I like tis video BUT i dont get the folding the head and tail... but nice instructions! try to minnimize the recording sound cuz i cant hear your voice! :DDDDD
"Now we're going to undue what we just did, and open it up and squish it down flat...." I got hopelessly lost at that point because your hands are kind of hiding what you are doing...I'm unable to get back were I was so will start again w/ new paper...I will try the slower version.
Pretty good video. The only tutorial I could actually follow, however it was a bit difficult Because of the paper you were using. It all blended in, and I could not see the difference very well between the folded paper and non folder, since it was all the same.
i liked this, but the paper pattern made it a little hard to see the folds; it all kinda blended. i will look at the slower one maybe i will see it better if it is slower. :)
Thank you very much. I have been trying to make this forever, i could never get how to fold the neck and tail inside out and mine always got ruined. But thanks to this video, i can now do it. 5 stars!
lolz thx for the vid, very handy I was able to follow along and make my first crane. Though I only had simple white paper from my printer that I measured and cut into a square before starting the vid.
hay! thank you so much for that! im a beginner at origami and i found it very easy to follow and i now have a beautiful crane to add to my small collection =)
You're welcome! And as I mentioned below, there is also a much slower version, so if you're a beginner you might want to give that one a try. This is a quicker version for people who have some experience with origami.
This is the normal speed one - if you want slow, take a look at the version that's a full 10 minutes long :) We have two speeds so that there's a version for every level of folder.
Just a reminder to people new to origami that this is NOT the easiest origami out there. Start with the simpler shapes - the cup or the dove. If you really just want to start with the crane, I have a separate video up with is a VERY SLOW version of the crane that you might find more easy.
you made the crane very very easy this is the first time i made the crane because all the other times i have ended up with just jumbled paper and i saw your video and i got it first try so thank you so much!!!:)
I think you might be confused :) I've done a lot of testing and with a light color you can't see *anything* - the fold lines wash out and are not visible.
If you don't understand how the folds work here, did you try my "super slow version" for beginners? That might be more your speed!
Heey! I think this is a very nice video of origami folding instructions. There are ones here on YT that just go way too fast, and the instructions are hard to follow. But this one was very clear to me. But I was folding, and everyting seemed more familiar, and suddenly I realised that I was already able to fold this bird. xD
I was looking for another version of an origami crane.
Thanks for the help! The speed was absolutely PERFECT for learning! Not too fast, not too slow. The paper you're using is the paper that I use. But the recorder playing the Sakura song in the backround was....a bit uncalled for. ^_^
lol :) The DVD version has a fully professional soundtrack. I didn't have access to that real music when I did this video, and I don't think I can reload the video with a new soundtrack in here.
First, the pause button is useful because you can pause as long as you need to before you move on. But second - I have a WHOLE TEN MINUTE VERSION which I posted explicitly for people who need to go really slowly!! :)
After confidentally and Successfully making your Iris I moved onto a much more complex one the Kawasaki Rose which I also completed successfully on my first go! Once you do it once it opens everything else up for you (for me anyway) like u can relate to everything u can see hw to make it better or u know when u are wrong how to fix it etc know the ins and outs once u strt its easy
LOL now the song's going to be stuck in your head all day long!! Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your point of view) the DVD version is all "real" music ...
I always get stuck at the same place. In your video at 1:16, when you fold the paper into a diamond shape, I can never get the hang of that. Any tips?
at 1:09 when she folds the top triangle down you have to fold it really good so that when you lift the paper up to make the diamond you should only fold it back untill you reach the crease u made by folding the triangle down, then just press down and fold the left and right sides in if u need more help she put another video, if u still need help message me
watch more and more videos with the same style of fold imitate them the more you do them the easier it'll be its right infront of you how to do it u just gotta unlock the knowledge one day when ur watchin a video and ur copying youll just do it itll come practice. Try and watch very closely at the way people do it you may even discover new ways easier ones to do it
ya thx for the instructions i couldnt tell where you folded, how you folded, and i couldnt even do step 2!!!!!!thx for the help!!!!!do your videos on WHITE PAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you're confused - if it was white paper you couldn't see *anything* :) The whole reason I use a pattern is to at least give you half a chance of seeing what I'm doing. If you have trouble here, start with the cup and the helmet. That will get you started so you can understand this one.
LOL oh I can see it now, folding a perfectly white piece of paper and having people try to follow it. How about I use white paper on a white table background? :) Wearing white gloves?
It's pretty much impossible to get perfect colored origami paper for a video :) Solid colors won't work. Patterns will always get confusing at some point. I was going to do another super-flow version of the crane - since it's so traditional - which might help.
My origami DVD is ready! You get 20 full sets of video instructions for traditional and money origami shapes. I have redone the soundtrack for the DVD and the video quality is much higher than on YouTube. I also provide prompt email support for any folding projects you have. Great for creating holiday presents and decorations!
This was one of the better videos I came across, since I prefer the top view, but I always get stuck in the same spot! After I unfold my kite, I can't seem to open it up and flatten it like that. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong, it must've been a mistake I made at the beginning.
All I'll say is maybe to make the video a bit slower. It needs endless pausing and re-watching. It'd help greatly if you stopped between each fold and showed it better without your hands in the way. Especially on the more complex folds.
This was one of the first videos I made and my main concern was keeping the video short and low in size so dial up people could download it. Now that I have "covered all the basics" I think I will go back and make a long version for cable people
Ok so...The cup and helmet were totally easy and gave me a nice confidence boost. Then I came right here. My crane...Looks like somthing an angry 6 year-old made. But I beleive it's because I re-did it several times on the same crane. I'll keep at it. Thank you Lisa!
That's great that you're making progress! Yes it is VERY hard to re-fold the same piece of paper and change the outcome. Start with a fresh piece of paper each time, it makes it SO much easier.
Yeah...I finally made two that look fine. The only small problem I had was when you say to fold the head and the tail inside out. I just skipped that part but I think that is the step that holds the neck and tail straight...I used tape and a paper clip instead.
:)! omg, thank you!!!!!!!! ugh, those other videos i tried to learn from went way to fast and they spoke really unclearly. thanks for the quality, i finally learned! yaaay.
It sounds like you have a poor attitude, not that the video sucks! Everything is hard when you start - and everything gets easier with practice. Did you start with the cup design? Are you able to do that? Start simple and work your way up to this. I'm sure you'll do well then!
Yes, I own two real ocarinas, as well as two recorders and various other instruments :) I was just teasing you :) I write computer game walkthroughs and that's one of the walkthroughs I wrote.
well I tried it three times. the first two didnt make it into bird shape and my last one turned out to look more like a seagull with enormous wings.. DANG YoU
You're getting closer, though! It just means your folds are close but not quite right. Try it again, with a fresh piece of origami paper, and pay attention to getting the sides of the paper to line up. That usually does it :)
I know a song that played in the backround! it was cherry trees! cherry trees, cherry trees, blossoms dancing in the breeze. I can play it on recorder
That's a very intriguing comment. Most people who emailed me have said the contrast I chose (dark pattern top, white bottom) really helped with seeing it - and the fact that I used a pattern and not just a plain color top really helped too. I'm not sure how I could have chosen a "better" pattern ...? Did you want a grid pattern paper or something like that?
Yes, I have reviewed video games for many years, at BellaOnline :) I love Super Mario Sunshine, that's a great game. Right now we're hooked on Guitar Hero II.
Do that part really slowly. Just pull the bottom point straight up. Then look at the video. Hit the PAUSE button. This is one of the basic folds of origami, and if you try it a few times, you will get it. Patience and practice are the key. Keep doing it, slowly.
Nope, I haven't tried crows or hummingbirds. I would think a hummingbird would be a challenging model! I'll see if I can find some easy ones to post. The issue is I have a 10 minute limit on YouTube so I have to do shapes that can be done in 10 minutes.
BTW - After I posted this video, I did locate a few classical copyright free musical pieces. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston has made history by posting music for all web users to listen to freely and to use in their own projects, copyright free. So I will be using those pieces on future videos :) I love the Gardner museum :)
Yes, you're right! Because I could not find copyright-free music to play in the background, I played some traditional Japanese songs on my recorder to accompany my folding.
well i waisted a piece of irigami paper on this one you go way to fast and cant see what your doing as your hands are in the way :/
