@newlevel25 - The belt knot represents an area of the body that the Japanese call the Tanden. It's three finger width below the navel. The Japanese believe this is the physical, emotional, and spiritual center of the body. In karate, it's considered the power source of our karate techniques.
It bothers me because I am a stickler for tradition but one ofmy students' belt is always falling off.. He ties it well.. I find myself tying it for him so it is super tight and it still falls off.. Just how he is I guess.. I'm going to try this with him maybe it will work. Super cool thanks osu
@osensei2987 - Thanks for the info. That makes sense since I learned it from a Gracie Jiu Jitsu video. I didn't realize this was common in Judo circles. Very Interesting! It's amazing what you can learn from other styles of martial arts.
you're the first person i have seen to tie their belt like me. i hate it when it crosses over at the back. people often say im doing it wrong your way but i think it looks much neater! :)
@TheMan74131 I sleep with mine for a few days and it loosens up from me rolling on it. If you believe your belt is sacred and needs to be bowed to, this won't work for you. If you think it's a piece of cloth that keeps your gi closed, it works fine.
Thats the way Rener Gracie does the super lock

I was looking for this - my satin belt is always coming apart! This method will get a go next week. Thanks for that :)

Where exactly do you tie the belt across the navel area or below it, like right above the waist?

I like it anyway, because perfect!

@mossemer - LOL! Yes, I can't count how many times. I used tightening the belt as an excuse for a breather.
