Getting into punk rock in 2000 is nothing to fucking brag about. 2000 was exactly when it became a huge mainstream fad - Spin had a special "punk issue", Alternative Press started covering punk rock instead of nu-metal, the stars of Disney Channel kids' shows started dressing punk, VH1 aired an hour long History of Punk special, lots of video games were licensing punk rock songs, etc.

I got into it in 96, which is nothing to brag about either... but 2000 was when it went 100% mainstream.

Oh yeah... and I should also mention that around the turn of the millennium, Kid Rock released a hit single where the chorus was "I make punk rock, then I mix it with the hip-hop". Almost everyone was jumping on the punk bandwagon back then. I recall a hilarious interview with Poison from 2000 where they suddenly claimed to be "garage punk".
