I went through a period of time as a teenager and young adult questioning the Bible and the teachings of the Catholic Church, but I grew in faith over the years. The Bible can be difficult to believe if you read it literally but keep in mind that the English version has been through many translations, so the wording is not always what it seems.
Well, I don't happen to read Hebrew, Greek, or Latin, but I did read the entire English version of the bible the summer before I started college when I was 18. I think I learned quite a bit about it despite any translation errors, and I'm now 47 and if anything an even stronger atheist. If there are any controversial passages that may mean something totally different in their original language (whatever that was), please let me know. You might want to start with Leviticus...

Also, the Bible does not support Sola Fidai (sp?), that faith alone will save you. It takes faith and "works". Martin Luther added the "alone" word and confused generations of Protestants. Yes, that sure was a dark era in our church. First, 600 years ago, their was a shortage of matches, barbecue sauce and marshmallows. Then nowadays, it is getting increasingly difficult to get a fire permit to burn heretics in the town square. You need to know that the fire marshals are being increasingly heretic protestants. And for some odd reasons they get really pissed off when we go at the office to fill an application for a fire permit.

As I was in my 20s, developing my own tastes in art, film, and music, I was hanging with a crowd who thought Mel Brooks was a comic genius. I didn't see it. I thought Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, etc. were puerile attempts best by a mogul whose self-indulgent ego in this industr is exceeded (perhaps) only by Tarantino. However, when I re-watch these clips now, bearing in mind the era, I begin to see the quality of Brooks's satire. This is great stuff! They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Yet Christ said, more then once, during the last supper: Do this in memory of me. As a Catholic, that is exactly what we do in the mass. I went through a period of time as a teenager and young adult questioning the Bible and the teachings of the Catholic Church, but I grew in faith over the years. The Bible can be difficult to believe if you read it literally but keep in mind that the English version has been through many translations, so the wording is not always what it seems.

A little known fact about this tragedy was that 98% of the Jewish/Muslim captives of the Spanish Inquisition got away nice and safe. Only a meager 2% were burned, much to the Pope's dismay. The others packed their bags and left, a choice the Inquisition gave them.
Plus, the Pope did try to stop the injustices, since the Spanish told him the inquisition was for heretics, all of whom are supposed to be Catholic.
But the Spanish monarchy was too strong that they suppressed the Pope's orders.

You have to remember that much of our culture comes from the Greco-Roman culture that Constantine grew up on. Of course that's going to inluence things like Yeshuas birthday. Most people are aware that Dec 25 is not Jesus' birthday, we just like the holiday. I know some christians who wont celebrate Xmas based on this fact. Yeshua and Jesus are the same person. No, he just made it legal. He probably did replace some traditions to make it 'suitable for public consumption' because, as you probably know, Jews were never very popular. I wasn't categorizing them by race, I was categorizing them by ideals. But the Muslim radicals did force the Crusades. At first the Christians losing to the Muslims just accepted their losses as part of God's will, but when the radical Muslims kicked out the tolerant Muslims out of the Holy Land, started forcing down Islam upon the throats of the Christians, who were customers of the previous Muslim rulers, the Greek Emperor and the Pope saw it as an offense against Jesus and there it began.

I'm going to tell you a fact that was crucial during the Crusades.
THEY ALWAYS LOSE. 7 OUT OF 10 TIMES. Most of the time they didn't slaughter Muslim civilians save for the first Crusade, since they NEEDED Muslim allies. In fact, the Pope reached out to Muslim Mongols and got them to ally with the Crusaders, since the Crusaders only wanted Palestine, as opposed to the Moslem warlords who want all of the Middle East. Muslim infighting was the key reason the Crusades succeeded in the first place.

you distort history in so many ways, on so many levels any student who doesnt bother to research on Encyclopedia Britannica (not Wikipedia, unreliable "source") and does assignments or test thru what you said, will get a failing grade.
key was in fighting? tell that to a historian at Library of Congress. tell that to Near East archaeologist leading an excavation in Ashkelon, Antioch or relevant European castles and Near East crusader castles. you keep simplifying and distorting complex history.

Really? Perhaps you've been brainwashed too many times to even look deep into the complex history of Medieval Europe. You generalize everything as Christians=bad, Muslims=good. In truth both sides had both good and bad guys, the difference is that some are religious in a selfless let's help the poor kind of way, and the fanatic religious who in reality only watched out for their own asses. There are people of both alignments within Christian and muslim circles up to this day.

I do not generalize Muslims either. I have many Muslim friends. In fact, I kinda feel sympathy for them now, since they rot away in dirt poor countries while a large fraction of the world's wealth is eaten up by the secular post-Christian west. Whenever they look at America or Europe, they see drugs, booze, and sex, and no wonder why they take up arms; they see the threat to their livehood, their way of life. They'd sooner ttalk to Franciscans rather than talk to the Secular west.

you demonize somebody, if not Muslims then secular Liberals. most Arabs and Persians are varying degrees of secular, not passionate Muslims. most arent hateful or resentful against "secular West" or Liberals because Arabs are intellectual and secular too. they do have a problem with ignorance of Far Right Conservative Christians. they hate Bush family and Reagans except Ron Reagan jr who is popular in Arab countries because he's Liberal and reasonable. i have tons of Arab friends. all secular.

Most Muslims probably see Jews as simply another people, but radical Jihadists and Middle Eastern (Anti-Israeli) politicians such as Iran's president are well.......you should know it already.
