Great stuff, Steve! I forwarded the IKFF email to my Crossfit instructors-we can always use better shoulder mobility, and this exercise works pretty quickly to loosen up the shoulder joint. THANKS!
This is a traditional Malaysian Candle Dance move.
It was made famous in the west by Richard Feynman who cited it as an example of how knots require a 720 degree rotation for identity (contrary to the normal 360 that we think of as a no-op).
@themole222 yeah id imagine so. Does your shoulder hurt anymore than it did before the dislocation? usually dislocations arent too bad, my friend dislocated his shoulder in a trampoline accident and again at rugby and he doesnt have any trouble at all with it.
Thanks for posting this =D! Out of all the Tea cup videos of Ba Gua Zhang, yours is the best for illustration purposes. This greatly helps =D. This can also be done w/ different variations like: both hands at the same time, almost simultaneously (kinda like one hand is behind a bit before the other), &/or doing the opposites (where one hand does the tea cup going outside, while the other hand is doing the tea cup going inside, simultaneously) =3. Faved =D!
Any suggestions on progressing this? I am having a tough time keeping my palm up. Do you just do the best you can over and over and trust that eventually you'll be able to do it with a tea cup?
Great exercise, very effective!! thank you for posting this!

you could also go the other way. instead of starting inward, you could begin moving outward. nice work.
