yes, the latest (i'd say after 1997) works require much play runs before you may (or not) notice the internal beauty of complex passages and patterns.
I just started listening to Autechre. Got all their albums except Tri Repetae.
I'm really digging it, still not got through it all though.
Other stuff like this hmm. Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works 1 & 2. The latter is more ambient and drawn out than this, but very similar in dark, hypnotic yet somehow comforting melodies. I just want to mention onvery overlooked Aphex Twin track which is actually a remix. It's called Falling Free by Curve, Aphex Twin remix. Enjoy.
Anyone know if there is more music like the early Autechre out there?
Amber and Tri Repetae are some of my favorite records, and they have a very distinct style that is melodious without being commercial, reminds me of classical music.
The Black Dog's "Spanners" is good. It's not as cosistantly moody as the albums you've mentionion though. And...you've probably heard it. New stuff, I dunno. It's amazing to think this is 16 yeras old - early 90's was amazing for music. It's shame Auctreche moved away from the sound I think they said was "crude" "childish," something like that.
@tripplethrendo woah... ok I don't really remember leaving that comment, and not sure really what I meant by it.
Anyway, after a year or so of listening to autechre... they're one of my favourite artists. They really are the pioneers in their field. Oversteps = great successss!
The best video match-up on youtube!!

All their first 5 ,6 albums are perfect! Incunabula, Amber, Chiastic Slide....
After LP7 things started to go downhill. Anyway, they're still one of my favorite bands!

only started listening to autechre really, but i'd say AFX's analogue bubblebath's are all similar, specially Anal-bath 3 ^^

ice cold man. Love those retro tech samples

Autectre don't use samples. They produce 'samples' for them themselves, they're a bit obsessive about the act of creation.

I was thinking about the visuals but I'm glad they produce the audio themselves
