he's pulling from the majority, which isn't as bias as bringing in the fringe. If he was grabbing the fringes the then real articles are awfully soft spoken.

  • At 4:45 the man sitting next to the guy talking is none other than the british actor who plays Dr House on the epynomous show "House."

  • @Garrettec I thought so!!!!!

  • @Garrettec

*facepalm* the guy talking is Stephen Fry and he's Laurie's friend and they did a lot of shows together

  • @alexgrinkov is that important ??

  • I love how Hugh Laurie is looking quiet and withdrawn while Fry goes into full swing. "Oh, there he goes. Let's get comfy, he'll be a minute."

  • The guy at 3:40 knows how it goes.

  • What the Black astronomer said was correct, but not to the degree astrologers exploit.

But every particle is related to the next, and so on. In this way Everything is connected directly to one another, not indirectly. The Human to the Earth, the Earth to the Sun, the Sun to the Solar system and Galaxy, etc.

Our Earth's science is directly related to the Universal science, the displacement of other stars and solar systems have direct effect on us. Our Human patterns are linked to Universal ones

  • Dr House @4:24

  • this show is a fucking bloodbath, Randi didnt even have to do anything, the psychics embarrassed THEMSELVES

  • Randi man is interested in Uranus...

  • Jupiter's gone into Orion, and come into conjunction with Mars

Saturn is wheeling across infinite space to it's pre-ordained place in the stars

And I gaze at the planets in wonder

At the trouble and time they spend

All to warn me to be careful

    In dealings involving a friend.

  • WTF? House(Hugh Laurie) is sitting next to Fry?

  • @erikberlin - Because for years they were a comedy double act, for example;

    /watch?v=U8ko2nCk_hE

  • @erikberlin They were together for two series: A Bit of Fry and Laurie; and Jeeves and Wooster. They were also on a lot of Blackadder together. Great duo!

  • According to astrology one guy's a pimp and another guy is alone.

  • Stephen Fry is the man.

  • The P.T Barnum effect ehh... sheds some light on why people view their personalities/fates in such generic or stock fashions. Are you ESTP... why no I am ISTP and I on the other hand am CRAP... personality tests, astrology, and other specious pseudoscientific phenomena should be examined critically. Argumento ad populum, appeals to ignorance, and wilful ignorance are usually the bedrock of arguments in favor of such things... often without evidence too. At any rate, Randi Rocks!

  • Stephen Fry knows House

    trollface.jpg

  • Who are the beetle looking Atheist!

  • James Randi can he have 1 credit :( :( :(

  • steven fry is awesome

  • Jeeves!

  • 5 people are arrogant pricks who think the universe was put there just for them.

  • a young stephen fry?

  • Did i just see Q from star trek TNG?

  • I LOVE BAGPIPES!!!!!!!!!

  • at 4:30 is that "House" sitting to that gentleman's right??? House is a known magician.. I am a member of SOMF and House is also...it sure looks like him.. and it would make lots of sense for him to be an observer at the time this show was aired considering his practice in regards to the arts..

  • @legacy917 It's his twin brother, Bungalow.

  • @legacy917 Hugh Laurie was only there because James Randi invited him to participate in one of the experiments. He had an astrologer check Hugh Laurie's horoscope (but he didn't tell him which audience member it was) and it turned out that it was wrong.

  • Like little lambs lining up to Randi's Slaughterhouse.

  • haha yea

  • The doctor pulling you out of your mums vagina has more gravitational influence on you than any planet in the solar system.

  • how come derren brown is absent?

  • @entaroduai He was probably still at high school when this show was made.

  • mr Fry pwns pseudo science

  • Stephen Fry is my god

  • 1:05 "you are diplomatic as long as you get your own way" oh please..

  • @bearshave Same thing I thought about that particular line. How common do the star sign reading things have to be before people realize they apply to anyone and everyone?

  • the first lady is weird

  • @devpunk93 Try reading her books - nothing but horses and bedroom-olympics

  • LOL 9:04 "no matter what sign you are you really ought to be able to get on with them"

    pointless in her own words...

  • Is that House sitting next to Stephen Fry??

  • @squirreljester2 yeah

  • @squirreljester2 Yes - Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry were comedy partners for years. See "Blackadder", "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" and their Jeeves and Wooster (can't remember the title) Genius.

  • @jon1156 Holy crap!! I didn't know they were in Black Adder! Now I'm gonna have to go back and watch those. I used to watch those back in the day when they replayed them on TV here in the US.

  • @squirreljester2

It is indeed Hugh Laurie..who happens to have been Fry's best friend since they were at University together. Just a sidenote.

  • James Randi and Stephen Fry in the same show. I think I just climaxed.

  • 4:24- That looks translates as "BULLSHITTTTTTTTT!" :P

  • more people need to be like fry, and i 100% agree about the mediums those people should just get shot for pretending to talk to the dead and ruining peoples last memories of there friends/family

  • Steven Fry owns.

  • House is NOT amused. Any other argument is irrelevant.

  • House!

  • Is that Hugh Laurie sitting there beside Steven Fry? He has an expression on his face like: "Oh, boy, there goes Steve again. Off on a rant."

  • Stephen Fry can pwn anyone in an intelligent debate, especially if the other person defends magical claims.

  • You go Stephen Fry!

I love that man! Hugh, too.

  • Haha so didnt think i'd see fry on here, Stephen > them assholes and their sky magic.

    ~Josh

  • One has to admit, the quack did an excellent job with his astrological reading, especially the second reading was fantastic!

  • Well, this is all good fun, but I don't have to watch this show to know every little trick used here. If you have friends who believe this nonsense so it to them, but for me that's it.

  • Stephen Fry is spot on.

  • Fry ANNIHILATED the astrologer.

  • I never understood all this "compatible signs" stuff. If two people want to fuck, who cares what month they were born in?

  • @666brandon666 well if you are only looking for a summer girlfriend better to pick an aguarius, capricorn or sagitaurius, that way you won't ever have to aknowlege their birthdays like get them a present blah blah blah etc etc

  • @666brandon666 maybe someone who's more compatible to you may be a better fuck than someone who isn't

  • @666brandon666 People crave something out of the ordinary, and it seems the human species takes first price in looking in all the wrong places...

  • @666brandon666 LOL, LOL, LOL three hours later I'm still laughing.

  • @666brandon666 fucking without proper knowing each other is damaging.

  • @666brandon666

Whether they were born in October '95 or December '95 would make a big difference ;)

  • @666brandon666 or 3

  • Technological advancements are a little difference to zodiacs and ghosts

  • OMG its HOUSE!!!

  • lol hahahaha

  • One challenger claimed to be able to read vinyl records and identify the music, not psychically, but by looking at the grooves. When tested, he did indeed manage it.

So anyone can be surprised, as I'd assume Randi would be, witnessing a skill like that.

I thought this performer or astrologist deserved a fair shake. Through luck, skill at identifying a character, or real interpretation (?), he gave a very accurate reading. It would apply much better to any stage actor than, say, to me.

  • im with Fry all the way here

  • and when, pray tell, is james randi proven wrong? has there ever been any scientific study that has proven anything he investigates right? i should say not.

  • He hasn't been proved wrong...

  • Haha, cannot believe Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie and sitting in the audience! :D <3

  • its like 20 years old

  • I love this show!

BTW, Anyone know why thespiritconnect is hosting these videos?!

  • relative or randi's?

  • She said something along the lines of, whatever sign you are, you should be able to get along. Then what fucking purpose does your bullshit serve other than to line your thieving pockets with ill gotten gains.

  • @FretNinja ya wtf haha.. some people are such con artists.

  • Randi is a real joker

  • go Stephen!

    go Stephen!

    go Stephen!!

  • Stephen Fry just let loose on that guy, and was still classy when he did it :)

  • go stephen!

  • jukebox, intelligence does not correlate to eloquence at all. some of the dumbest people i know are quite verbose, and conversely, the smartest people i've known can be very reticent...and may resort to slangs.

and this audience isn't articulate at all. they just speak very fast, which only suggests fluency and spontaneity.

also, you're the kind of shallow-thinking, abject moron that james randi has been battling for decades. how can the responses of a tiny audience sway your opinion?

  • House is sitting next to Stephen Fry

  • LOL

Hugh Laurie looks hilarious with that hair

  • I'm impressed by how lucid and well spoken this British audience is. I'm afraid that if this had been filmed in my country (the U.S.) we'd see an assembly line of dimwits who can barely get out a full sentence without laughing or using some awful, modern slang. TV audiences in this country embarrass me.

  • Same idea with less words= more efficient communication in my opinion.

  • Stephen Fry is a new hero of mine - for this even more than his roll in "Bones" :)

  • James Randi is God, and Stephen Fry is the Messiah!

  • Stephen Fry > Google

  • @zeratul1987 Stepehn Fry > God. Also if Stephen Fry calls what you believe Bullshit then it Bullshit and there is no counter argument.

  • Dr Percy Seymour is an excellent astronomer, but I feel he is being overly kind in this instance. He is indeed correct, as usual - it does affect all manor of species on the earth.

However, I think he's being too kind when comparing such interesting and meaningful scientific evidence and opinion to such specious bullshit.

  • lies all lies i tell ya!!!!!!

  • FMSUNICORN Thank you for your information regarding Mr Fry. If he is correct, He could stand outside Buckingham Palace saying bad words nicely and clearly for everyone to hear without being moved on, or, for example, when being introduced to your mother, he could say "xxxxxxxxx lovely to meet you" Instead of "delighted to meet you" Do you not agree? Best wishes from Corporal Parts. I've been promoted!.

  • Fry's speech was absolutely WONDERFUL. The astronomer, I think, is being very kind when he mentions the effects of radiation.

The psychologist is incredibly wrong. In terms of the scientific process that we are well aware of through the philosophical notion of the scientific process, and why humans require a scientific process.

You can implement a scientific process in checking if dog shit is the source of the Higgs boson, but it doesn't mean that what it constitutes is a science itself.

  • From the horoscope:

"You're diplomatic as long as you get your own way." Oxymoron alert.

  • They're marked hide because the people hear don't really like you, and gave your posts thumbs down.

Regardless, I have to ask why you think Randi's experiment is biased. He neither supports nor refutes Astrology. He simply creates an experiment which, in this case, actually supported Astrology, and then allowed some experts to give their thoughts.

  • You obviously haven't heard Fry's views on swearing, and how he believes it is the people who abhor swearwords who are smallminded, and that the occasional swearword spices language up.

  • Whats going on. I'm trying to watch the video in order, but it seems to jump. Part 4 did not follow on from part 3! I had to jump to part 5 to get abck on track!

  • asstrology

  • So he's a leo, it all makes sense now, they THINK they know it all!!

  • Do you actually believe in Astrology? Or do you just hate James Randi?

  • But a scientist needs to be closed minded to a degree, so their head isn't full of BS.

Randi is only narrow minded because he hasn't seen anything supernatural. If someone pointed to a rock on live TV, and made it float or turn into a golden egg, it would be undeniable. A scientist needs to be open, but not open to ridiculous stupid BS, that is, until it's proven.

  • You critisize his views and opinions not his methods. Tell us one single example in which Randi has clearly used a test which has not allowed a fair chance for the clowns to prove themselves.

  • NOTICE how you MAKE THINGS IN CAPS because YOUR NEED TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE SEE THE MAINS POINTS IS OVERKILL. Notice how YOU'RE a DOUCHEBAG.

  • That must be Noah's forgotten submarine then - HA!

  • it WOULD explain how he fitted 31k species and their food for a year, on the arch

  • Fry & Laurie! =D

  • Part 4 is gone idiot.

  • Is Doctor House next to Stepehen Fry?

  • thats what i sadi in the last video looks like hugh lorie lol

  • It IS Hugh Lorie. He's been big in the U.K. for years.

  • Stephen Fry was, and is, a British national treasure...long may it continue!

  • thespiritconnect is lazy. It's been half a year, and still hasn't reuploaded part 4. I'll see what I can do about getting a hold of this show. And maybe even upload them all in better quality too. If anyone can help me, plz message.

  • This is great. I love a bit of Fry and Laurie!

  • Indeed. Reupload part 4!

  • ahh, stephen fry, what a great man:D

what happened with part 4? it seems to go back to an earlier part?!?!
