The simple reason government spending fails to end recessions is that Congress does not have a vault of money waiting to be distributed. Every dollar Congress “injects” into the economy must first be taxed or borrowed out of the economy. No new income, and therefore no new demand, is created. They are merely redistributed from one group of people to another. Congress cannot create new purchasing power out of thin air.

If growing the economy were as simple as expanding government spending and deficits, then Italy, France, and Germany would be the global economic kings. A month ago they said 30k jobs had been created or saved now its 640k? It sounds like a bunch of the typical misinformation this executive branch has been spewing since it took control. When some of the numbers were investigated they found them to be way off. Places reporting over 4k jobs created or saved only had like 800 as the real number. The white house has admitted the numbers are way off but they haven't changed the numbers.

its nearly impossible to calculate those numbers... and joe biden in june admitted the stimulus didn't work as intended (wasn't designed to as it was sold to the public) and now here's the white house pulling these numbers, literally, out of their ass. between 2004 and 2007, at least 6 million jobs were added to the work force. all of those jobs are gone with our 9.8% unemployment, we, or obama, if he cared, should be creating 640,000 jobs per month! it's from gov't spending and cash 4 clunkers

When the DOW was down around 6,500 there were many people who thought we were headed for a Depression with the DOW going below 3,000.

Once it looked like we would have a stimulus, I made 12 bets with 10 people.

I have thus far won 10 of the 12 bets.

If the DOW is above 3,500 at year's end I will collect on the last two.

No doubt the stimulus helped but it's difficult to gauge exactly where we would be without it....maybe we would have continued to spiral on down into a depression.

A fair and good use of 780 billion stimulus would have been, If u had given a one time payment of 25-30 thousand dollars to each employee who lost his/her job. Coz if u had done that, at least 80% of those who receive a 30,000 grant would have start their own business and voila, employment situation solved!
