Just gotta lay the explosion footage over yours, then properly mask that (if it came with a mask, use a track matte on that).

If its just the video, you can either use blue screening, green screening, luma keys or a blending mode; depending on the footage and what program you're using.

heheh, you don't even need masks for most disappearing/appearing effects. Just make a cut between two different scenes - make sure you are using a stationary camera (i.e. a tripod) then use basically any transition (e.g. a cross dissolve) to give the appearing or disappearing illusion.

The program didn't just crawl in a hole and die when I made this video. It was a learning 'stepping stone'. I also bought an older version (eBay) and got the upgrade. Much cheaper.

The program I used was Adobe After Effects and Premiere. It's fairly expensive, but well worth it if you used it a lot. It takes some time to get used to it and understand how to do things (then to be creative).

I was about 12 at the time of making this video.

The only choice is really Premiere or Final Cut.

They can both be difficult on the first try, though. You might need a tutorial or two, but seriously... it's worth it.
