I have one of these pedals that I used as a paperweight for a long time. Then one day, I plugged it in. It's a pretty good sounding little overdrive! Obviously, an LED is used for clipping as you can see it lighting up thru the plastic case. As a budget overdrive, this is an excellent choice. Only caveat is that it is so ridiculously fragile, and the switch is REALLY flimsy.
