@mex55 The numbers aren't quite right. The SS 396 is a big block, the 375 horse is tagged the L-78, solid lifters and a 780 cfm Holley from the factory. The other two 396 motors were rated at 350 or 325.

@TheOneMetallica1 what are you talking about? 427 where rare in camaros they used 396's for there high power engine either a 350 horse or a 375 horse 396 was the power house of the camaro ss the 427 with 435 horse was a dealer only option in 69 whitch made them a non matching number car and the cost of the 427 option was so high that most people couldnt afford it and not every dealer had this option so needless to say it was hard to get even if you wanted it so they wernt real at all jus sayin

Up until that point yes dealers like Yenko, Nicky, Dana, and Baldwin Motion installed the 427 using ss 396 cars. 435hp in a 4spd and 425 in an auto. There were 822 4spds and 193 autos made in 69. Then COPO 9560 The ZL1 aluminum block 427 only 69 were sold msrp $7200

I think the big three tried to put their best car out there because they knew somewhere in 70, 71, or 72, the government was going to come in and start dictating how these cars can be built. I think emission laws more than anything killed the muscle car. Just look at horsepower levels starting at 68-69 and on. All of the most powerful cars lost like 100HP + after 1970. Only now, like 40 years later, are the horsepower numbers finally coming back.
