how it cant be the best in history. The show of extreme will by two greatest players of all time, the highest quality any one could imagine. And like in great stories of the past god played his part(the light! may be it would have been different if it continued the other day). And this creepy guy thinks otherwise.......we couldnt care less
This could have been the greatest match purely by the quality of tennis played. But it is great also because there was a story.
It was the world number 1 vs world number 2. Both miles ahead than the rest.
It was the King of Clay vs the King of Grass. Previously they both tried to dethrone each other many times, but without success. 2006 to 2008, they both played each other in the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon.
Then finally the King of Clay dethroned the King of Grass in 2008.
If for example a tennis final reach a tie breaker for every set for a whole 5 sets with a duration of..let's say 6 hours BUT if both players are unpopular then it won't really matter that much would it? Skip was obviously a bigger fan of either Borg or McEnroe than of Federer &/or Nadal. Skip Bayless or even others may have a point about the 1980 wimbledon but in this era, it would be impossible to change the decisions of the fans of the Fed/Nadal rivalry. Correct me on this one.
I saw both finals, and I have to say.....Nadal v Federer and erm.......personalities?? Nadal and Federer are HUGE personalities.....just because there's no abuse or raquet slamming it's not good?? What an insult to the game............
It's obvious the guy on the right is just playing devil's advocate and likes to go against the grain. This match was INFINITELY better than 1980. Much better shot-making, longer rallies, equal amount of tension (apart from, I concede, the amazing 1980 tiebreak), less errors, & built on a bigger rivalry while following from 2yrs of Nadal losing his most coveted tournament to Fed. Personally, I think Aus Open 09 was even better; although less tension/significance, had better shots & rallies
the guy on our right is bullshitting us! The behaviour of certain Americans and other players of the past, would have made this dignified and classy Final a joke! No way those matches could be consider a better event unless people prefer going to the circus!!!!! I prefer TENNIS!
Yes I have seen the MacEnrow vs Borg ~Final on video but I think this was better. I think that this had the class, the tension, the dignity that makes it a better Final. MacEnrow's behaviour did not make a tennis match a dignified event but here Federer and Nadal .... they were THE perfect tennis players! The guy here only cares about having an American in it, but I disagree, I love MacEnrow but his matches were often a little disgraceful!
The match had so much on the line, the same match up as the previous 2 years, the two best players in the world, two of the greatest rivals in tennis history, 2 tiebreaks a 9/7 fading light, rain delays and tennis that frankly beggared belief. No doubt it was the best final ever. I am disgusted that someone should suggest that the admirable manner in which those two conduct themselves on and off court detracted from the match I argue the reverse is true.
It was the best ever coz it was so even and what these guys are capable to do is just amazing. And there were two rain delays, two tiebreaks, 9-7 fifth set and you could see ''what a shot'' at least once every game!
@ GWHowarth88: you should watch the whole clip. He disagrees with ppl who would discredit this match simply cos it had no Americans. The other guy then says he couldn't care less about there being no American.
lol, what a retard american. If there was a guy nowadays on court who behaved like mcenroe, as this guy seems to desire, he wouldn't even be allowed to step on the court, let alone have enough money to pay for all the fines he'd get. Mcenroe is tolerated and has his fans, i guess, but admitting you're a fan of that kind of behaviour is disgusting.
Federer/Roddick was ok but no where near as exciting. Nadal and Federer are the two greatest players in tennis and when they play together it is nothing short of magnificance.
what a f-ing dumbass that guy who didn't feel riveted by this final, he's just one of those pompous asses who are too stubborn to accept the new greatest rivalry in tennis history
Not only a stubborn but a bitter American who can't accept that tennis is not ruled by one of his countrymen nowadays compared to the previous decades (Sampras, Agassi, McEnroe, Connors etc.)
Nadal and Federer have, already, the greatest rivalry in tennis of all time. It wasn't just the tennis on display, it was also the background (as in the history between the two), and also that both were looking to make history. The fact that it went on until night added to it too.
it was up there i remember their final in ........ 2007 i think it was when Federer got his 5th straight that was a good final but the 2008 final was brilliant went on soo long and was getting dark as well lol
i absolutly agree with u. u dont need to show your emotions by screaming or whatever the best way to do it is playing tennis and this is what they did. defenetly the best match ever
this was the greatest match ever, federer and nadal play like unhuman, i cry when federer hit the net it was so emotional i scream so hard, nadal prove that everyithig is possible and federer fight like a lion, i remember this until the last day of my life, for me it was the best match of all sport.
this was the greatest final of all time, the tennis was out of this world, it was technically perfect by both players. Greatest rivalry in sport, this guy clearly doesnt like tennis if said that it didn't get him excited or emotionally charged. Theres nothing wrong with keeping it ice cool on court, if you blow up on court you give th advantage to your opponent. Hes one of these people who always says 'it was better in my day'. he can't take the fact that the final moved tennis to the next level
skip u fucking kiddin me?

Now there's only one way for Federer to beat Rafa: to hope Rafa is worn out or injured. 5 out of his 8 losses have been the case so far.
AND, ALL of their best matches - Rome 06, Wim 08, AO 09 - were won by RAFA.
So no one can ever argue about Rafa being a better player just on his beloved clay:-))))))
