Today at work, some one returned Blood Diamond on HD DVD. I decided to buy it since it would be cool to have one of the discs... I just need a player to watch it. lol
in a few years that hd dvd drive is gonna be worth alot of money and so r the movies after a few more microsoft consoles surpass the 360 just remember the value on things look up on ebay n64 disc drive people r selling them for 999.00
Don't get why he had to burn the device; it's not even broken. Plus the smoke will only compromise his health. Just starting my HD DVD collection. Yay.
@Thegateoftruth1 whats the point of buying HD DVD? There are no new titles available eventually you will have to buy blu ray if you want to watch new Hi-def movies
One is better then the other, but more in storage, BluRay wins! haha, YOU LOST? Now that's being a FanBoy. HDDVD could not be supported because Toshiba did not have the backing, but I just bought one, it's cheap enough, you know?! It's ALL ABOUT price
Like or loath HD DVD, top brand films are probably set to become pricey to collectors in years to come due to the inevitable cult following - Betamax lost the war, but as a result gave it an under commercialised following who faithfully backed it even when it went out of production. HD DVD is in 1080 lets not forget. I have Blu-ray just like everyone, although maybe it's time to invest in a few classic rare HD DVD's for keeps sake.
So I recently started collecting HDDVD's since my local used book store sells a ton of them. When I was checking out the guy at the register mentioned that some of my movies weren't american and that my player may not work. I then began to educate him on how HDDVD never had region issues so I can play whatever I want. And the price I payed for the player, the matrix collection, 300, heroes, transformers, v for vendetta, and others was less than the cost on a blu ray movie.
Just got a hd player and some great hd dvd's that I have wanted for awhile all for hardly nothing. Disk formats are dead anyway considering digital distribution so both formats lost, its just a matter of time for bluray. I won't even go into upconverting dvd's or the fact that these players are still great dvd drives for those drive less netbooks. My 30gb dual layer hd disks are bigger than the 25gb bluray discs most movies are on. And when I do go bluray its gonna be a hd/bd combo player.
wtf, FUCK YOU! I bought my hd dvd xbox player 2 months ago, and I love it! luray and HD are exactly the same for me, and in the future I'm planning to buy a blu ray, but its STUPID to destroy the hd dvd player!! fat ugly money man.
I'm glad at least one of them is out of the way, just to narrow it down with just one. Personally, I would have wished both of them stayed. On top of that, I got the playters to play either format. I got the following discs:
HD DVD
Blu-Rays
UMDs
Digital Copies (Some on PC, others on Hard Drive, others from the PlayStation Network)
I had a strong feeling Blu-Ray was gonna win. 1st off it had more attractive presentation. It had way +more studio support. & the blu-ray had a lot more storage.
@FENDER4REAL the biggest factor was that every PS3 that sold was a bluray player sold. its the reason i got a ps3 because at the time it was one of the cheapest Blu players
Useless?? Your Stupid!!, I buy hd dvds for less then a dollar, I buy bluray for over 20 dollars. Dont throw it away yet , huge library dirt cheap. But if you want to be a dork and pay top dollar, go buy new blurays. Dumb***!
It didn't even burn, instead of getting rid of hd dvd we should have gotten rid of dvd, high defintion discs should be on the market(blu ray disc/hd dvd) not one sd then 1 hd and people with the other hd waisted their money so toshiba screwed up.
In the UK you can now pick up a Xbox HD DVD drive for £15 with a HD DVD movie from gamestation second hand and the HD DVD movies now sell from as low as £1
I'm not a Sony "fanboy" but I TOLD YOU SONY WOULD WIN!!! The HD DVD/360 is inferior technology at 720p and component cables, compared to 1080p and HDMI cables. Blu-rays also have a scratch-resistant surface and hold more data. You know what sucks about the 360? They FINALLY got an hdmi port, but only for the expensive models, AND IT DOESN'T COME WITH AN HDMI CABLE!!! (ps3 didn't either, wtf)
@vigilante8fan If you're not a "fanboy" then why are you digging up videos that are TWO YEARS OLD just to jump and flail around like a child about how you were "right" screaming "I TOLD YOU SO"? LOL sad little twat.
@Blunty3000 thanks for the laugh, mate! As if you couldn't tell, (which you couldn't), that was SARCASM. actually back in the day i did not care about HD stuff, and still don't. (PS this video is not 2 years old yet)
@vigilante8fan what does Sony have to do with bluray winning? when you buy a ps3, you also pay money to Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG (Lucky GoldStar) Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung. they all own the bluray technology and make some parts of it each, in case you didn't know. this is why ps3 is so expensive.you pay them all. the bluray won because it was promoted by all these companies (and some more that joined later) as opposed to the hd-dvd who was promoted only by Toshiba.
PS3 "can" play HD DVDs. Dont bitch just yet, here is the reason why. The laser in the HD DVD Player is the same laser as the Blu-Ray player. So with some firmware tweaking/power adjustment to the ps3 system, maybe like an app or something for the partition that could force the drive to work. the ps3 does recognize the drive but it takes Unbantu to launch the drive. most people dont want to mod their drives but you can!
do you have an HD TV? its such an improvement from DVD quality and the sound is improved with 7.1 support. so if you have a home theater system like me its worth it!
DVD's are great, and the quality is really good, but if you put them on a big screen and then get any wear near it the picture looks terrible. No matter what you run Blu-Ray on it looks perfect, up close, far away whatever. The sound quality is better also and as for up-converting thats like turning a 2 mega-pixle and up converting it too a 10 mega-pixle, its still a 2megapixle
@iggy3200 dude have you ever watched a blue ray movie and checked out all the EXTRA'S they pack into them? Take a good look at the menu systems on some of the movies...there is more than just simple menu's to skip to certain scenes/chapters...there's a shitload of extra stuff you won't get on a regular dvd...
uh dude really you can get bluray discs for under 11 dollars. all old re releases are put on 25 to 50 gig blu ray discs at the price of or lower than a standard DVD. why would i pay 20 dollars for a DVD and at the same price by star-trek on Bluray. hm i wonder?
My mate has a PS3 and i have HD DVD add on for my xbox 360 elite
we watched 300 on mine and on hi and he said HD DVD was better i said i really couldn't care less, as long as i can pick up a movie and watch it i'm happy, still am a bit annoyed that HD DVD lost tho
I couldn't care what format it was on HD DVD or Blu-ray, just so long as it worked and was good, i did want to find out what they where like and i did.
Regardless of any of your legit reasons for backing HD-DVD over Blu-ray, it won for one simple reason. A Blu-ray player came with PS3, no extra commitment required, you have an automatic built-in Blu-ray market from millions of PS3 gamers alone. I knew for this reason it was going to win, regardless of any more technical arguments. I pick winners (i.e. WWE over WCW, haha)
@drlax15m you don't SERIOUSLY think Blu-Ray won the format wars because it was included in a PS3? Do you know how stupid that makes you sound? Trust me, it had waaaaaaay more to do with it's capabilities and NOT what game console has it..
i believe it was also technically superior as well, but the built-in player market provided by PS3 gave it a huge market advantage, at the very least, it would have taken longer to decide who won
@Starbuckfsd I seriously dont see the point on why fanboys keep going on and on and on about PS3. Honestly, PS3 is so dirty cheap now, people can more realistically own both. I still dont believe blu-ray is the future. I think download content is the future. I'd rather buy movies and downlaod them (especially since internet connections are getting faster ans faster), and then browse them like a jukebox, than put in a disc. it's much cooler, and looks just as good (well, almost).
@joemann797 I agree....I think downloads is where we're going, but to play devils advocate.....what would happen if your download storage device died? All your movies/music/etc would be lost.
@Starbuckfsd I think the best way would be to have a device, and be allowed to rip your original movie onto the device to make a jukebox, and be able to keep the original somewhere safe. That would be ideal, but the industry will never allow such a thing.
@Starbuckfsd hypethetically, if the PS3 would have came with an HD-DVD drive instead of blu-ray, HD-DVD would have won. PS3 had a lot to do with it. For one, it was one of the least expensive blu-ray players on the market at the time. Blu-ray players were around $1000 when PS3 was only $600. Dont you think that has something to do with it? Nobody buys something strictly on capacity. Not everyone happens to be a nerd.
HD-DVD and blu-ray both look great, but blu-ray won.
Some might say that without those odd colour/speed changing repeating bits and the funky music this video would have been boring and pointless. How wrong they would be.
Others might say that your HD DVD player is not useless. THEY WOULD BE SO WRONG. Everyone knows that as soon as all the major movie studios got behind BluRay, Toshiba sent out a transmission that disabled all HD DVD players. It's a good job they did that otherwise people would have been able to use their HD DVD players forever!
I found heaps on ebay for way less than I would pay for the Blu-ray copy. I'll get a blu-ray sooner or later, just not right away, I'm waiting for them go down in price like DVDs did.
What a dumb fuck LMAO! Typical 3Shitty fanboi, his hd dvd player fails, and his console is next lmao! Fuckin looser, shoulda said i told u so. Now ur dumb ass is assed out of 200 bucks you could have put torwards a PS3 lmao!
at least you can watch ur movies the best way possable.its the way films ment to be watched.the way i see things is...buy a ps3 get blu-ray free sort of depends what way you look at it.
i got one myself i love it i got it for 50 bucks a week later after it lost, but at least i wont be wasting 600 on a blueray, becuase before it was over hddvd made about close to 300 dvds and i only got 6 :( but i still love 360 and hdvd for ever!
are you retarded, 600 bucks, more like 400, for ps3, its built in, not like the shit box where you have to buy it, then you have it hanging out like a broken limb. overall, the ps3 wins, 360 is going to die, just its friend, the hd disc. ps3 ftw
How? If he was a MS fanboy he would be boasting about the 360, he would ALWAYS label Sony as crap (he did on about one or two occasions but that's it), he would NEVER set that HD-DVD player on fire, and he would label everyone elses opinion as pathetic unless they have the same opinion as himself.
I just bought one for the very reason that it DID lose!! I got the drive and over 20 movies for just over 100Aust dollars!!
Very happy and as somebody else said you can get the movies for very cheap, so i plan on getting pretty much the entire catalogue that was released on HD! Also there are still movies coming out for HD NOW.......So i feel very much like i've WON.
Plus blu-ray for xbox should be out in a few months!! SICK.
they stopped making HD dvd's months ago...and blu ray cant go on xbox cuz sony developed it and bill gates actually said that those are just rumours and declines xbox getting blu ray, retard
Sony owns more than 80% of the blu-ray company so no Blu-ray for xbox ( i agree with rexraptor5000) if they're going to make a blu-ray accessories for xbox it's going to be $200 dollars (maybe I'm just guessing)
but of course i really don't think that this matters/ worthless video why waste your time. there is an advantage to blueray the fact it can hold up to 50 gb. but you realise that blue ray had to win (as ps3 would've gone down the pan) and also why do people think blueray is bad .
hd dvd and blueray essential do the same thing store data one difference though blueray holds more!
why isn't bluray a good product it's the same /better then hd dvd wtf shut your face you smack head you don't know what your talking about, i could understand if you said ps3 was bad btw it's not bad it's level with xbox they do the same thing but differetly.
why make stupid comments like this, i don't mind wether people buy xbox or playstation
you are the one that doesent know anything. HD DVD was at the time a better choice. And in the end we all lost when HD DVD went out of sale. It was cheaper, better compability to DVDs and great upscaling. Dident need further profile upgrade so I was a complete product while BD at the time was not!
i think this blunty was talking about high def movies, not gaming consoles, all you damn xbox and ps3 fans please move on and bitch on in another video...
Way back in 1894, a little girl named Madeline Crothe was skipping through the woods when a mysterious man in black snatched her. He brought her to his house, tourtered her, and starved her to death. Send this to 6 videos in the next 30 min. and you will be safe, but if you don't... at approximately 1: 34 tonight you will wake up to see an aneorexic child holding a bloodied up knife and she will kill you
there mustve been a giant rash of xbox 360's that were malconfigured, i have the 1st generation (because i bought it the first day it came out) and it has never had any problems
the war isn't over by a long shot, hd-dvd is still on xbox 360 and xbox 360 is beating ps3 in sales by a mile, ps3 and blu-ray suck. I had a ps3 and i sold it because its a ps2 with better graphics, same games same shit. I'll stick with my xbox 360 and Wii, more fun better games.
Quality over Quantity. More games does not always mean a better console, it just means you have more filler to sift through later to find the cream of the crop in bargain bins. I prefer a smaller count of games, that way I know what I buy for $60 is quality.
hd-dvd and blu-ray war been over, just because the 360 still carries them means jack shit...microsoft supported hd-dvd...and case you wondering what makes this war officially make this war over, toshiba even announce they pull the plug on it...plus no studio is making movies for it...so as far as i can see, the war is over by a long shot
wow. yeah useless, but bought some hd-dvd movies for 5 bucks the other day. I could use the xbox player on my computer until the next format comes out.
Microshit dropped the price down cause they knew that HD DVD would lose. People, stop buying Microshit products. Convert to Apple, they take care of their consumers just like Sony.
Yes but HD DVD is dead. PS3 has a bigger HDD which is upgradeable to 500GB. Charger is included for the PS3 controller, It has PC like features, mouse and keyboard can be plugged in to use for games and the Interent browser, you can add on another OS like Lynux and run applications. You can download songs, themes and apps for free right on to the PS3 hard drive using the Internet browser Plus all PS3 models have HDMI and an extremely low failure rate. Same price, but much better value with PS3.

I still don't understand why it was so necessary to come out with a format better than DVD anyways.
1. DVDs already introduced menu systems (no rewinding anymore)
2. When DVDs came out, everyone was orgasming over how amazing the quality was. People are just saying the same thing about Blu-ray now.
3. You can up-convert DVDs to look nearly as good as any blu-ray disc.
Other than computer storage and ps3 games, we are getting ripped off by going with blu-ray technology, especially for movies.

I figured out how to turn regular DVD's into Blu-ray discs.
Take a $50 bill and tape it to your favorite DVD,
Then write "BLU-RAY" with a fat ass marker on it.
Now scratch it with a spec of dust so it's unplayable and put it in your player!
See, same shitty junk technology and same stupid waste of fucking money!
I'm waiting for the first USB drive player.
Then I'll get mine!

@Starbuckfsd I think the best way would be to have a device, and be allowed to rip your original movie onto the device to make a jukebox, and be able to keep the original somewhere safe. That would be ideal, but the industry will never allow such a thing.
joemann797 1 year ago
@Starbuckfsd hypethetically, if the PS3 would have came with an HD-DVD drive instead of blu-ray, HD-DVD would have won. PS3 had a lot to do with it. For one, it was one of the least expensive blu-ray players on the market at the time. Blu-ray players were around $1000 when PS3 was only $600. Dont you think that has something to do with it? Nobody buys something strictly on capacity. Not everyone happens to be a nerd.
HD-DVD and blu-ray both look great, but blu-ray won.

Anikan1005 2 years ago
Some might say that without those odd colour/speed changing repeating bits and the funky music this video would have been boring and pointless. How wrong they would be.
Others might say that your HD DVD player is not useless. THEY WOULD BE SO WRONG. Everyone knows that as soon as all the major movie studios got behind BluRay, Toshiba sent out a transmission that disabled all HD DVD players. It's a good job they did that otherwise people would have been able to use their HD DVD players forever!

$Microsoft$ will just buy or make some company that makes Blu-ray drives ;)
daswada9 2 years ago
at least you can watch ur movies the best way possable.its the way films ment to be watched.the way i see things is...buy a ps3 get blu-ray free sort of depends what way you look at it.
Thedoomsha 2 years ago
i got one myself i love it i got it for 50 bucks a week later after it lost, but at least i wont be wasting 600 on a blueray, becuase before it was over hddvd made about close to 300 dvds and i only got 6 :( but i still love 360 and hdvd for ever!
Relief26 2 years ago
blu ray players are in the $200 range...
and yeah, go enjoy your dead format.
bsilver887 2 years ago
are you retarded, 600 bucks, more like 400, for ps3, its built in, not like the shit box where you have to buy it, then you have it hanging out like a broken limb. overall, the ps3 wins, 360 is going to die, just its friend, the hd disc. ps3 ftw

Thedoomsha 2 years ago
I just bought one for the very reason that it DID lose!! I got the drive and over 20 movies for just over 100Aust dollars!!
Very happy and as somebody else said you can get the movies for very cheap, so i plan on getting pretty much the entire catalogue that was released on HD! Also there are still movies coming out for HD NOW.......So i feel very much like i've WON.
Plus blu-ray for xbox should be out in a few months!! SICK.
HungryKFC 2 years ago
they stopped making HD dvd's months ago...and blu ray cant go on xbox cuz sony developed it and bill gates actually said that those are just rumours and declines xbox getting blu ray, retard
rexraptor5000 2 years ago
Sony owns more than 80% of the blu-ray company so no Blu-ray for xbox ( i agree with rexraptor5000) if they're going to make a blu-ray accessories for xbox it's going to be $200 dollars (maybe I'm just guessing)
jeremy23jacinto 2 years ago
like the vid .
but of course i really don't think that this matters/ worthless video why waste your time. there is an advantage to blueray the fact it can hold up to 50 gb. but you realise that blue ray had to win (as ps3 would've gone down the pan) and also why do people think blueray is bad .
hd dvd and blueray essential do the same thing store data one difference though blueray holds more!

why isn't bluray a good product it's the same /better then hd dvd wtf shut your face you smack head you don't know what your talking about, i could understand if you said ps3 was bad btw it's not bad it's level with xbox they do the same thing but differetly.
why make stupid comments like this, i don't mind wether people buy xbox or playstation
Petriodet 2 years ago
you are the one that doesent know anything. HD DVD was at the time a better choice. And in the end we all lost when HD DVD went out of sale. It was cheaper, better compability to DVDs and great upscaling. Dident need further profile upgrade so I was a complete product while BD at the time was not!

You can sell Xbox's easily because people are looking to replace theirs after the warranty goes out and they get the RROD.
I had a 360, sent it in 5 times before I gave it up. Bought a PS3 and never had one problem.
scarmullet 2 years ago
there mustve been a giant rash of xbox 360's that were malconfigured, i have the 1st generation (because i bought it the first day it came out) and it has never had any problems

the war isn't over by a long shot, hd-dvd is still on xbox 360 and xbox 360 is beating ps3 in sales by a mile, ps3 and blu-ray suck. I had a ps3 and i sold it because its a ps2 with better graphics, same games same shit. I'll stick with my xbox 360 and Wii, more fun better games.
motley8oy 2 years ago
hahah a ps2 with a better graphic ..
is there any truth in that ...
.. not
Kaizer13 2 years ago
your just making a fool out of yourself, there is alot more games on the xbox that's also on the ps2 and not ps3. go play with traffic.
smartguy9765 2 years ago
Quality over Quantity. More games does not always mean a better console, it just means you have more filler to sift through later to find the cream of the crop in bargain bins. I prefer a smaller count of games, that way I know what I buy for $60 is quality.
scarmullet 2 years ago
hd-dvd and blu-ray war been over, just because the 360 still carries them means jack shit...microsoft supported hd-dvd...and case you wondering what makes this war officially make this war over, toshiba even announce they pull the plug on it...plus no studio is making movies for it...so as far as i can see, the war is over by a long shot

Blue Ray has no future either. It is still a primitive mechanical device no matter how much it holds.
memory cards prices are dropping so fast that soon we'll see all media sold on those. This solid state format will be the one to stay for good.
