you and your horse is so amazing that i started doing showmanship at halter too. i look this video ever and ever again! So great! It's so amazing!! Sry for ma bad english and greetings from germany :)
Your pattern was GREAT! Fluid and all body cues. Sorry to hear your horse getting sick in the finals. Your horse reminds me of my youth horse and I have spent years trying to find another that I had that kind of relationship with. I appreciate the hard work and dedication it takes to become a top team member with your horse because nobody can train that into a horse. It is reserved for the truly remarkable, and as far as teams go you were. You looked like you were dancing. I love it!!!
WOW! I've just started training my three-year-old showmanship. We haven't put a chain on yet, but when she's ready we will! I hope she's as good as this horse someday!
Thank you guys :) My horse is pretty awesome. That was a hard pattern, I remember. It was years ago.... this was at the world championship show and my horse literally got sick in the finals, like literally was lying down, so obviously I left the arena and I ran him straight up to the vet to see what was happening... so of course I didn't place. But the next year I won! :)
@HorseFanAusten I want to get into showmanship and someone told me that i needed to keep my heels touching and toes out. and does your horse have to take the first step at the walk and at the trot??
HOLY CRAP oh god now im scared for my first showmanship class. . I got a new 8 year old mare quater horse, shes the great granddaughter or something like that of zippo pine bar. So I hope she does good, But were working very hard on this so I can bring home a ribbion
No :( I am on team in gymnastics so unfortunetly i have no time for horses! but once i get to old for gymnastics im going to move onto horses (: I already have my future horses names picked out (:
aw that sucks just hope the horse you get doesn't know its name really well or it will be hard for it to get used to being called something different!
I own a AQH but I ride in eventing. I have a conformation video of her. and if anyone knows anything about QH conformation, could you please critique. (nicely) lol
okay you did AWESOME!!! and my horse never could back-up that fast and when i tryed teacher him to prevet on his hind legs it toke him about one year to figure out how to do that. Then my horse doesnt like to trot because welsesh pony and i dont know why he doesnt like to but at shows iv herd hes perfect. lol what place did you come in ?
can anyone give me any really quick advice about halter classes and showmanship? I have a show day after tomorrow and I've only been able to practice once, all advice welcome dos and donts included.
Your judged on how well you and your horse perform the pattern, if you brake pattern or not, how well your horse and you work together, and how well your horse squares up and stands while the judge is inspecting you or whatever you want to call it. I might have missed some stuff. Oh and I got 7th place in a class of 40 people.
You had a killerrrr pattern. Your back was amazing. Oh and to the chick below me that says you won't place if you don't have a fake tail really should learn something. I know a few people that have placed at congress and world that don't use fake tails because they have such a nice tail. I use them because to me my horse needs one.
IF YOU DONT HAVE A FAKE TAIL , YOU WONT PLACE. EXSPECIALLY AT THE WORLD!! SO YEAH YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO HAVE A FAKE TAIL. great video, OH AND IF YOU WANT YOUR HORSE TO SET UP LIKE THAT PRACTICE!!! GO OUT AND PRACTICE THAT FOR 10 MINUTES A DAY !! oh and pretty horse (:
Awesome vid, you're pattern was near flawless! I see a lot of subtleties that gained you lots of plus's with the judge! How did you do if you don't mind me asking? It looked to be a fairly complex pattern... Only thing I will comment on is that your cross overs looked a little hurried, and when you stopped from the trot, you looked a little too abrupt. Just my opinion of course, I still think you did excellent. :0)
Super pattern! It was a pleasure to watch you and your horse work.
Someone commented about Quarter Horses always having fake tails at shows and I have to disagree. Those horses who are properly maintained nutritionally will grow a thick, healthy tail.
((this comment implies nothing on the video owner.))
i'm in my first and only year of 4-H cause i'm a senior in high school and i need to start training for showmanship cause me and my 18h oldenburg have never done it before, but i have no idea how to start! how did you start training for pivot on the hind leg and on the fore leg? i think those seem to be the hardest
When you're walking away from the judge, look back at him. I noticed you did when you were doing your last turn on the haunches, but do it when you're walking away, too.
Also, you're toes should be angled more toward your horses feet.
But that was an incredible pattern, you both looked great, congrats, it was amazing :)
I'm hoping to go next year... I'll try Congress first though. I've been placing pretty well in Indiana Novice 13&under. So we'll see!
--
The only thing I saw wrong with the pattern though was that his first stop wasn't as clean as the rest. But very nice pattern. You should still have placed!
yes many horses know what is next basedon what their handlers body language is, they just know after doing it over and over again what every little detail means. its pretty cool
Beautiful, beautiful pattern. Very well done. Nothing more amazing than a great showmanship pattern. =] Good job. Best of luck to this pair in the future.
i liked your pattern, it was well done, with pretty much all the elements perfected. the only thing i would say, is your free hand tended to pop upwards at times..but thats just a matter of reminding yourself about it. and your horse has the cutest face.
wow! no wonder they won in 2002! the back-up was awesome and it was all very precise. (i have to put the chain in front of my horse's nose so she listens to me...) i liked her clothes, too :)
Really nice job. Just wish more of these kids would learn to coordinate their own steps to the horse's front leg's steps. Makes a much cleaner picture for the judge when they walk/jog together.
That was an excellent pattern! Very nice and that horse backs up like a dream! I bet the only thing they were marked down for would be the trot at the VERY end!
She won the Showmanship in 2002. This is her prelims from the previous year. She made it to the finals but during them, her horse became very sick so she pulled herself from the class and got him up to the vet right away (ps. the horse is fine). So obviously, she didn't place that year.
wow good pattern!
