  • Beautiful sound, shame you dont get more people playing the Hurdy Gurdy.

  • Super musik and musiker!

I am hurdy gurdy maker and player too , you can see my hurdy gurdy modells and musik videos on szerenyi.hu

    szerenyi béla

  • I bought a gurdy from Neil Brook and from the day it arrived it went from bad to worse. Wheel out of line, two pegs loose, lid badly fitted, three keys sticking etc. He blamed me for over rosining. Then his freind sent me a threatening e-mail.....nice chap.

  • @rouseg7

I've used them myself and know several players of Neil Brook's Gurdy's. From my experience I've nothing but praise for them. I've met him on several occassions and am also aquainted with several of his friends and this all to me sounds a little unbelievable.

But everyone should be allowed to inform and express their opinion so I'll leave your comments.

Better luck in the future with a different maker.

  • @rouseg7 This guy refused my offer to make good his perceived problems and subsequently bought another gurdy from me !.He has apparently ordered one from another maker. I wish the maker the best of luck with this offensive pain in the neck . If you want to know more about him, just check out the style of his comments on other Youtube clips.

  • wow nice^^

  • Very nicely done! I hope that I can do as well as you after only a year. Wish me luck!

  • Great video, does your right arm get tired after all the turning?

  • Excuse me,

Can u tell who built your hurdy? =)

  • hurdy gurdys are amazing in metal

  • Actually I wanted to try hurdy gurdy.

As a begginer what should I avoid and what costs I should expect? I know the basics of music.

  • costs about 2000+ US$ for a beginners instrument

as its the case with every instrument youll have to practise a lot

  • any ideas on how to locate these instruments/players in the charlotte area?

  • what gives the sense of awe and wonder is the drone, its sets a mood and sets something to play off of, Ive experimented a lot with it, and I find it fun to change style and mode and sometimes key (on organ) but keep the same pitch droning, it has the same effect. Incredible playing.

  • can the drone/ open be tuned to E ?

  • i tried it on an M3, unfortunately ive never touched a hurdy-gurdy x_x

  • This is just so gorgeous! Wonderful playing! :) The hurdy gurdy is one of my favorite instruments in the world. I just got one a couple of weeks ago and I can't get enough of it!

  • Very stimulating stuff, gets the blood roiling. Fills one with admiration and wonder at the dexterity and sheer artistry. Bravo!

  • i just love the sound of these! what culture, or countries did this instrument originate from? cause to me it sounds like a mixture of celtic folk, and irish folk

  • lol.

  • Do you mean: Ragged pants, or fancy pants?

  • tough question. you pick your own clothes!

  • WOW!

VERY nice. I know Anna from Eluveitie and I have to say, it's a VERY interesting instrument. I use to play an "Autoharp" (kinda like a mechanical hammer-dulcimer or harp).

    I WANT ONE OF THESE!!!!

  • sounds like a bagpipe

  • yeak, like a cross between a bagpipe and a fiddle.

  • *yeah

  • Yep. I always say it sounds like a fiddle, but it drones like a bagpipe. I want to learn this instrument so badly, but i don't know where to start! And they are so expensive!

  • that song sounds vaguely familiar what is it? almost sounds like last rose of summer...

  • In Soviet Russia, Hurdy Gurdy plays YOU

  • Da dove arriva questo strumento?

  • pare dall'Europa dell'est ma a dire il vero io sono ignorante in materia.... ;o)

pero' mi piacerebbe suonare uno strumento del genere

  • This instrument is certainly not to be played by a short stout fellow with a very long beard. Doing so may add an extra drone to the sound.

  • I believe you're thinking of the word "gnome"...

  • where do you put the cats?

  • this is spinal tap

  • bathrobe?

  • How much could I pick one of these up for second hand?? Tx..:)

  • victory to the soviet union

  • sounds pretty irish to me

  • pretty cool stuff

  • Cet instrument est beaucoup utilisé dans la région de France appelée Bourbonnais.Quand il est bien joué, çà ne ressemble pas à çà

  • How many fingers are you supposed to use? What's wrong with 3 fingers?

    NICE JOB!

  • Excellent playing...tighten up the grace notes a bit and you're in great form.

  • cool! sounds like a bagpipes

  • That is because it has drones, although their strings on the hurdy gurdy . . . Bagpipes have pipe drones.

  • Actually the instrument is a combination of violin, bagpipes, organ and food processor.

  • hahaha! such a fancy one at that

  • Brilliant!

  • Pretty darn cool -- well done.

  • please tell me your being sarcastic

  • Very nice, thank you! How hard is it to play?

  • dude that was amazing, tell me how hard is it to play it, and if u can give me tips on how to play it

  • its not hard at all, u just have to have good control over the hand thats turning the wheel

  • ....attempts? it seems like he did much better than just an attempt! haha well done!

  • Thanks Dave: sounded great!

  • nice :)

is it a Neil Brook instrument ?

  • 8-) Yep; its a Neil Brook Luteback in C/G. The sound on the video is not brilliant and doesn't do justice to it. Live it sounds gorgeous. I would recomend his instruments to anybody.

  • At the moment, Chris Allen is building a D/G luteback for me, but I do have Neil's CD :D

    Jimi

  • blimey ! one year of playing? that was really really good :-) i liked it a lot

  • Ahhh... 1 Year playing: but 30 years dreaming 8-)

  • Whoa! Awesome....You have made wonderful progress in this first year and I hope you plan on recording a few more vid's. Afterall they are great to review as you get more experience in.

  • Yeah! you play quite good for someone who plays just one year!

    Go on, and post more!

    greetz Nina.

  • good work after a year!
