  • Wow!! I like men in Kilts :)

  • what show was this? looks like it would be awesome to watch

  • There can be only one...

  • Thumbs up if you support Scottish Independence !

  • It's one of the guys from Taggart doing a documentary! Interesting. Actually I think I remember when this was on the telly, but I only got to watch a small amount of it.

  • I imagine those scots who were displaced to america close to the time of the american revolution thouroughly enjoyed ramming thier foot up the asses of the british soldiers during the revolutionary war.

  • @samhobson30 Well some of them did. But some of the others decided to fight for the loyalist cause & some of them were exiled to Canada along with many of the other loyalists. Apparently I have a few ancestors who fought for America's independence, but then came back to Scotland later. Maybe it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Maybe they just felt like going home. I can't ask them, so I'll probably never know.

  • @robsargent4 Interesting, thank you for sharing !

  • @samhobson30 That could be quite the trick since the Scots are technically British. But I get your meaning, and I am sure that if the English play their cards right, they may eventually gain their national independence. :)

  • Okay so after some research on it i see that now the highlanders are nearly extinct in scotland. One of my aunts in america where i live told me once that our ancestors were kicked out of scotland i wonder if it was during the clearances. Too bad there rent more documents on this. Finding genealogy info before the 1800's is nearly impossible.

  • @samhobson30 Nope, the Highlanders, and the Gaelic language, culture, pride and music are making a huge comeback and is getting stronger and back on its feet! I know folks that speak our original language here at all times and their kids go to a Gaelic speaking college. Against all odds, the Highland culture still survives, and the people as well, as DNA testing will show. But you're right, I've been trying to track my heritage further than the 1800's and it's been quite an impossible challenge!

  • @MSfeller That is nice to hear.

  • @samhobson30

Erm no their not! Where did you figure that out?

  • @lampost1 I didnt , just seemed like the other guy was insinuating that since during the clearances they were evicted.

  • ...pity that they weren't very good at fighting or they might have been able to stay in the highlands. Great video.

  • @DamianNixon I thought Highlanders were great fighters ,no? When were they removed from the highlands?

  • @samhobson30 what has King James got to do with the Highland Clearances? Just wonderin.

  • @DamianNixon Ahhhh Nevermind i looked it up on wiki pedia. I wonder though with ancestors like my campbell highland ancestors who still sit in the seat at argyll how much of the highlands were displaced. I guess ill have to looke that up as well. How accurate is wikipedia. What source would be the most accurate.

  • @DamianNixon Well they were fairly good at fighting, but often most of them didn't even have what the technology of the time could provide as far as weapons went. Unless they decided to fight for the Government (which a good few of them did) in which case they'd get the best (well nearly) that could be provided. And of course, unless they fought for the Government, they wouldn't be trained in how to use modern (for the time) firarms of the time anyway, so you can see how they were eventually

  • @DamianNixon subdued. I agree, great video.
