Personally i do not indulge myself in Bach-Busoni pieces neither did i want to play it on the piano. I got to admit however, this one recording had just changed my view.
I encountered this song first watching Solaris and I immediately knew it was Bach. Who else can write music so deeply expressive, subtle, and dynamic?
It's so easy to do "too much" with this little gem of a piece, and cross the line from sentiment to sentimentality. Lipatti never comes close to crossing that line.
I believe there is a german word for it " seufzen " or something.
I believe that at the time I mean the 1600s , the Jesus Christ business had not been developed and perfected yet.....people were truly moved. Well that is what this piece breathes, long before TV preachermen. But DL breathes this emoting into his performance. Quite a Godly person probably.
Immenso bach!|!!! Iddio ci parla tramite lui..... Universo di voci, profondità abissale, perfezione della forma... Poesia e rigore, animo e cuore.... Lipatti al solito : sublime pianista. Mi piace monltissimo pure l'esecuzione di Kempff..
When will mankind be able to find another piano genius like Dinu?? We hope as soon as possible even if it'll be very difficult!!! Dinu we miss so much!!!

The best recording that there is to this day. As much as I love Horowitz, Sokolov, Perahia.

Bach is saying here something like : " O god please don´t let me suffer so I pray..." !!
To put that into music isn´t that easy.

1. Ich ruf zu dir, HERR JESU CHRIST, ich bitt, erhör mein Klagen;
verleih mir Gnad zu dieser Frist, laß mich doch nicht verzagen.
Den rechten Glauben, Herr, ich mein, den wollest du mir geben,
dir zu leben, meim Nächsten nütz zu sein,
dein Wort zu halten eben.

francescaemc2 my uncle used to come around when I was a kid at Christmas and play " Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben " on our upright Bechstein.
Pretty unforgettable, this was about 60 years ago. Busoni and Lipatti really knew how to lay those prayers on us.......

Listen to this and then the horowitz version, and witness the truly enormous gulf between the two.

Lipatti non si può commentare: si può solo adorare e venerare.

Absolutely fabulous. This wonderful musician understands the serinity of this work so well. It just flows so naturally in his hands.
Many thanks for all your fine work marcburu, it's just a shame he isn't appreciated nearly as much as he deserves.

Stupendo! Grazie. Non l'avevo mai sentito. Mio nonno era compositore di opera lirica. Egli aveva un pianoforte Beckstein come questo.
Che nostalgia!

I love the way the melodic and harmonic movement give the false sense of an uneven number of bars - I had to count it to convince myself it was even.
