  • this is really lame interview to say the least. if you can say something nice dont say it at all you loser!!

  • Ferrari is both a good and bad idea. I'll tell you why. Good : More fuel economy. Bad : More expensive. But if I had the money, I would take the hybrid.

  • someone want to chat

    i liked this video :) 4N

  • ANYONE UP? I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO

    this video was good 88

  • Ferrari?yes, yes they do..

  • I'm all for any hybrid. that includes Ferrari.

and it's not just the fuel savings, but ease of driving. it's just a good idea that will have to be lived and loved, and you'll wonder why you fought it at all.

  • yes i will buy a Ferrari like that.

  • 20 year wait for Top Gear? I waited a year to get my tickets. Fucking redneck Americans.

  • cool 太正了

  • I think as long Ferrari tries to make a car go as fast as it can with as much style as it allways has it's fine if they move on to new technology such as a hybrid.. But only in purpose of better preformance and not marketing.

  • A hybrid might encourage Ferrari owners to drive their cards more regularly. Nothing in my experience with cars kills lines, seals etc more then sitting in a garage. I know of at least on blown Ferrari engine that left its guts on its first time on track after sitting years in the garage by the previous owner. Johnson seems like a no BS bloke ,this ep was pretty good.

  • Fuck this! That comment was so not right saying europeans are poor!

  • You completely misunderstood the comment. He meant that, to American buyers small cars are "for poor people," meaning they've been traditionally sold as cheap, economy cars, whereas Europeans will buy higher-priced small cars more readily because they don't have the same stigma over there. The Mini Cooper is really the first higher-priced small car to do well in the US.

  • You guys have fun with your little Prius'

I'd rather buy a big car for half the price and have the dealership pay for my gas. IE-Dodge's 2.99 gas gaurantee.

As far as big engines...Im fine with a V6. Give me something I kind peel out with and I'm fine. I hated when I had my old Cavalier. I'd get mad at my gf and would try to peel out when I left....but it never would. I would try 3 or 4 times...nothing. Man that car was a POS

  • Where are the bikini babes? I saw them as a still for this video.

  • yeaa dude were are theyy>?

  • 8:28

  • 8:28

  • yous of eua is brasil os bebos the youtube good+++

  • wow you guys know WAY more about cars then i will ever know. all i know is it has a motor, doors, tires, a hood plus a muffler. so you guys are way over my head.. but good show..

  • 10 bucks says ford finds a way to fuck up the focus before they let the American public have it, my bro in law has a focus and it's a great car that goes really well and handles great.

  • Great guest! absolutely loved his personality and attitude! He's a keeper. Definitely have him on more often!

  • Good Vid

  • Im curious why aren't car company's looking into six stroke engines because in my opinion they are the way forward because you are harnessing lost energy (heat) and they perform better since they have a second power stroke and have no need for a cooling system.

  • I may sound stupid here, but I've never even heard of a six-stroke engine. Care to elaborate?

  • a six stroke engine is same as a 4 stroke but it has 2 additional strokes and these 2 inject water into the cylinder that vaporises and then giving you an additional power stroke but using no fuel to do it and this way it harnesses lost energy in heat.

  • just looked it up... it's actually very interesting... i wonder why more companies haven't done this?

  • i don't see any flaws with this design either other than having to carry distilled water with you, but this is made up for by having no cooling system and if you use a condenser and recover your water this isn't a problem.

  • GOOD VIDEO!!!!

  • everyone should drive a crotch rocket? lol

  • im sorry but i will not walk into any place looking like a power ranger lol.

  • i am dreaming

  • Ferrari 599 GTB=1.7 MPG, if that's not a smack in the face, I don't know what is.

  • They should make a talk show all about cars...featuring Matt Farah, Derek D from FLD, and Jay Leno!!! Woo hoo!!! potato

  • If I'm buying a Ferrari the only thing I care about is, is it red and where's my p*ssy. Just my opinion.

  • Thats not gangsta, thats just ass-hat... classic.

  • A hybrid Ferrari is a sign of the times, I see it as less of a marketing scheme, and more of a symbol that Ferrari is still at the pinicle of automotive engineering.

Side note: Garage419, I enjoyed this episode, bring back Davey Johnson frequently, he knows his stuff and I like listening to him.

  • Most of high-end car buyers care more about 0-60 times, top speed, and the design of a car more than the engine specifics. As long as the car looks good when you pull up to a restaurant, it doesn't matter if the engine is powered by urine. The proof is that more high-end cars are being sold with automatic trans. than stick. So it's all about comfort, style & luxury to the people who can afford it. (mostly in CA, NY, FL)

  • The hybrid ferrari... I could see it working a bit in ferraris themselves... However, if they could "trickle down" into say... maserattis... That would make things a bit more interesting. But why not have a greener ferrari? extra range in supercars is always a good thing.

  • Love the Ford Focus RS, can't wait to get one. I can at least afford one of those.

  • Look... in a few years all the cars Would need to be hybrid, diesel or electric so why not to ferrari to try it and maybe built a new market(the economical supercars), we need that.

  • A Ferrari eletric car would be great. No power loss during shifts. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but, 'How it works' did a episode where a guy took an ariel atom and made it electric power, and it beat a Lamborghini Gallardo.

  • The regular gas Atom will beat a Gallardo too... in fact, the gas Atom will tie the Veyron up to 60. Its easy to make a car really fast if it only weighs 1000 lbs.

  • if they´re making a hybrid, it will be as fast, and agil, the only difference is the way it deliver the power

  • no Ferrari shouldn't make a hybrid ferrari is all about speed and it should stay that way because when u hear the work Ferrari wats the first thing thats pops into ur head Speed.also when u c a ferrari on the road u can't take ur eyes off of it u turn off the radio to hear the engine of it. so no ferrari should not make a hybrid.

  • the 612 is a 2+2 that can fit 2 more people

  • Ferrari is as Ferrari does. Any power train they develop is Ferrari. If Lamborghini made tractors why can't Ferrari make hybrids?

  • Ferraris are since I'd say the 90s, overpriced pieces of crap. You obviously pay souly for the marque. Who cares what a Ferrari should be.

  • wow

  • so in europe the sales of small cars are greater than that of here in the U.S.?

  • yes, by a significant margin.

  • ferrari hybrids just means even more expensive cars

  • idont know v12 are the diffinetion of testosteron.

  • Hybrid is dumb no matter who use's it.

  • hey davey a duece bag straight up only poor people buy small cars i make 80k+a year and i drive a caliber sxt , it just that my family is more important than my car and ferrari could do it but it has to be race proven electric , or hydrogen .

  • ok, 1 out of 225 million. Drive around Greenwich, CT or Beverly Hills and see how many econoboxes you can count in driveways.

  • If you want an efficiant super car look at a z06 or regular corvette 27 on highway and alot of people get 32 on highway

  • it's the LOTUS ELORA.. sounds alright..

  • evora

  • Actually its called the Lotus "Evora". and I like it, its no Esprit, but i dig it.

  • we taped this before the official naming.... i like it too..

  • This country( U.S. )has never had a really nice small car. Maybe its time, and maybe people will realize what they've been missing.

  • Of course, ferrari should use hybrid engines!.. it will be the next step in the F1 so i say YES to the hybrids Ferrari's Engines that in a few years i hope they will be powered by electricity!.. We can't go on anymore with this CO2 emissions and destroy our world!... The clean energies MUST RULE the world!!

  • Matt -

You're probably aware of it by now, but Lotus' Project Eagle will be called the Evora.

  • we taped this show a few days before the reveal... it happens.

  • Has anyone seen the new Ford Focus RS, GOOGLE IT NOW!

  • Yes and it looks sweet! Can't wait for it to hit the states.

  • Matt,

    Two questions:

    Why aren't engines DI already?

What's the difference between that and traditional fuel injection versus a carb?

Thanks for putting on the great show.

  • DI = direct injection?

Some engines are.... Audi's FSI, Porsche's new Direct Gas Injection.... the tech takes a while to become mainstream. The difference is direct injection has more computer controls, making it provide either more power or better economy depending on driver inputs... Carbs are for pure power on the track, that's all.

  • Dont forget the DISI 2.3L turbo in the Mazdaspeed3, that think is a beast.

  • yeah there are other Direct injection engines as well, I just didn't go through the whole list.

  • Yeah I know, and in the next 1-2 years, that list is going to triple, Direct injection and turbo seems like the best way to get the most out of your engine these days.

  • this davey guys knows his stuff very well, have him back often. and where the hell has mike spinelli been, haven't seen him in a long time.

  • we're working on a rotation of guests, spinelli's return will be very soon...

  • All I have to say is that introducing hybrid-based push-to-pass to Formula One would be a huge mistake.

  • Matt, I've watched a bunch of episodes and I'm finally warming up to ya brother. keep up the good work!

QOD: Ferrari should only build a hybrid if it increases performance - the same conclusion you arrived at for Porsche Direct Injection.

  • glad you finally realized i wasn't a tool....

    -m

  • skip nopi i never buy parts from them

  • The reason you can't buy the Focus on the American market is because it's designed and built in Europe. As was the Escort, the Transit, the Sierra, the Cortina, the Puma and the Capri. Plus, you guys have had the T-Bird and the Mustang for over nearly 50 years, and all we have are some Chavs* in XR3i Fiestas (Google It!!!)

Or as you yanks call them, Douche Bags.

  • ferrari should go for hybrid. i think that a car owner whants performance and if you get more performance and spend less fuel is fine by me...

  • So true. The fact is that the only weakness of the higher-revving, race type engines in the lineup (i.e. the V-8s) is low-end torque, which is incidentally the greatest strength of electric motors.

  • A ferrari should be fast and look great, to hell with how it does it, so long as it does people will always want them.

  • the euro focus is a great car, and its good that its going to the U.S. Ferrari should deffinatley look into hybrids and other fuel saving systems, its very unlikley that they would ever produce a car that is not quick, and if they can create a fast hybrid, with their name on the bonet it will shed a better light on the whole thing. The best of road technology come from racing, and with ferraris pedegri they have the best minds to do it

  • Ferrari should build a hybrid. they hire the greatest engine designers in the world and they should be the ones to lead the world into the next stage of automobiles. Ferrari cant claim to be the ultimate car producer if they are not on the edge of whats next and new and what is the future. we should look at the newest Ferraris and have an idea what the everday car of tomorrow will look like, drive like, and perform like

  • Matt did you know the corvette line makes better fuel economy than a lancer evolution.

  • as a corvette owner, yes i do! my 1998 C5 gets 34 mpg on the highway all day long...

  • ferrari is bulding a hybrid!

    forn the f1 2009

  • This week's guest is much better than that Alex Roy dink. PLEASE never have that dumbass on again.

  • The usa Ford focus is ugly as hell... I am european and i love the europena Ford focus... I am waiting for the realese of the Ford focus RS with 300 HP

  • ford finally has some since, Davey's has a good peint the Esprit has a certian class to it, Ferrari hybrid is a no go, if you buy a ferrari you already know what your getting as far as a economy car, plus it is unholy to spoil a bloodline like that.

  • Hey its the guy who hosted FLD last week.

So is that focus built in Europe?

  • right now, yes, but ford is converting several of its truck plants here to build small cars. this would be one of them.

  • Get a Euro built one it'll be higher quality.... Just kidding, I'm glad you guys will finally get the Focus it's a good car and somewhat of a standard everyman auto over here, I just hope that ford does not mess with the format too much before you guys get hold of it, you mention Top Gear and I still remember when Ford sent an F150 lightning to be reviewed and they sent a dog of a truck so Clarkson tore it a new one.... you gotta wonder about a company that sends a crappy car to a car show.

  • I'm ready to own some pro's in go kart. Also, ferrari can do whatever it wants and people will think it's awesome and cool and love it just because it's a Ferrari. You have to admit though, some of these new Ferrari's are looking pretty ugly, and I'm glad Clarkson from Top Gear agrees with me that people just love it because it's Ferrari. My only problem would be, if I wanted to add 20hp to it, does that mean I buy a deep cycle higher output battery? Weird.

  • the only thing ferrari needs to keep is its passion there kinda losing it

  • Since Formula 1 is moving to the KERS system next year Im all for the Ferrari hybrid. Allthough Ill judge it when I see the specs. Still wont be able to afford it anyway.

  • Ferrari should do what it as done always:

Be a step ahead on Engine Technology.

Ans Hybrid car withRacing Pedigree may be a win win situation: A LOT of TORQUE at any REV, and fuel Economy!

Actually, It would be very interestingto see an all electric F1 car. Since in F1 fuel autonomy is not sucha big issue, I believe that such a car would be unbeatable.

What about Batteries? Just replace a Cassette while changing tyres.

  • a ferrari hybrid is awesome cuz rich people are cheap as fuck and bitch about 3 cents but not about a 200k car lol

  • evora the new lotus is think it looks gorgeous

  • matt, awesome show as usual, but i wanna hear your thoughts on the Top Gear lap with the gt-r.

As for the hybrid ferrari, I agree that as long as its coming down from the F1 program and not a retooled prius, I'm all for it.

  • Ferrari does not need a hybrid, anyone who can afford $300 a hour shop labor to service their prancing horse really does not give a fuck less if gas costs $4 a gallon.

  • it'll help tho

  • For myself a car like a Ferrari is as much about its sound then its looks, for example my all time favorite race car is the 1972 312 B3 not because it was ultra fast or won the most races but because the noise it made is spine chilling.

I find it really hard to imagine a Ferrari still sounding like a Ferrari should when a good part of its power is coming from a electric motor.

  • Why don't they need a hybrid? Why not use the KERS system? It's being used in F1 as a way to increase your acceleration for a bit, and thus... it gives you more power! Are you against Ferrari trying to improve their already amazing powertrains? I mean seriously, they're concerned about performance and guess what? This gives them more performance. Personally, I think it's awesome and I really hope to see what it's going to do. Plus, electric motors... have PHENOMENTAL torque.

  • No, i was more speaking about the Toyota Prius hybrid style of design that is just an excuse to add cost and tech and nothing more.
