I bought a gurdy from Neil Brook and from the day it arrived it went from bad to worse. Wheel out of line, two pegs loose, lid badly fitted, three keys sticking etc. He blamed me for over rosining. Then his freind sent me a threatening e-mail.....nice chap.
I've used them myself and know several players of Neil Brook's Gurdy's. From my experience I've nothing but praise for them. I've met him on several occassions and am also aquainted with several of his friends and this all to me sounds a little unbelievable.
But everyone should be allowed to inform and express their opinion so I'll leave your comments.
@rouseg7 This guy refused my offer to make good his perceived problems and subsequently bought another gurdy from me !.He has apparently ordered one from another maker. I wish the maker the best of luck with this offensive pain in the neck . If you want to know more about him, just check out the style of his comments on other Youtube clips.
what gives the sense of awe and wonder is the drone, its sets a mood and sets something to play off of, Ive experimented a lot with it, and I find it fun to change style and mode and sometimes key (on organ) but keep the same pitch droning, it has the same effect. Incredible playing.
This is just so gorgeous! Wonderful playing! :) The hurdy gurdy is one of my favorite instruments in the world. I just got one a couple of weeks ago and I can't get enough of it!
i just love the sound of these! what culture, or countries did this instrument originate from? cause to me it sounds like a mixture of celtic folk, and irish folk
VERY nice. I know Anna from Eluveitie and I have to say, it's a VERY interesting instrument. I use to play an "Autoharp" (kinda like a mechanical hammer-dulcimer or harp).
Yep. I always say it sounds like a fiddle, but it drones like a bagpipe. I want to learn this instrument so badly, but i don't know where to start! And they are so expensive!
8-) Yep; its a Neil Brook Luteback in C/G. The sound on the video is not brilliant and doesn't do justice to it. Live it sounds gorgeous. I would recomend his instruments to anybody.
Whoa! Awesome....You have made wonderful progress in this first year and I hope you plan on recording a few more vid's. Afterall they are great to review as you get more experience in.
Beautiful sound, shame you dont get more people playing the Hurdy Gurdy.

Actually I wanted to try hurdy gurdy.
As a begginer what should I avoid and what costs I should expect? I know the basics of music.

costs about 2000+ US$ for a beginners instrument
as its the case with every instrument youll have to practise a lot

Very stimulating stuff, gets the blood roiling. Fills one with admiration and wonder at the dexterity and sheer artistry. Bravo!

Da dove arriva questo strumento?
umegghju 3 years ago
pare dall'Europa dell'est ma a dire il vero io sono ignorante in materia.... ;o)
pero' mi piacerebbe suonare uno strumento del genere
wiglif4ever 3 years ago
This instrument is certainly not to be played by a short stout fellow with a very long beard. Doing so may add an extra drone to the sound.

cool! sounds like a bagpipes
CapieMan 4 years ago 2
That is because it has drones, although their strings on the hurdy gurdy . . . Bagpipes have pipe drones.
CEEthedinoman 3 years ago
Actually the instrument is a combination of violin, bagpipes, organ and food processor.
