Mr. Bronfman comments that Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #3 is the best way to introduce someone to classical music. By coincidence, when I was 10 years old, my mom bought me an AM/FM radio, and by sheer chance, while channel surfing through the FM stations (in New York City), when I heard the beginning of a piano concerto on WQXR. I just kept listening for the entire half hour and my love of classical music was established. What captivated me so deeply? The concerto #2 (what else)?
@rolex452 I was 13 when I heard Mozart's Requiem which did it basically within the first few bars. Since then I have devoted my life to the sacred art.
Bronfman IS Rachmaninov. No, seriously, Bronfman seems to me, gets into the essense of rachmaninov, maybe into the psyche of the exiled Russian in general. He is a titan of Russian pianism certainly up there with Berman, Gilels and Richter.

Two of my heroes, Bronfman and Rachmaninoff. What a treat. Thank you.
