  • jay that was great, i sing at mt. sac in the jazz choir and we're singing this song and im gonna try out for this solo =)

  • Another great song, just like your others, Jay! Hope to see you soon!

  • I am singing this for my high school jazz choir (Avant Blues From Mariner High School in Everett, WA, if you want to look us up), My choir teacher was so exited to sing it knowing how amazing the original was but of course we couldn't do the original and we are doing the one arranged by Dave Barduhn instead, I had no clue how to stylize that solo when I began singing it so I just ad-libbed the whole thing, and my oh my it is nothing compared to your style!

  • Oh, dude. Truth from the mouth of a great player

    Jay

  • Okay... I can say I did enjoy it, if only because it was about the great drummer, Louie Bellson. But, I would be embarassed to watch this with my friends.

  • Good one.

  • you tell 'em. That was one of the best things I've ever seen. I'm showing all my friends and they're all gonna like it.

  • By the way, who marked him as spam?

  • It surely wasn't spam and I didn't remove it. I'm for a good tussle any time!

    jay

  • Jay, you are the poet laureate of jazz! I caught you in Methuen, MA with Wycliffe Gordon last year, and you were both superb! Thanks for the music, the artistry and the humor!

  • Why thank you Jazztbone.

Note I'm only three months late in replying.

    Jay

  • Jay this is a remarkable piece of performance art and musicianship. I just stumbled upon this and it makes me think a lot about big bands in the 70s. Thad and Mel, Buddy Rich etc. By the way, how is Pete Christlieb doing? I haven't heard him in some time. I played in a society band for some time.

  • I love it !

  • Fabulous Jay! I believe every jazz musician has dealt with that same "silver haired coot" at one point or another. Thanks for putting voice to it and to Louie God Rest him, for dealing with it correctly.

  • Hahaha, this is marvelous!!

I'm a Jay too, and you are certainly a fine Jay.

    Keep up the flawless work!

P.S. I can't believe someone would make such an awful comment like the one jazzisgood made. He probably is just a tad intimidated by your skill.

  • Couldn't agree more,

I'm in awe. Gave up bass years ago, 'cause I couldn't play and sing at the same time.

Lately I've been trying to combine the two things, and it *hard* work

  • jazzisgood82 must be a Brit, don't you think? "Sod off" sounds like a limey insult that unfortunately means nothing to a yank, except maybe as a gardening term.

  • Or maybe he's feeling his oats (an American term) because the pound is worth so much in dollars now.

Sod Off -a new powerful stain remover.

Hi This is Billy Mays and I want to talk about "Sod Off!"

  • This is a grate story about what musicians have to go through to make a buck.

    Louie Bellson kicks ass.

    Thanks Jay

  • Jay,

I've known of your work for years and I got a big charge out of this ditty. I once did a society job in Philly with the great bassist Jack Six and I could imagine what might have been going through his head, but he played the job, played it great and did it on a Fender bass---I had hoped he'd play upright, but it didn't matter cause it was a pleasure to play with him, and he was a nice guy to boot.

  • jAY u rOCK !@#$%^&*()

  • okay, here's what i've got to say about you Mr. jazzisgood82.......have some respect for this great musician! who are you to talk so bad about Mr. Leonhart????

  • So I guess this means you won't be buying the DVD?

    Jay

  • Classic. Fantastic. George would be glad to know that his bass in in such great hands.
